These shoes are incredibly light feeling but have great traction. It almost feels like a racing shoe except I cant feel all the roots and rocks underfoot. Traction is great even under wet conditions. If you need a supportive shoe these arent for you, they are great light trail shoe but that doesnt leave much for support. They also might run slightly on the narrow side but otherwise sizing was accurate.
First run was 4 miles on trails in Southwestway Park, Indianapolis. Very impressed with the overall feel, good cushion, great traction going downhill, and light feeling. I've purchased over 5 pairs of Hoka Speedgoats for their great traction and breathability.... but this last pair of Speedgoat 5's are totally worn down in the back tread under hill, and so when you are running downhill it's a little tricky. These new SALOMON GENESIS shoes felt great, and the tread and rubber feel much stronger than Hoka Speedgoats.
Finally able to try these out the other day and was disappointed in the durability of the plush cushioning in the shoe. The Genesis is overall a comfortable trail running shoe, minus the small toe box. However, after my run, I noticed many punctures on the plush cushioning on the sides and bottoms of the shoes. I don’t think this will affect the comfort of the shoe but I’m wondering over time what this can do to the shoe. The lugs style contagrip portion of the shoe is durable and provides good traction but my worries are with the ease of puncturing through the plush.
Hey, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We often adjust our products based on direct customer feedback. We will make sure to pass this along to our designers for consideration in future products.
I have owned many pairs of Salomon shoes over the past 10 years, and these seem like an excellent progression of prior features. These combine the tread and grip of aggressive trail shoes with the dense cushioning of a plush road running shoe. The speed lacing system has become the main feature I seek when purchasing a pair of this brand’s shoes because it allows easy adjustment based on sock thickness and time of day. The lacing can be tightened to provide a secure fit for aggressive endeavors and loosened for walking around town before or after. The tongue of the shoe incorporates a fabric shield to prevent debris from getting into the bottom. Right out of the box, the shoe felt comfortable without a real break in experience. The arch support was more similar to a road running shoe, with a soft arch that provided support without aching. The forefoot is well ventilated for summer adventures and seems durable from initial uses on wooded trails.
These trail runners grab your attention at first glance, unfortunately, they are not the right fit for me. These being not my first Salomon shoes, the size 11 I got was right for me in terms of length, however, immediately, I couldn't get a solid lockdown on my right heel. On the first run in the wild, my left pinky toe immediately started developing a blister a few miles in due to the narrow width and the right pinky followed shortly thereafter. Not sure what happened here, I do not wear wide shoes. Otherwise, I would have been very happy with the level of cushioning, the style, the breathability and ContaGrip traction.
It’s a good shoe. I don’t run much any more due to injuries, so I mostly need a good walking shoe. Standard fit. The drawstring laces are convenient, especially for something like a triathlon where your hand are tired or cold weather. Overall, would recommend. Plus, the design is great and they look good!
I’ve had these shoes for a few weeks now and have formed a definitive opinion, I love them but I’m gonna have to modify them to keep using them. They run narrow which I knew from previous experience with Salomon shoes so I sized a half size up. The fit is fairy well but still feel narrow, so keep that in mind if you have wider feet. On the plus side, man are these some light trail runners! I’ve put about 30 trail miles on these and it still fells weird to hit the trails with something so light on my feet. They still maintain perfectly adequate toe protection; though parts of my upper foot feel vulnerable, I have had no issue and this may just be a perception thing for me. The material does seem bulletproof to tearing and the traction has been excellent. Now on to my major issue with the shoe, the lacing system. The quick lace system has a hefty pull in the middle which bounces right on the middle of the toe when fully cinched. The material of the shoe allows this to be felt pretty well. This wouldn’t be an issue if there was a means of securing the cinch. I’ve tried tucking it under the other laces and into the shoe. It’s too uncomfortable to tuck into the shoe and comes out after a few miles tucked under the laces (plus adds a tiny pressure point). There is no way to shorten the cinch so I will likely cut it off and tie a knot to make this shoe work for. There is a lot right with this shoe but I can’t look past this one issue with the cinch.
I bought the Salomon Genesis hoping, based on the description that, these trail shoes could be an every day and condition shoe. Definitely not disappointed! These shoes just flat out perform. Plenty of room in the toe box, amazing grip on muddy surfaces and lots of cushion over sharp objects and tree roots. The Salomon quick lace system performs well no matter what the conditions and the upper of this shoe is very breathable and lite and at the same time, provides great fit and control even on very steep traverses across hill sides. I would definitely recommend this shoe. If you want some waterproofness, pick the gortex version.
Extremely comfortable and stable shoe! I like the pull laces. I wear an orthotic lift in one shoe and this makes it easy to slip on and tie on the fit. Also, the insoles are super comfortable. The heel does a great job at securing your foot with very little if any lateral movement. The forefoot is definitely designed for slightly more narrow foot, however, maintains decent toe mobility room. Despite how streamlined the shoe is, it remains very stable and shock absorbing. Can wait to continue to wear it!
Wow! Widened heel and amazing grip makes this one of my favorite shoes I have run on to date. So far I have about 34 miles and 14,000ft of ascent in them. The stability on technical rocky terrain is so good. Between the lug pattern, the soft contragrip, and the widened heel I felt so safe plowing through whatever was in front of me. My girlfriend and I loved them this weekend! Amazing job Salomon!
