As with any earbud, you must accept compromises

### Pros: - **Battery Life:** I've used these earbuds continuously for hours without any issues with battery life. They perform reliably in this regard. - **Comfort:** These earbuds are much more comfortable than in-ear models, especially for running. Since they rest over your ear rather than inside it, they’re barely noticeable when no audio is playing—it's easy to forget you have them on. - **Secure Fit:** The over-ear design keeps them securely hooked during use. However, they can be easily knocked off when removing a shirt over your head. If you’re not actively listening to audio and forget you’re wearing them, it’s possible to accidentally dislodge them without noticing. - **Situational Awareness:** Since your ears remain open, you can hear ambient sounds like vehicles or voices while running outdoors. This is a great safety feature. ### Neutral: - **Sound Quality:** The sound quality is compromised by the open-ear design, but it strikes an acceptable balance for me since I primarily use these for outdoor runs in suburban areas. The microphone quality for phone calls also seems fine. I previously tried OpenRun bone conduction headphones but found that style wasn’t for me. - **Water Resistance:** These earbuds have held up during long runs in heavy rain and hot, sweaty conditions. However, I’ve experienced instances where they became waterlogged (audio quality deteriorates temporarily). While they recover after drying out, this can be frustrating during use. ### Cons: - **Charging Case Issues:** The earbuds often remain "on" inside the charging case due to unreliable contact points between the earbuds and the case. This causes two major problems: 1. The earbuds drain their battery instead of charging, leaving them dead when you expect them to be fully charged. 2. While still "on" in the case, they stay connected to your phone, leading to frustrating situations where your phone defaults to the earbuds’ mic/speaker—even if they’re in another room. This issue seems to worsen if the case moves around in a pocket or bag. Although Shokz replaced my first pair after I complained, the replacement had the same problem, suggesting this is a design flaw. Among all wireless earbuds I’ve owned, this model is the only one with this issue. - **Touch Controls:** I strongly dislike touch controls on fitness headphones because they don’t work reliably when wet from sweat or rain. Also, moisture or wet hair can trigger random actions on the touch controls. A feature to completely disable touch controls would help mitigate this issue. Personally, I’d prefer tactile waterproof buttons instead. Additionally, the customization options for programming touch controls are limited and don’t suit my needs. - **Limited Versatility:** While ambient noise awareness is great for outdoor running safety, it’s undesirable in environments like airplanes where you want noise isolation to focus on a podcast or movie. - **Bulky Design:** The over-ear design makes the charging case large and clunky compared to other earbuds. It’s inconvenient to carry in a pocket. ### Final Thoughts: After owning several different makes and models of earbuds, I've come to realize that all earbuds involve compromises—you have to prioritize what matters most to you. My top priority with these is running safety, and they perform well in that context (except in wet conditions). However, the charging case issue is maddening and detracts from the overall experience. Before purchasing the OpenFit earbuds, I owned Jabra Elite 8 Active earbuds, which were fully waterproof with tactile buttons and electronic noise-canceling features that allowed toggling ambient noise on/off. Unfortunately, those developed issues quickly, and Jabra didn’t stand by their product. If Shokz were to release a model combining waterproofing, tactile buttons, and noise-canceling features similar to Jabra’s offering—but with better reliability—I’d be very interested.

Sorry, but not for me!

I’m an old fan of Shokz as I started using those bad boys since the Titanium edition and every single model after that. However, I think this model is not for me as they could never stay in place no matter how much I try! The other thing is the very hard to get used to touch controllers. With the earset not being firmly fixed and how they rattle when I try to use the controller, that's a very critical issue for me! Then comes the comfort, as I feel tgey are going to fall off my ears at any moment, this generates a lack of comfort. I wish I can return them!

