Stretchy and Warm
I'm a climber on the Front Range of Colorado and I need gear that can keep up with rapidly changing weather conditions. I'm a medium and this puffy fits true to size with a bit of room for layering. They added a bottom zipper to this most recent version of the Stretchdown Hoody, which is a great improvement that allows access to a belay device on cold mornings at the crag. The 700 fill is nice and warm without being suffocating, and the big puffy hood fits over a helmet. The Stretchdown material allows full range of motion with no constriction around the underarms when you reach across your body. Good for belaying, camping, walking your dog, whatever!
Stains easily, but fixable
I bought this jacket in the olive color. I too find that it stains incredibly easy and even on places that nothing spills on which I don't understand. Oil from my neck and face stains the collar as well. I have found however, that Dawn dish soap works pretty well. I just squirt a little to cover the spots, let it sit for bit and then put it in the wash on cool or cold with a little tide. (by the way, this works on any clothing that you spill grease or oil on). Comes clean every time. It is a pain in the butt to keep doing this, however I love the fit of the jacket (I am apple shape and I appreciate it not being so form fitting) and it's very light and still warm. Perfect for New England winter.
Disappointing.
I purchased this after my last Stretchdown had to be warrantied. The pattern on the jacket makes it hard to wash without the down settling at the bottom of the sleeves. My main issue with this version of the jacket is it's reallllyy thin compared to the last one I owned. I gave it a few days to fluff up after shipping, but it's still about the weight of the Stretchdown Light that I purchased at the same time. The fabric also appears to be more course. I'm keeping it because I needed to buy something with the warranty credit, but I wouldn't purchase again.
Must have, great for athletic outdoorsy activities
I am rock climber and mountaineer. I used this Womens Stretch Down Hoody for my recent hikes and climbs in Canyons of Utah. Since the days are short post fall, we need good warmth while backpacking, belaying and climbing. It provides real good insulation, thanks for 700 fill. It's slightly longer over the waist which is what I always needed from my puffy jacket. I am usually an S and this S fit is great. Can be used in addition with fleece or down vest if going for winter camping or adventure activities in colder temperatures. Best part is the design which considers all kinds of motion that we do in outdoor activities. This is a must take if you are going to climb or belay in chilly weather. It is durable, packability is great and hood is the best part.
My favorite down jacket
This is a fantastic active down jacket whether you're out climbing or just running errands around town. It's got all the features you want- fleece lined pockets, stretchy fabric, elastic cuffed wrists, double zippers; plus it's incredibly cozy. I love wearing it on cold mornings when I'm out guiding in the desert. I am in-between medium and large in MHW clothes so I got a large so it would be nice and roomy for layers, though I don't often need very many because it's so warm! Highly recommend this jacket!
So durable!
I got this for climbing in the fall/winter and the durability exceeds my expectations. I boulder in it and haven't ripped it once. It can brush against pokey trees and branches, and still not a rip in sight. Impressed. It's also super stretchy so even with a couple of layers underneath, I still do'nt feel restricted.
Perfect jacket
This jacket is the best, I used it in Colorado on a snow snowshoe adventure in Rocky Mountain Park in February. Kept me dry and warm against negative temps. Light weight and warm, better then bulky puffy jacket. The sizing is accurate.
