A solid, lighter than expected, mid-sized skillet

As Lodge is one of the biggest brands in cast iron, this skillet lives up to the expectations. However, what's different about this Blacklock pan is it's sides are thinner than the standard Lodge cast iron skillets, making the pan lighter and a little easier to handle at this size. They've also trimmed a bit of the material from the handle, making it even lighter. The expected non-stick nature out of a well seasoned cast iron skillet works as expected too. The Lodge silicon handle cover is a handy accessory that makes handling the hot pan a little easier during use.

Fun to Use, Heats Quickly

Fun to Use – Heats Quickly   Eight years ago a tragedy struck when I relocated across State and somehow I lost my seasoned heirloom cast iron skillet! I have been without one ever since. This skillet is a dream come true for me. First off, it shipped and arrived quickly and was well packaged. As others have mentioned, the pan feels lighter weight than my old timer skillet, yet also feels perfectly solid. Following the directions out of the box, I did a quick wash and rinse, thorough dry, and light oiling [used the Lodge Cast Iron care kit]. I highly recommend a silicone handle cover for extra grip and burn protection [the Lodge care kit actually includes one]. I whipped up some bacon and then an omelette. The bacon did great. My omelette cooked up fluffly and evenly, with just a little egg residue sticking to the pan. I suspect that was user error in having the heat a tad too high. It appears this pan is very responsive to heat and does not require much. It is ready to use almost immediately once it's on the flame. The bits of egg removed quickly, and cleanup was easy. I look forward to using this pan regularly for home and outdoors and I will be including it in our car camping box starting later this spring. In full disclosure, I received a free product in exchange for an honest review.

10” Lodge Cast Iron Frying Pan Review

It’s been a while since I’ve own cast iron cookware. It’s heavy, clunky and scratches my cooktop…let alone all the work that goes into maintaining it. Enter the new Lodge Cast Iron cookware. I was pleased to see it arrived PRESEASONED and it comes in around half the weight of my old frying pan. I was pretty excited and took it for a spin right away. It heated up well and, initially, was almost as easy to use as my non-stick pans. About midway through cooking, I noticed a little sticking but not a dealbreaker. I decided to push it by throwing in cheese and pasta noodles I wanted to reheat. I definitely noticed some sticking, but finished cooking and plated the food. I then poured a little wine in the pan and used it as a deglaze/pan sauce. The majority of the food came right out! I wiped it down and used the Lodge Cookware Care set to scrape it down and give it a quick wipe before adding another layer of the included oil. All in all, a great experience and definitely one I’d recommend!

A solid, but not amazing cast iron skillet

To start with, this skillet will now be my go to for baking. Mainly cornbread and the occasional cinnamon rolls. The weight is nice and Lodge did a nice job on a factory seasoning. To test the seasoning I did a basic fried egg in butter once the pan was hot enough to cook on. The egg slid around like it was on a nonstick pan mainly. It did get caught on the flip, so it wasn't perfect, but with time and some more seasoning this pan will pop out my cornbread in one piece with no sticking. My biggest gripe is the handle is a bit small.

Super Product

The pan is a nice size and is safe to move with the long and short handles. I made skillet fries for first use since it is the messiest dish I make. After removing the cooked potatoes, I boiled water in it to remove debris. After the pan cooled, it was almost clean with a simple wipe up with paper towels. Even though I love the pan, i would not call it "non-stick". I would buy this item as a gift.

Cast Iron Beauty

I used it at my son's outdoor fit pit. It's a great product and cleaned up well with the cleanup kit that came with it. It's well made, sturdy, and easy to handle and use. I received this free product in exchange for an honest review. I would highly recommend this product for cooking, indoors or outdoors. Don't why I never got one before this.

Cast iron cooking bliss

We use this both on our cooktop as well as over an open fire. It distributes heat well for an even cook. I loved that it came with a full kit including a hot handle, seasoning spray, scraper and brush. So far it has maintained its seasoning without issues. We use this on a weekly basis and have been very happy with the cooking results.

Drop an egg on it!

The Lodge Blacklock series is a set of cast iron pans which are supposed to be lighter than the standard Lodge offerings, but still with Lodge's excellent triple seasoning out of the box. While it's not necessarily hard to season a cast iron pan yourself, it is certainly nice to be able to take it out of the box and start using it. In fact, the box proudly invites you to "drop an egg on it!" After removing the pan from the box and rinsing it off, I did just that, with a tablespoon of butter for a little lubrication. To no-one's great surprise, the pan cooked the egg just fine, though with slightly more sticking than a true non-stick pan. The lighter weight of the pan is both a positive and negative. On one hand the pan is far easier to maneuver than my other Lodge skillets, but it also doesn't quite have the same thermal inertia that is so useful when searing meat. While I don't think I would want that tradeoff in my home kitchen, for a camp kitchen it is absolutely worth it. It's also worth noting that like all cast iron the Blacklock is induction safe, though it certainly may scratch your glass countertops. I would also note that my particular pan came with a single pebble of imperfection from the casting process, which would be relatively easy to file down if I cared, but nonetheless might bother someone else. All in all, this is a quality pan and worth the price.

Wonderful piece of cookware

Really happy with this skillet! Pre-seasoned from the factory, which is excellent, and it holds heat brilliantly. Great for steaks or browning ground beef/chicken. The silicon handle cover does slip off a bit easily, so watch out for that. Overall - a great product at a reasonable price.
