I wore these on a 0 degree day. They were plenty warm while I was active and when I was not and my hands started to get cold, I put on the liner gloves and they were just right.
These started out as great mittens but after a few uses of light use the seam split at the thumb. The glove looks pristine otherwise. I thought REI would warranty them but now they have changed their policy and they no longer stand behind their products. Unfortunately I won't be being REI anymore.
I was severely disappointed with these mittens. I had a seam blow out on the side that I had to repair. Along with durability issues, the touch screen capability of liner doesn’t really work with my phone and the liner is so thin it’s basically worthless. Also, the overall warmth and insulation of the mitten is really disappointing.
Warmer than expected! I wasn't sure if these mittens would be warm enough while X-C skiing in northern Adirondacks during partly sunny 5-degree days and very snowy, windy 13-degree cloudy weather, but my hands were warm most of the time despite my Raynaud's. I especially like the glove liner (never let it get wet) with touchscreen sensitive thumb and fingertip for use with iPhone which worked most of the time and so much better than bare hands. But it stopped working after taking first photo on coldest days. Started working again after glove was re-warmed in mitten. After removing my mitten to use glove about 6x to take photos, my fingers got painfully cold but they eventually warmed 30 minutes after reinserting glove into mitten. I would give it 5 stars, but crazy that $$$$ mittens like these don't have wrist leashes and REI forgot to sell me some when I asked for them!
The mitten itself is great at waterproofing, but the warmth is terrible. It's fine around 20-32F but anything below that I would not recommend this. The inside of the mitten feels almost too spacious so grabbing things feels clunky and warming the inside of the mit back up takes forever when you take them off. Liner doesn't work well with touchscreen at all. Oftentimes need to remove gloves to do anything more than a simple tap. They work fine for being a relatively cheap glove. Would not recommend for extreme conditions though.
Purchased these about 3 months ago. Have used them maybe 6-8 times max. I take care of my gear and the palms are already delaminating and shredding apart. Stitching is coming apart and small holes are already starting to form. The liner gloves are too thin to provide any additional/useful warmth, and the touchscreen fingerpads rarely work. The mittens are not very thick/heavy and would likely be useless on their own in subzero temps. Would highly encourage anyone to pass on these. Spend the extra money for something reputable.
Excellent mittens that provide a warm, water and windproof experience. The insulation is enough to handle well below 0° with liners, and is almost too warm at that point. My hands have always been cold during winter activities in the Midwest, and these have given me warm hands for the first time!
These are great gloves!! Hands stayed warm the entire time. Warm and dry! I was unsure of the mittens but I was able to grip my poles and still slide them off easy enough.
Great mittens, very warm. I usually wear a size large, but in this case, the Mediums seem to fit better. The inner liner glove is pretty warm on it's own, and works with my phone. When the inner glove is worn in the outer mitten, the combo is very warm. There is 1 drawback to this package- the mitten leashes are sold separately- you will need to buy them extra ($6.50). Should come with the package, IMHO
Gloves fit well and go on and off well. The liners work with touchscreen and are nice and stretchy. Enough room in the mittens for a hand warmer. Wish the gloves had a wrist strap, otherwise solid product.
