Love the neck coverage
I purchased three FreeFly bamboo tops without the hoods, then a couple more with the hoods. I wish I had bought all with the hoods because it provides great neck coverage. Just got back from a trip to Big Bend National Park and it was over 105-106 degrees in the afternoons. The shirts kept me protected the whole time. I love these shirts because of the fabric content. I have tried sun protection shirts made of polyester, and I cannot wear them. They are always heavier and make me sweat more. I hope that the SPF factor stays in the shirts even with multiple washings.
One recommended for short people
Hood is laughingly short. I ordered up to a medium for extra roominess, I usually wear a small. This medium is extra wide and short. It comes just past my waist and the sleeves are just to my wrist, so only okay if I don't use the thumbholes. Overall it doesn't feel like a comfortable length, it feels short. It's a good 1.5 inches wider than the similar NRS shirt in medium. The worst is the hood...if I put on the hood, it pulls the shoulder of the shirt up by almost 2 inches! It is super awkward and uncomfortable because then I can't even move my neck or shoulders comfortably. Compared to the NRS medium sun shirt, this one has the hood more than 2 inches shorter. I do like that the fabric is natural bamboo, it's very thin and lightweight. And the raglan sleeves are actually comfortable and help the shirt fit better in the torso even though it's wide on me. I only recommend this for short people, and if you don't need to use the hood or the thumbholes.
So comfy!
Love this top! This makes my fourth one!
Stains Easily
I love this hoodie - it keeps me cool, wicks sweat, and provides great sun protection. However, I’ve only worn it twice, once to attend an outdoor event and the second time on a hike in the mountains. After this 2nd hike, it has multiple stains from the dust/dirt, and looks like some pollen. I have many other brands of UV/bamboo clothing in many different colors that I’ve worn on all sorts of outdoor activities where they’ve gotten very dirty and I’ve never had a problem getting them clean. This is the first time I’ve seen a garment made for outdoor activities stain so easily. I’m very disappointed bc I really thought I’d found a new brand to love...
My dream shirt
When I first saw this in the ad I fell in love with it! The price felt out of my reach so I watched it for weeks. Eventually I was afraid it would sell out! Now that it’s here, I have worn it several times in the past week. Soft, comfortable, and this blue pattern is heavenly. I bought it to wear casually out and about, but yesterday I realized one of the shades matches pajama bottom lounge pants that I have, and I am looking forward to wearing it 24 hours one day this weekend! Has a free flowing easy fit. On my 5 foot frame, it is long enough to definitely cover my hips and seat. The long sleeves easily push up or fold back and stay that way pretty well.
Almost perfect
I use these for fly fishing. I'm 5'2" and find most shirts too long in the sleeves. I have two of these and love them both, but I don't like that the hoodie is extra tight. There's not a lot of room for airflow on a hot day and if you're wearing a hat, and sun gaiter, there's even less space.I find that on super hot days my body is comfy, but my head/neck is not and I'm looking for chances to take the hood off when the sun is behind some clouds.Freefly should consider making a looser hood part and putting a button there like Patagonia's Women's Tropic Comfort Natural UPF Hoody. This gives you the option to allow more airflow.
LOVE the material
I adore the material- thin, and soft. It’s really not stretchy at all. I like that it almost has a cooling effect, I think that’s just a natural quality of bamboo fabric. However, for me the dimensions are just slightly off- the sleeves are the correct length, but it’s a slightly uncomfortable stretch to have my thumbs in the thumb-holes, which is a bummer. The shirt is slightly wider than I would like, that’s why I’m not going to size up. (I am 5’ 7” and weigh 150 lb and purchased size Medium based on the size chart)
Nice but....
I am 5’4 and 190lbs, a former swimmer so my shoulders i’m just a little larger maybe than some other people. I ordered the extra large because I wanted more room, but that wasn’t enough if I put my thumbs in the thumb holes, pulled a shirt too tight. I don’t think there’s any spandex/stretchy in the shirt to make it give. I sent back the extra large and will try an extra, extra large and see if that works but I imagine it’s gonna be too big! I bought the shirt to go fishing in, but I don’t think I would do that because fish blood or mud will not come out of this type of material. I could see it staining very easily.
Has Potential
I love the soft fabric but the bright clay hoody was completely discolored after only 1 week of backpacking so I had to return it. I think there needs to be more material between the neck and hood as well because once you wear a backpack it pulls on the fabric and it’s very tight over your head. The arms could also use more length for getting the thumbs in the thumb hole comfortably. Aside from the discoloration and the fit, the fabric is AMAZING and soft so I’m not giving up! I really hope to see some adjustments in the future so I can try again.
Shrinks more than a little after washing
After reading the reviews I ordered a xl expecting some shrinkage after washing. I’m normally a large. While the material was super soft, and the fit true to size and super comfy I was extremely disappointed after its first wash. It shrunk so much I can’t use the thumb holes now. And the fit is no longer flattering. Almost a medium now. Washer was set to cold per instructions and I didn’t use the dryer. I even tried stretching the arms and torso before laying flat to dry. Such a disappointment. I’ll probably give it to my 12 year old. Xl is the largest size in woman’s so I won’t be buying again.
