First look at the 24” woom OFF AIR 5 Kids Mountain Bike, I wish I’m a kid again. The aluminum frame design looks modern and rugged. It screams for off-roading. We got the Terra Coppa color and it looks amazing. My 10 year old had no interest in riding bikes. But when he saw the woom OFF AIR 5, he actually asked to go ride. Unboxing and installation took only about 20 minutes. The most time it took was carefully cutting the zip ties off the bike. While installing, I was just impressed how well the bike is built and the components used. The aluminum frame is lightweight. It’s a 9 speed using SRAM X5. Changing gears is easy to trigger and smooth. The hydraulic disc brakes are reliable and when needed, it has the stopping power. Having a thru axle wheel is a huge plus. The F1RST hydraulic air suspension fork feels smooth and controlled. The Schwalbe Rocket Ron tires have really good grip over gravel and are smooth on the road. Riding the woom OFF AIR 5 feels great. Shifting the gears is precise. Riding it off road, uphill or downhill, the bike feels solid and in control. The suspension absorbs all the bumps and makes the ride smooth and enjoyable. The brakes are very responsive. Apart from the components, the geometry of the bike makes a big difference. It just feels comfortable riding it. The woom OFF AIR is also future proof. The wheels and tires are tubeless ready. The frame is also ready to add a dropper seatpost. The bike looks great and has lots of solid components. But the most important fact is my kid now wants to go out and ride. This joy of riding, you can’t buy.
My 10 year old daughter is in love with this bike. She’s really been wanting a bike with front suspension and this one ended up being perfect for her. She’s about 55 inches tall. This bike is a good fit for her size now and there’s room for her to grow. The bike is lightweight and she was able to maneuver it around really easily. She was really happy with the suspension. In her words “Wow! There’s like no bumps now.” She figured out how to shift the gears on her own and said it was really smooth. There is only a back derailleur making it easy for her to know what gear she is in. She did lots testing of the brakes and said they were “nice and strong.” The top tube is sloped down, which made it easy for her to hop on and off of it. It also comes in colors that are gender neutral. The one she has is a terra cotta color, which she loves. The grips are a small sized diameter and she was easily able to wrap her hand around and access the brakes. Neither of us could think of anything bad to say about this bike. We think it would be a great fit for any little adventure seeker.
We just got this bike for my 9 year old son. It’s his first bike that’s not a hand me down. It was easy to put together, the instructions were easy to follow and it took minimal time. We were able to adjust everything for his size quickly without any issues. The gears shift smoothly and are easy for him to manage (his last bike he had a difficult time reaching to shift while riding). Winter finally came right as we got the bike so we haven’t been able to try it on any trails but he loves riding the the neighborhood for now. We’ll update the review in the spring if we encounter any issues once we take it on some trails.
