On both feet each boot cut into my ankles right where the rubber and GoreTex meet. I really wanted these to work out as structurally they seem like an incredible boot! This is the second pair of Vasque's I've returned; One because I couldn't fit my feet in either boot the sizing was so off and these because of the torture. I have an older pair of Vasque's I love. Would buy again but no longer made. I will say if your feet somehow are not effected by the ankle cutting these would be amazing boots as very well made. Guess it's time to move on to another brand.
Went from some old full leather (heavy) and very firm boots to these and love them. Fitment is on point - I’m 10.5 in most shoes, and these match that sizing. They’re heavy enough to be durable and have some protection if you toe slam a rock, but light enough that I can do a light jog if I want on the trail and not feel weighed down. I wouldn’t get them for trail running, but they are nimble for hiking boots. Sole is firm but not rock solid. Only con is they do run a bit warm, but that’s expected for a waterproof boot. Might not be ideal for Arizona hiking, but great for NJ so far. Bought on sale, these were 100% worth it and my only regret is not doing it sooner.
Pinch point on the back of the boot where the upper mesh and reinforced leather meet. Not really noticeable until walking uphill. Once the back of the foot causes the upper mesh to flex, the seam at the leather stays rigid causing a constant rub on the back of the upper heel causing blisters. Had to return.
Very comfortable, well-sized boot that feels like a comfortable moccasin and performs like a tough trail shoe. It's the perfect all-weather boot I need to tackle the varied terrain and weather conditions I encounter in Alaska.
This boot fit great and comfy right out of the box. I took it for an hour hike around our ranch on the first day, then several hour-long hike a day later. Great comfort, no chafing, no water leaks.
I like the wide ball of the foot without having the boot wide all the way to the heel. I may need to replace the shoe strings as they seem to be about 6 inches short. I like to double tie my laces. I have not had them very long and with just a few short hikes. The ankle area definitely needs to be broken in as it is currently quite stiff.
I bought these as a daily hiking boot for conditioning hikes. I swap between different boots and trail shoes a lot. These boots are for when the conditions get wetter and the trails have more mud, and muck. I used them for the first time and did a quick 4+ miles hike up about 1500 elevation gain and back. My foot felt secure and my feet could splay well while the rest felt secure. I had no heal rub or blisters anywhere. (Wearing Darn Tough medium thick knee high hiking socks) These came right out of the box and out on the trail, no break in time. They were somewhat stiff at first and required a tighting of the laces after about a mile climbing up hill. (The terrain was rocky and technical, not terrible maybe a 6+ difficulty~) On my way down I didn’t have any problems with my foot shifting or moving around, my heal felt locked in, my arch felt secure and supported. This boot is good, and at a discount of $130 less than its original price, it’s a steal. I used the European size indicator of 43 which is a 10 for this boot in US sizing. The size fit exactly true for a 43, that said, I wear 43 for size with most every make of boot or shoe regardless of it’s US size being 9.5~10. I have normal width feet but have a more squared off toe box, my big toe is my longest toe with the rest almost equal to each other until the pinky toe. I hope this helps with your decision to buy or skip this boot. For reference, I have Lowa Camino GTX, Zamberlan Tofane NW GTX RR, and Altra Timp GTX in my rotation depending on what I’m hiking or backpacking. The Vasque boots are a good choice especially if you only need one pair of boots and you’re not doing anything super technical. The comfort, and stability of these boots are very good! If you’re worried about blisters wear silk friction socks with hiking socks over them. I didn’t have too, but that’s me.
I purchased these boots because they were on sale. I walk alot so I go through hiking boots fairly quickly so I am always looking for a good deal. I have only worn these boots a couple of times on short walks. But they fit my feet well and seem well built. My current go to boots have about 2500 miles on them and have minimal tread left. These new boots will take over when our snows come. I can tell you more in 6 months.
Sizing guides runs small, when my son tried to return and get a bigger size the associate at the store was rude and was not willing to help him find a solution. He wanted to replace the shoe with a size bigger the outcome was we do not carry the shoe in store they were purchased at an outlet. This was not to my knowledge when I bought them. The option she gave was to go upstairs find another shoe and exchange. Well as you all know when buying at Christmas you get sales that are not the same any other time of year. I got these shoes on sale for 79 bucks, great deal but not if you have to exchange. The associate should have tried to find the same shoe in a larger size as she has that ability not try to degrade someone for getting a good deal.
These boots are a little higher in the ankle than I’m used to but, after spacing wear days a few times, they are breaking in well. Feel like a medium duty hiking boot, and a good fit for me. Now, time will tell how they hold up.
