Not safe
I've had a Yepp Maxi seat for a bit less than a year and a half. This morning the belt came off when tightening - luckly not while biking. This construction doesn't seem safe and I'm surprised that it's legal in my country. The bike stands inside over night and is generally not exposed to sun light or anything else, that could weaken the material. Do not buy this.
good seat but could be improved
we used this for our son from 11 months-4 years (recently updated to a running board-style cargo bike). I think this is one of the best options available for this kind of seat but leaving these suggestions in hopes that certain features could be improved upon in future versions: -could use a chest level clip (and possibly some kind of detachable headrests on either side, or some kind of recline option?) because my son inevitably fell asleep on the way home from every outing. his head would waggle around, drop forward, and then his shoulders would work their way loose from the straps. I have ridiculous photos of all the different ways we tried to invent diy solutions to this problem -We used both the standard rack adapter and the extra-long rack adapter on a standard rack, and neither was ideal. Both add a decent amount of weight (We live in NYC and lug our bikes up 3 flights of stairs). I actually ended up busting the welds on 2 different racks after long term use, commuting with a kid plus loaded panniers.
It certainly sounds like you and your family are getting a lot of use out of the bike seat! Thank you for your feedback on the Thule Thule Yepp Maxi. Your input has been forwarded to Thule's product development team for reference on the next generation of Thule child bike seats.
NOT Yepp Maxi Easyfit can't be used on rack
Great seat, but two issues any potential buyer should be aware of: Not all bikes can handle the frame mount. Make sure your bike works with this before buying! (You'll probably need to use the rack mounted Yepp Maxi Easyfit in that case. Since it's not clear on the site, this is not interchangeable with the Yepp Maxi Easyfit, which is the exact same seat but with a different base, which is meant for bike racks. It is difficult on many/most bikes to have both the Yepp Maxi frame adapter and a bike rack. Unless you check ahead of time with your bike, you should assume that you can't use the frame mount Yepp Maxi and a rear bike rack at the same time.
Love the bike seat!
Absolutely love the Yepp2 maxi. So easy to install and it arrived super quickly. Really comfy and my little one loves it. Can't wait to ride more this summer.
Exactly what I was looking for
I bought it couple weeks ago, my baby look confortable. Good quality , easy to install and will fit a couple years.
Great seat and east to use
We used this seat with 2 of our kids, they both loved it.
Sturdy Construction Worth it's Price Tag
We love how sturdy the materials making up this seat are. The heavy duty bracket design is awesome and not springy like some other seats. The quick release bracket once inserted does not allow any play therefore no swaying side to side while riding. Some assembly involved but wasn't difficult. Instructions could be better but videos help. Harness clasp a bit awkward to undo. Very comfortable padding made our little one happy even on bumpy trails. I have used cheaper seats in the past but don't regret dishing out more $$ for the Yepp.
Great seat but the clamp will wreck your frame
We bought this to take our son out on rides. I installed it exactly as directed, even used a torque wrench to make sure nothing was over tightened. We used it maybe a dozen times for short rides and it seemed to be getting looser. Took the clamp off and the seat tube of the bike is completely deformed. If you're okay with that, I'd recommend it, but don't mount this to a bike you love with a bigger child/toddler because the bike will be permanently damaged. Save your bike and just get a rack mounted one or a trailer instead.
Best Bike Seat Ever
Had one stolen with a Mt. bike 26" wheel, Large frame, and replaced it with exactly the same Yepp Maxi ocean blue! pros - safe for kids 20-45 Lbs.; easy seat add-on only removal with full locking mechanism. cons - the iron frame that mounts to your bike is almost 2 times heavier than the seat clip-on with 5 point harness that goes with it - truly can't be mounted on a too light weight of a a bike, as the rider can totally loose control of the bike. overall - heavier load is still well worth the safety assurances you get with using this seat note - as with ALL bike seats check with you local certified bike shop mechanic first, which bikes/types is this product applicable to, as it's really not meant for the bike types of 4 folks rating this product with 1 star 3-4 years ago, after wanting it to work for them way too bad - reviewers' revenge.
There should be an adapter to put this on a bike r
Absolutely no reason to not make an adapter so that the frame-mounted version can be put on a bike rack. Some people have bikes where the frame Mount works better as well as bikes where the rackmount works better. now I have a kids bike seat that can only fit one of my bikes and not the other two. Gets two stars because it does work great as long as it fits on the bike.
