runs a little small, slim fit not regular fit
Two stars for the slim fit that is not as useful or friendly for skiing. Fabric seems well thought out for a light weight athletic pant. I am planning to use these for backcountry spring skiing on warm sunny days if I can get the fit to work. I have always had great luck with the fit of Patagonia men's size medium pants regular fit, so I ordered a medium in the wind shield pants. The newer version is tighter in the waist and thigh and is "slim fit" and runs almost a size smaller ( I didn't notice the slim fit description when I ordered). I am going to return for a men's large in the hopes it won't be too big. I am a woman and find that usually men's medium pants fit my shape better than women's large.
Significantly different from previous version
These are significantly different from the previous version. Despite the name, these are gray. I appreciatethe zippers on the pockets. The fabric is a little noisy; it feels thinner, a little less soft and a little less comfy. There is more taper from the seam near the knee to the top of the zipper. That taper might be a deal breaker for some people. Despite only being water resistant for about 10 minutes during light rain they are still the most useful pants I have. The fit is almost perfect for me, better than any other pants I have ever had; the crotch is not too long. I wear them biking almost every day for 4-6 hours; if the knee down fits they are completely unrestrictive.
Previous version was better for me
Background: I am 5' 5", slim/average build. I have the previous version of the Wind Shield pants (STY24103FA22). I purchased a size small. Compared to the 2022 version, the current version: - Is smaller at the hip/waist - Overall longer legs (longer inseam) - Material is seemingly "thinner" and not as stretchy nor as warm (but it's not supposed to be a super warm pair of pants, anyway) - Zippered pockets! I wanted to use these for outdoor activities (running, hiking, cycling, etc.), as I would for my old pair, but these didn't feel "right". They are certainly thin, lightweight, and blocks the wind, but the altered fit was ultimately a deal breaker for me; it seems they designed these more for runners with even slimmer (and taller) body than mine. Your mileage may vary, and I wanted to like these pants, but I am ultimately returning these.
