Dont buy- Failed after less the 10 uses - company
Do not buy this brand !! We used it less then 10 times last year - pumped it up for the second time this season and a hole blew - luckily we were not on the water- messaged the company. They say nothing we can do because we are in Canada. Was sold in canada still is..Won't even send glue if we could even attempt to fix . We chose it because on sale but it was not the cheapest board so thought it should be good. We stored slightly inflated so not bent in bag but just terrible construction - seams also lifting in many other spots-don't waste your money
It's worth it
Awesome inflatable board. As someone who grew up with heftier fiberglass SUPs, I was really impressed with the quality and stability of this Retrospec. Pumping takes only a few mins, with the benefit of a little bonus arm workout! If that's a deal breaker for ya, just get an electric pump to hook up to your car. On the water its solid and takes wind/waves well. Portability is unmatched! Carrying case with backpack straps is a game changer, from biking with it to hike-in only water access, this board is unparalleled with others I've tried. Pull the trigger! Get the board.
Great SUP for the price - Fits in backpack easily
I have used this SUP 3 times now on windy days and calm days. The SUP appears to be made very good structurally. Since I put this SUP in the case after usage it is important to note the pieces and parts all fit into the backpack easily. I weigh 177lbs and it is rated for 300. At 12 PSI it is very stable. Since I was not sure this hobby would last, I did not purchase and electric or battery pump. It is not terrible to pump up by hand, but at my age that is a workout itself. Today Iam purchasing a pump.
Not a reliable product or company
Purchased with the hope for easy paddling. While that was the case, after about 6 uses, one board (I bought a pair) developed a small leak. It does come with a patch kit, but I was hoping after 6 uses to NOT have a leak already. What's more, the pump that comes with it is flimsy and makes quite a bit of noise, not to mention the effort involved in pumping it up. Lubricating the pump did nothing. Not a happy camper/paddler. I tried to return to REI who stated I should follow up with Retrospec directly. I did. They asked for photos, receipts and such. I sent photos and a video of the leak occurring. They said to just patch it. Not happy.
Dangerous paddle
Board is great, paddle is dangerously faulty. The 4th or 5th time out I hit some wind and the first time I paddled hard to get into the wind and back to the bay the whole paddle bent significantly. This means weak metal and will eventually break, I'm lucky it didn't at that time. REI would only refund if I sent the board back too which makes sense but I like the board so I bought a new paddle. Retrospec wouldn't give me any refund themselves but kept trying to send me another of the same paddle which obviously I didn't want. Seems like bad business not just to reimburse the cost of my new paddle.
Great price, good product
This paddle board is GREAT for the price. Easy to inflate, deflate, carry, and pack up. I have a dog and she’s able to jump on and off of it with ease and has not pierced it. Very sturdy and great size for me. My measurements are below. I will say, this is a VERY basic paddle board. If you plan to use it a lot, pay an extra $150 and you’ll get all the bells and whistles. Reasons I only rated 4 stars: - I am 5’5” 120 lbs, so it’s a bit hard for me to carry/move in and out of the water. There’s only one handle in the middle. Other boards have a handle at the front and back. - if you plan to hook stuff to it, there’s only 1 in the front and back. Lots of other boards have them on the sides or underneath. - biggest con is the paddle. I will most likely purchase a better one. If you try to extend, it will not hold and will just move around to different heights. It’s also not super dense so a bit hard to steer in waves. Again, great paddle board for price. I plan to keep and hopefully use for a long time.
pretty good!
great paddle board for the price. i have been renting SUPs for about 3 years but finally pulled the trigger on a blow up because its super portable & i can hop into the lake wherever i please. ive used it a handful of times & can tell you its super quick simple to pump up. There are a lot of branches but have not had any punctures!
The paddle doesn't float
A basic rule of paddles is that it should float. This one doesn't. We lost 2 of them and Retrospec has been unable to fulfill replacement paddles for over a month (when they said it'd be 30 days) and now they say it's looking like the end of November. Cool, except, we're you're in Wisconsin, we're not paddling in November. Moving target products like this are so frustrating. My advice? Buy a different inflatable with a quality paddle.
Great board for the price
Very nice board for the price after 5 uses. I don’t understand why you would need these boards that are 3x the price. Board feels super sturdy in some choppy lake water when inflated to specified pressure with easy to use pump (that can also vacuum deflate the board too!). Seems to be nicely puncture resistant after 5 uses, had it bouncing off some rocks in class I and II rapids no issues (just take the fins off before you do that). Carrying case and accessories are all nice, wish it had a rear bungie storage but for this price that’s hardly a knock.
Great board for the buck$
Great paddle board for the money. We needed a board to get started and this fits perfectly. So happy we bought another one so we could enjoy the water together. Go ahead and get the electric pump. You’ll be glad you do.
