I added this vest to my hydration pack collection. I’m new to Salomon brand. First purchase. It’s nice color. I use this for long distance running so far. Like the flexible water bottles . And it’s easy to take on/ off . I got the Large size. I Plan to use it while trail running and hiking one of these days.
I wanted to wait until I've used this enough to review it. I was a little worried looking for running vests, this is my first. I have to say it has never rubbed me the wrong way. I like that it has the ability to run water flasks or a hydration bladder, the compartment is big enough to keep a light rain jacket and a snack just in case, and the pockets up front have never caused issue with any small items I'm carrying. Overall a good time from roads to trail, rain or shine, I've taken this thing through some miles now and would happily buy another if this ever wears out. Also of note, it doesn't seem to keep any scents after use.
I have used this on several 100km runs and there is plenty of space for food and any required clothing / medical kit /etc. I have also added the extra water bladder in the back and it's perfect. My one complaint is that the two water bottles it came with seem to have teats that come off too easily. On my last race, I went to have a drink whilst running and the teat came off and fell onto the trail, I couldn't find it and the bottle was now useless for the rest of the race (thankfully it wasn't too hot). Salomon do better bottles - use them when selling this and don't give us these cheap ones!
I always read lots of reviews and watch as many reviews and it pays off. This little vest is perfect for the reasons I wanted it. I didn’t even feel like I was wearing it. It holds two 500ml flask’s comfortably. Pockets easy to access and I like the zip pockets. I have my poles in the Salomon quiver and didn’t feel them bouncing around.
A good vest for running and hikes. I previously purchased the Salomon Active Skin 8 but wanted to have a bit more cargo capacity for longer trail days. Overall the Active Skin 12 is still a great vest, lots of storage room and it appears to be as quality made as the 8 I purchased approx 2 years ago. I do feel like the XL is looser than the older vest, also in XL. I also feel the bungee straps on the front sit a bit differently, lower across my chest, not uncomfortable but I know they are there even after several adjustments. Again, still a great quality vest and I would have rated higher if I didn’t feel that the sizing has changed. I would recommend the product, but ensure you try the size before purchase.
No bouncing during the run, easy to access the pockets, easy to use the water bottles, super light you can’t even feel it, highly recommended for trail runners
Pack functions just fine, though I have issues with the underside of my arms being chaffed raw during runs with this pack. To remedy I will have to modify the pack with some moleskin or some other option. Also, the teats on the flasks that come with the pack come off pretty easy. Took a drink on trail while running today and the teat came fly off onto the trail and almost all the water in my flask dumped out. Luckily was not far from a spring bottom for a top up.
I absolutely love this vest. I got it for races and long distance running and it’s become a staple. I don’t have to bag check my items at a race because the backpack portion of my vest carries everything smoothly and evenly distributes the weight. I’ve carried only my headphone case in the backpack without feeling it move once during my races. The only downfall is I do chafe if parts of the vest are touching my skin during long runs so I have to make sure I wear a full tshirt under the vest, especially on long runs
I decided to get a XS based on the sizing chart. I have to say it does run a bit smaller than expected so if you’re conflicted between 2 sizes, I would size up. Also I would wash it before using, since the dye stained my shirt under. I had 2 running vest before and I never had this problem and they were far more affordable than this vest. I don’t know if I got a defected one but I was disappointed this happened since the shirt was new as well. If this didn’t happen I would give it 4 stars since it did chaf my neck
I thought i was ordering an identical replacement for my previous Active Skin 12 which had been amazing for the past 5 years, Unfortunately some of the key features on the previous Active Skin 12 have now been deleted. The biggest downside to this new version is there is now dramatically less storage pockets than before especially the long pocket that went all around the waist area across the back that could be accessed from both sides via the side pockets which are now also gone.
