Excellent jacket for the right use

Excellent jacket for the right use. Really happy with my purchase, this jacket sits halfway in between a hardshell and most soft shells, it's beefy has lots of pockets (though I would like an internal chest pocket), an awesome collar and hood but it is heavier than what you normally think of as a softshell but also more windproof. Took it backcountry skiing and it was great for that, haven't tested it in a true downpour yet. Would be good in an alpine setting where you're concerned with abrasion. Fit is pretty typical MH favors tall and skinny (which I love) long sleeves. Glad to see colors going back to the woodsy colors.

Great coat, slim fit

It’s a very cool jacket. Feels like durable material, with nice stretch. Pockets are good, hood is good. Adjustments are all great. If I have any complaint it is that it’s too slim fitting. I’m a slim guy and I find it too slim to layer underneath. You could size up but the sleeves might be too long then.

Slim fit, great material

Great jacket, fits on the slimmer side but with plenty of stretch- size up if you want a but more room to layer or move around. Material feels better than a traditional soft shell, has held up very well in rain and snow. Sits a little longer in the back.

hat 's fine with me

Exactly what I want, the clothes are good and the color is okay. I hope to come up with a soft shell and velvet style, although the official website has thicker styles, I hope to come up with a GORE soft shell and velvet style

Versatile, Durable and Do it All Softshell

Tough, versatile backcountry softshell jacket. I wanted a do-it-all softshell jacket that I could use for backpacking, climbing, skiing, travel, and general around-town usage. This one fit the bill perfectly. The Chockstone is a burlier material than most of my other softshell jackets. It can handle snags and wipeouts. I like the nylon material versus the polyester; it is more durable and doesn't create static when slipped on and off. It gives it a non-shiny, refined look as well. More like a burly cotton canvas rather than a sheenful plastic bag. I love all the pockets, especially the two chest Napoleon pockets. They are large enough for a passport or phone and can accommodate more than they seem. The Fit is slimmer and taller. I am 5'10", 210 lbs, 42" chest and 36" waist, the XL is a tad large on me. I tried the Large, but it was just a bit snug around the chest and waist. The rear of the jacket extends down to my but since I have a shorter 17.5-inch torso. The ideal fit for an XL would probably be someone an inch taller and a bit bigger. I am ok with the slightly larger fit as I can layer fleece under it for winter use. Quality is top-notch, and I am happy with the Army Green color; I have even used it for small game hunting. However, it's not for all pursuits. For high-intensity, aerobic activities, I would not recommend it, it's just a bit too heavy and thick to allow for intense breathability.

Phenomenal softshell!

I purchased this jacket a few months back as a winter mountaineering layering piece. It has since become much more than that. This jacket is super stretchy, moves with you in every way you want and it's light weight. It packs into it's own pocket, which I rarely use since I'm always wearing it. The low profile hood fits under a helmet nicely. The water resistance is unbelievable, so much so, that I wore it in the shower to fully test it. The water just beads off. The 2 hand warmer pockets are easily accessible while wearing a harness. And still accessible when wearing a pack. (Not as much as just a harness.) The chest pocket is cavernous. It runs from the top of the jacket down to almost the bottom. Easily holds map, compass, gps, phone, teddy bear, or whatever you like to take on your climb/hike. The single pull hem adjustment is awesome for a quick fit. I'm 5' 11" and weigh in at 180lbs give or take a few. I ordered a medium first. It was tight in the chest with no room for layering. Ended up with the large. Just baggy enough for a base layer and microchill fleece. Sleeves are slightly long, but that's due to the large sizing. I've had this jacket beyond its limits I believe. It's only somewhat wind resistant, so I've tested at a variety of altitudes. 13,700' being the highest yet. It wasn't until the winds were gusting over 50mph, (wind chill was around -17°F) that I had to add another layer over the Chockstone. And as long as the snow isn't blizzard like conditions you'll stay dry. (The Colorado mountains never disappoint in the winter.) This is now my go to jacket. Taking the dog out, grocery store, nightlife, etc. It is a super comfy and sharp looking jacket. (MHW gear always makes you look cool.) Its one of my favorite purchases yet. I definitely recommend. If you use this jacket for what it was designed, you will not be disappointed. If you feel you need a heavier alpine climbing jacket, check out the mixaction jacket. It's just as excellent with a little more burliness.
