This is my first waterproof pair. I bought it based on excellent experiences with two earlier pairs of non-waterproof Sawtooth hikers. I am finding the waterproof a little heavier in feel but comfortable as I break them in. They did very well on a recent hike at Mary's Rock in the Shenandoah with no problems on muddy and wet stretches.
I needed a replacement for my old Keen, wide toe, sneakers that were delaminating. These looked like a good substitute. I ordered them in a size 8.5, which is typically on the large size for me. My foot size is slightly over an 8. 8.25 would be perfect but 8 is too tight. When I received these Oboz I could barely get them on. They were so narrow that, once my foot had wriggled into the shoe, there was barely enough lace to tie them up. I returned them in person at an REI store. I was told that this is a common occurrence with Oboz shoes. The store did not have an 8.5. Rather than take a chance on a second order I took the refund. I didn't want a heavy weight waffle stomper, mud collector "hiking" shoe in the first place. Just a walk-about sneaker for every day. Is that too much to ask?
I bought this pair of shoes because my older pair of Oboz (bought several years ago) needed a rest. I still use the older pair for yard work, etc.
Just what we've come to expect from Oboz, wearable, comfortable, and great fit right out of the box. They look great, was able to do a small 3 mile hike after just putting them on for the first time. Waterproof is a plus and seems to be up to Oboz standards and what we expect. They cleaned up easily and nicely. They were dry inside and the outside seemed to dry rather quickly. This is my 4th pair of Oboz, and I am not disappointed.
The shoe is excellent, except that it is small in the toe box. I am a medium, and I had to take out the shoe liner for it to fit me properly. The shoe is also too narrow in the heal, and this affects the stability of the walk/hike.
Style-wise, these clunky kicks look like orthopedic shoes from the 1980's. Fit-wise, they feel great and are super comfortable. I guess I'll just have to look like a dork on the trail
They're just like my last pair of Oboz. They wear for ever. I use thrm for hiking in the Cascades, locally and work. Comfortable and waterproof. Why would I buy anything else.
Good fit and well made. No break-in miles required. The geometry of the foot bed felt odd compared to what I was replacing but the first hike sold me.
The shoes is good overall. However, the soles aren’t as gripping as vibram soles.
I liked the non-waterproof ones so much, I bought the waterproof version.
