Smartwool  Classic All-Season Merino Quarter-Zip Base Layer Top - Men's

I bought this top for me because I always like how they look on my husband. He has many but I don't think any are the all-season merino blend like this one. I bought one last year and knew from experience how wonderful this material is year-round. I just throw it into my backpack or tote and keep it there because I like to be able to pull it out especially in the warm weather when everyone and everywhere air conditioners are running, even in the car. It doesn't take up a lot of room and does not weigh too much. It has saved me so many times, not to mention how many times I've saved my husband and friends! This year I bought two more different colors, and this brand is even better looking, the collar stands out, really pops!

​I took the Smartwool Men's Classic All-Season 1/4 Zip on a 6-week trip to New Zealand, and it was easily my MVP. ​New Zealand's weather is famously unpredictable, but this shirt handled it all. It's incredibly lightweight, allowing me to pack less while providing the perfect amount of warmth when the temp dropped. ​The best part? The odor resistance. Even after wearing it multiple times in warmer weather, it never smelled. It dries lightning-fast and has a great athletic fit that hugs the body without being restrictive. First purchased this for the Moab240 Ultra. It was perfect. From there I wore it to Africa for my climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After that I took it to the Grand Canyon for the Rim2Rim2Rim. Once again excellent. It showed its true muscle when I wore it as my base layer during the Iditarod Trail Invitational. I brought two other 1/4 zip base layer brands with me and never used them once. When I was pushing the pace the sweat dried quickly, when I was in my trekking at -50 degrees it kept me warm and was the perfect base layer. After this experience on the Iditarod Trail I only will be going with Smartwool gear.

Love this quarter zip in the 150 gram weights for winter running in Minnesota to complement my other 250gram weight zips. Depending on the outer shell I use and the temperature I vary them up. I appreciate the extra structure to this 1/4 zip. XXL fits true to size. Zipper is nice for thermal regulation so you can start off cold with the zip up and then unzip as you get to temperature. Find the Nylon blend makes it feel a bit smoother against the skin than the 100% merino although both are fine. Have also used this as a undershirt to provide adjustable thermal regulation as well. Nice to wear as a layer lounging around the house as it isnt too hot like the 100% 250g merino 1/4 zips.

This is a stylish, thin, high quality merino wool base layer that can double over a t shirt to take the chill out of a summer evening. It is highly permeable so good for workouts and under other layers when is get colder.

Great concept. I wish I liked it better. Merino wool is a little scratchy. The inside of the zipper head is cold against my skin. I can't wear this without a base layer and it's supposed to be a base layer. Not very warm - seems like the air goes right through it even when there is no breeze, but I did want something breathable so maybe I need a thicker garment. I'm 5'11"", bought medium, I have long arms and the sleeve length is good. It was very helpful seeing what it looked like on the male model and to know his dimensions.

I have many Patagonia Capaline zip tops in various weights but really wanted to try out the Smartwool for a light weight under layer for my cool weather bike rides. In addition to some degree the Capaline can get scratchy and if you have sensitive skin (I know..I'm a delicate flower) the synthetic fabrics can be a little irritating. Got the Smartwool on Member's Days sale and really like the fabric, fit and sleeve length. I've worn it a few times both with a shell and just as a stand alone top and it's super comfy. Only issue is that in order to wash it as per the directions it's recommended to use Woolite or similar with cold water. I don't have a ton of stuff that needs special washing and while it's a little inconvenient that's the cost of the wool fabric.

I purchased the Sage color. When I received the shirt, I tried it on and immediately ordered three more. I absolutely love the shirts. For size comparison, I am 6'4"", 200#, 38""/40"" waist and 37"" sleeve length. Size 2XL fits me perfectly. I dress comfortable, always, and this shirt is perfect for my lifestyle. I will order more if new colors are available. I have been wearing Smartwool for over ten years and have never returned any garment for an issue. They manufacture quality merino wool clothing.

I love the feel and weight of the All-Season base layer. I purchased a couple more after my original went threadbare after 3 years of almost daily use in the fall/winter/spring. I wear it for ski touring and resort skiing, and daily wear. Buy two and alternate so you'll only need to wash them about once a week. I'm 6' 165lb. and Size Large fits great after it shrinks a little with the first wash/dry. I wish they would make a 1/4 Zip Hoody and add sneaky thumb holes. I would definitely buy a couple!