BEST "earbuds" EVER

After trying a friend's Shokz, I ordered 3 for my family (the OpenRun model)!!! I could not believe how awesome not only the sound was but the comfort as well. The best part is you can wear them and still hear your surroundings (great for jogging/walking and even hands-free phone use in the car, or anytime! I no longer need to worry about earbuds falling out of my ears or losing them! A dilemma I did have was whether to get the regular or mini size...the ONLY difference is the size of the band that goes around the back of your head (which if not worn correctly, the band in back will interfere with wearing a baseball cap/hat and annoy you while in the car - headrest). I listened to my friend and purchased the mini size (for me, my husband and my 13 year old son; we have average size heads) - they were perfect. It does take a little getting used to as in the beginning, after about an hour, it felt a little uncomfortable at the front of our ears but now we can wear them all day (my husband loves them for phone use as he runs his plumbing company & we all love them for the music!). Control buttons are easy to operate, for volume, answering & disconnecting calls, replay or skip music tracks, etc.). I took a pic on my phone of the controls from the booklet for reference until I used my shokz enough times to remember what/where the controls are). It also comes with a real nice carry pouch! If you don't like the idea of the band around the back of your head, Shokz does have the OpenFit model Bluetooth earbuds with soft, over-the-ear loops - I purchased these for my older son and he loves them! They come with a carry/charger case. The charger connects to the unit magnetically so it is not a standard C plug so you will need to use the charger that comes with the unit. Charges fast and battery can last 2+ weeks (depends on usage). Best product in this category and the sound quality is phenomenal!!! You won't regret this purchase!

Great on trail runs and long periods of use!

These Earbuds are AMAZING!!! The sound is great, yes they are not a deep BASS kind of earbud but that's not the purpose of these little guys. I have worn them for 8 hours straight before needing to be recharged and the comfort is great. I wear them on trail runs and cycling and they are pretty secure. I love having music playing with still being able to hear my surroundings. Works very well for phone calls as well. No problems with connecting and I have not experienced them disconnected. I can't say anything wrong about them. I would totally recommend them and would definitely buy them again! CHEERS!

My Favorites!

Owned for 3 weeks. I use them primarily in the car. I'm in Phoenix and it's summer, 117 degrees last week. So, AC is full blast. 1. Battery life is astounding. I charge one a week, but i could stretch futher. I use the headset 2-3 hours a day. 2. Sound is exceptional. Having the power to adjust depending on my needs with the app has been great. 3. Comfortable, yep. I could wear them all day. 4. Call quality is perfect. 5. I wish I could adjust them more. Sometimes, when outside noise is high, I'm pushing the right ear in to hear better. I'm coming off Bose and Galaxy Buds headsets. These compete. Give them a try.

Good but not satisfied

I really like the whole concept of not wrapping around your head, in that case more comfort. The actual point that sits around the inner ear, not so comfortable. Leaves my ear sore, and I wasn’t impressed with the fact that it doesn’t have the option to turn down volume without taking your phone out my pocket. Sound quality great, voice clarity great, haven’t had someone say “what” over and over again. I kinda hope I can get new ones or some money back honestly.

Great for staying aware of your surroundings!

Better sound than the open run pro. Not sure why people complain about not being able to adjust volume on the headset; YOU CAN! You have to use the app to configure how to use them. I have mine set so that holding the right head piece volume goes up, holding left head piece goes down. These are meant for people who want to be able to hear their surroundings. They don’t block wind, not good for on air planes. They are great for working out when you want to hear your surroundings, or around the house or phone calls. Very comfortable, can wear them for a few hours at a time; I can’t wear most in ear buds for more than about 30 minutes without feeling irritated. They are a solid 5 for what they are.

As a regular runner I

As a regular runner I was very excited to try these out. They sound a lot better than areopex I also have. The new open fit have more of traditional earbud sound with good bass and treble while still offering you the ability to hear what’s going on around you like its sibling the areopex. They are really comfy to wear on my 6 mile runs in the morning and don’t move around much. I have very large ears so it took me a little bit to get them to sit properly initially but once I figured it out they were all good. The only reason I can’t give them 5 stars is because the touch controls can be a little unreliable when you are super sweaty around mid run. I would really prefer a physical button again.

Deep appreciation for these headphones

I find it difficult to articulate, but I have a deep appreciation for these headphones. The feeling of weightlessness and exceptional sound clarity are beyond belief. I utilize them for my weekly 50-mile runs, and they function without any issues. They pair seamlessly with my iPhone and produce remarkable sound quality despite being an open-air design.

Great headphones, but no volume control keeps them from perfection

I bought a set of these and Open Run headphones. These are much better for audio quality, comfort, and operability overall. But... the lack of volume control on the headphones themselves is a big downer, especially for my intended purpose of using them at work. This was a huge reason I liked the Open Run headphones, but they made me nauseous and the headband would hit everything, so they were annoying. It's a bit trivial, but if they could add a volume control I would be very satisfied with them. However, the volume of these headphones is not great when you're in a somewhat noisy environment and they're ineffective for anything outside a quiet office or low wind situation. The open fit headphones, on the other hand, are magnitudes more comfortable than the open run version. You can barely feel them when they're not streaming audio and the sound just sort of feels like it appears in your head out of thin air. It's pretty neat to experience!
