I've bought Keens in the past and also Merrills. Both brands are pretty comfortable right out of the box. My problem with both brands has been that the soles separate from the uppers due to failure of the glue. This new version of the Keen says they use a new bonding method instead of glue. Time will tell if they last better. But if they don't I know Keen customer service will replace them (as they've done in the past with previous purchases). Fingers crossed because these are very comfortable and good looking.

Damaged lace on arrival, REI doesn't care. Says "You can return and buy a new one (not on sale)", or do a warranty service through Keen. Alas, seems that customer service is not a priority for REI management.

Less comfortable over time

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These Keen boots started out feeling supportive and quite comfortable but after a week or so of daily wear, they started to cause pain in the tendons near the heel and a feeling of pressure/throbbing on the tops of the feet. The arch support remained good. They are a bit slippery on ice but not on the snow. Feet stay dry when the weather isn't great thanks to the water repellent features of these boots. They aren't too heavy and don't seem to mark up the floors even though the sole is black, which is a pleasant surprise.

I’m still breaking them in however, I’ve been wearing them often because we’ve been going fishing and hiking a lot. There’s so much Support as you walk. They’re very comfortable and overall just a very very good pair of boots that I know we’re gonna last me a very long time and I am very thankful I got to review them. I like them so much I plan on buying another pair of this brand, but in black if you want a really really good pair of hiking boots, these are the boots for you buy them!

Some points I wanted to call out : - The shoes weight ain’t too much and comfortable to wear right out the box - The rubber toe is very effective , has a lot of space and protects yours toe from any damage -The lacing system allows for a wide variety of fits in a singe shoe and is very sturdy. -The shoes are almost water proof, breathable and have a very good feel -The shoes have very decent arch support . -The shoes thread is very aggressive and makes it very effective during hiking in any terrain So far I am very impressed with the material and design and I am really looking forward to more hikes soon

Lightweight and best of all: WATERPROOF

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My partner decided to test these out and here’s what he had to say: “I love how light these boots are. Being from the PNW originally, waterproof boots are a must so the combo of lightweight and waterproof make these a great pair of boots. I’m not a huge fan of where the boots sit on my ankles. It’s like the boots can’t decide if they’re a high-top or a low-top. But that may just take some getting used to. Only thing I don’t know is how durable they are.” Y’all, he doesn’t realize these are gonna last for years! I’ve got the women’s version of the Targhee from a few seasons ago and I’ve put them through the wringer but they are still going strong. We love KEEN in this household!

Excellent hiking shoe!

He didn’t have to have a break-in period which is a huge plus, they were very comfortable right out of the box. They seem very durable and he’s super happy with the performance so far. Definitely a highly recommended shoe for those who like hiking and exploring the outdoors.
