- Belay device with cam-assisted blocking, optimized for lead climbing; for belaying both lead and top-rope climbers
- Integrated wheel allows you to smoothly and quickly pay out slack to the climber
- Cam-assisted blocking for a more comfortable belay
- When the climber falls or weights the system, the rope tightens, the wheel stops spinning, and the cam pivots to pinch and block the rope
- Feeding slack and catching falls are accomplished using techniques standard to all Petzl belay devices, always keeping a hand on the brake side of the rope
- Cam-assisted blocking offers leeway for the brake-side hand position, regardless of the angle between the climber side and brake side of the rope
- Compatible with 8.5 to 11 mm dynamic single ropes and optimized for those 8.9 to 10.5 mm
- Easy to install the rope using the diagram engraved on the belay device
- Ergonomic handle allows you to easily unblock the rope and lower someone and provides comfortable descent control
- 3:1 mechanical advantage from the handle and camming mechanism helps reduce the amount of effort needed to smoothly control the rate of descent, regardless of rope diameter
- Eco-design: All plastic components, including the handle, are made with recycled nylon

Revolutionary!
I've been testing this device for 8 months and have had an excellent experience with it in every application. It simply does everything better. Lead belays don't require any special technique to pay out slack quickly, no more short ropes, taking in slack for TR or belaying a second is effortless. The Grigri does lock up a little easier/faster, so I still use it for certain applications, but I always reach for the Neox now when I go climbing, and my partners prefer it too.
For Experienced Belayers
if you are an experienced Belayer who's supporting a Sport Lead Climber clipping bolts, then this new device may be the bomb-diggity for you, I've watxched the videos and you can pay out slack to the clipper MUCH FASTER with this device. However, you'd better keep your hand on the brake rope, because the "catch" needs to be more forceful for the wheel to engage the rope. You can see that in the demo videos. If you are in the market for a new device, and oyu know what you are doing, then great = go fo it. But if you are a typical climber or Belayer, you might want to stick with the GriGri 3; and if you are new to Belaying, you might even want to considder the GriGri+ model.
Smooth feeding and enjoyable belaying
Purchased as an upgrade for lead belay verses the Grigri. Love the smoothness of feeding. The belay style mimics the old tube style belay devices so its a good transition for those who have been hesitant of the grigri or other assisted braking devices. Locks well when needed and feeds as wanted.
The GriGri and an ATC had a baby!
Wow! Imagine if a GriGri and an ATC had a baby... that's the Neox! It's a game changer for lead belaying. It combines the best features of both the ATC and the GriGri, offering smooth slack payout like an ATC (and I mean buttery, effortlessly smooth) and reliable cam locking during falls just like a GriGri. Externally, it resembles a GriGri, but GriGri users will immediately notice the new wheel cam instead of the traditional cam. The instant I first paid out slack with the Neox, I audibly yelled "OMG!" It was THAT good—smooth as buttery and with virtually no effort. My climbing partners had the same reaction. The Neox isn't just a slight improvement over the GriGri for lead belaying—it's leaps and bounds better. No more short roping when the cam accidentally engages, as the Neox is the lead belayer's DREAM. Petzl has changed the game, and eventually, I'm sure MOST GriGri lead belayers will migrate to this, unless there's a specific reason the need a traditional GriGri. Don't hesitate—go out and get one now!
No more short-roping!
I highly recommend the Neox for belaying a lead climber. It’s much easier to feed rope with on lead than a GriGri. It catches falls smoothly, works fine on top-rope, and is easy to lower with.
Way better than a grigri
Use standard belay technique (like you're supposed to with the grigri), never pinch it and its the best belay device ever. Major improvement.
Great lead belay device
Great lead belay device; feeds very easily, catches just like a Grigri. Could not be more pleased!
Awesome for Lead and Top, no more Revo for me
IDK why the Neox gets a bad rep, but it's great. It has all the velocity based grip benefits of the Revo without the pain of having no brake handle. I don't find it drops climbers far at all before it catches (maybe an inch or two?), but I know people make that claim. My Revo will drop someone 2-3 feet before it locks and even then I have to hold their entire weight with my hand as it's almost impossible to lock to rest while tensioned. If you like the GrisGris, but want to enjoy leading without wanting to toss the cursed GrisGris off a cliff in a fit of rage, the Neox is perfect. I use the Neox for everything now. My Edelrid Pinch and Wild Country Revo are almost entirely unused. I also sold my GrisGris to my roommate cause the Neox is awesome for top ropes too!
Specific Niche + Experienced Belayer
If you are (a) VERY experienced with a Gri Gri and (b) belaying a Lead Climber, then Yes, this device is extremely good for your SPECIFIC situation. But I would not climb above one of these unless I had 1000% confidence in my belayer; because if they aren't holding the brake side rope, I'm gonna "Deck" for sure! Personally, I would rather have me belayer short rope me than deck me. The short rope can be fixed; hitting the ground from 40+ feet cannot.
Perfect Lead Belay Device
Perfect Lead Belay Device. Took a couple of belays to slightly adjust from a regular Grigri to the Neox. I really like this for lead belaying but prefer the regular Grigri for top-rope belaying and multi-pitches (due to weight).
