Sizing Notes

For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

La Sportiva Magic

I have both the standard and GTX versions of the Akyra II and have put around 100 miles on each pair. The biggest complaint about Sportiva is the fit, I went with what they recommended for me and got a half size more than my normal hiker and good fit. Comfort is relative to a person’s feet and these work for my feet. I’m not sure what alien technology La Sportiva uses to make these out-soles because they grip! This new FriXion Red is great for all conditions I’ve put it up against. These things had no problem with rock (wet), skree, river crossings, snow, and had no problems doing steep up/down hill on ice. The thing that really stands out is I’ve worn both pairs against my trail nemesis, MUD. Until these shoes I had never made it through long stretches of mud unassisted without some type of slipping and usually ending up on my bottom or worse. These shoes run through it with no issues gripping as if they are some type of mud spikes. Listen I really like the performance of these shoes, I’ve taken them on class 3 and very low class 4 scrambling and they held up. The durability of these things seem to be going strong as both pairs after many miles of hiking and scrambling they’re still structurally solid. As I said above, I have the standard and GTX shoes and love both. I will be posting the same review for both as many places as I can as I am excited for others to give them a try and see if they’re a good fit for them as well. La Sportiva, thanks for this gem. Thank you REI for being the first to put these on sell.

Excellent for the rocks

Second pair from la sportiva. Had the Akasha II’s prior to these and both are wonderful. I hike primarily in Red Rock in Nevada which is almost entirely scrambling, and these.are fantastic.

AWESOME!

I recently purchased the La Sportiva Akyra 2 trail shoes, and I must say, my experience has been nothing short of awesome! I took them out for a run on the mountains, and they truly exceeded my expectations. First and foremost, the traction on these shoes is incredible. Whether I was navigating steep inclines or rocky paths, the grip provided by the outsole gave me the confidence to tackle challenging terrain without worrying about slipping. I felt secure every step of the way, which is crucial when you're out in nature. Another standout feature of the Akyra 2 is the protection it offers. The shoes performed exceptionally well on sections of the trail with a lot of rocks and uneven surfaces. The toe cap and overall construction provided ample protection, allowing me to focus on my run rather than on potential hazards underfoot. I appreciated how well the shoes absorbed impact, making it a comfortable experience even on the most rugged trails. Overall, my experience with the La Sportiva Akyra 2 trail shoes has been incredible. They combine excellent traction and protection, making them ideal for mountain running. I highly recommend these shoes to anyone looking for a reliable and high-performing trail running option. They have certainly enhanced my adventures on the trails!

Thin and short tongue and sides digging into ankle

I have a narrow, low volume foot with high arch. On the positive side, construction looks solid and great sole grip. A plus is this shoe will fit an aggressive orthotic insert. I wear a size 13 on most of these type of shoes and the length was just right. Sportiva's normally fit me well because I have a narrow foot. This shoe fit fit me okay but was not the snug fit I normally expect. So, it would probably fit someone with a normal width foot. I wanted to snug the fit down a bit more so I like the idea of the runners loops on the shoe. However, when I tried to tie it that way, I did not like the flimsy, low volume tongue that some of the mfgs are putting on some shoes. The shoe strings dig into the top of the foot with this style tongue and I do not believe this type of tongue belongs on what is supposed to be a hiking shoe. So, that is the first fault I found and I believe that is a big one. The only other fault I found is that for me, only, due to my low volume foot, the sides of the shoe come up too far and rub against my ankle bone. Since I hike over uneven terrain, that would dig into my ankle bone and I would not be able to hike over the rough terrain this shoe is meant for. My shoe would often be at an angle, constantly digging into my ankle bone. But, this may not be an issue for someone with a different type of foot.
