For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

“I received these product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.” Lasportiva customer support is outstanding. The original boots ordered were a bit too small, they immediately sent me a new pair. I have purchased and worn several different hiking boots over the years and these are definitely near the top of my list, I’m actually going to order another pair. They are narrow, but I have narrow feet so they work well. They are comfortable, stable, rugged, but not bulky. For a solid/stout hiking boot, they seem light and the pull strap in the back is a good design. As with a good hiking boots, they have great support and are not overly flexible (I say that in a good way). Easy lacing system and quality toe guards. These are a very solid hiking boot! I would recommend these to anyone.
I wasn't sure where to place these. Hiking? Seasonal? Work? These are really a good middle/hybrid boot. The sole is a solid and nearly rigid piece that when paired with the rubberized seal and Gore Tex, makes them bombproof. The flexibility (yet supported) of the upper is what made me love boot. Great lacing system and tie into both the upper and lower. I hiked up and down a few hills and rock cliffs in the Marin Headlands this summer, and feel they will work well elsewhere. This last week, I ended up running down hill two miles and was fully supported by these. My only concern would be on slippery or wet rocks and trails. The lug pattern is not the thickest, but the softer Vibram sole may just make up for that and get grippy.
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. The fit was a little small but once I got everything settled felt pretty good.. I found the soles to be a little strange and felt like they were very flat while hiking/walking. I personally need a very level heel and this felt that way. I have an average arch and usually wear a different brand. The uppers were excellent. loved that they were waterproof too! The insoles were flimsy but I had to remove them and put in my orthotics so the thin insole situation was mitigated by that. All in all I am looking forward to trying these out further.
After hiking in these lightweight hiking boots on various terrains I have noticed many different characteristics that make up these boots. These boots are stiff and offer less give then other boots I have worn in the past, but a stiff boot is not a bad thing. A stiff boot means it can support your foot when you are hiking with a heavy pack on your back. The stiffness of these boots provides next to zero penetration of any sharpness when walking on sharp rocks, you feel like you are just walking on flat ground. Sometimes stiff boots just need to be broken in, to mold around your foot. Although these boots are stiff out of the box, they are very comfortable to hike in. With these boots being very comfortable you may think that they may sacrifice on their grip. If you think that you are wrong, these boots have Amazing grip. I walked on loose rocks, pine needles, dirt. In all these different ground conditions these boots performance was excellent. I never slipped once, or felt like I was going to fall. I do wish these boots had some reflective accents that would help others identify me when hiking at dusk or at night. But that is the only mark I would take off these boots.
Shoes seemed a little stiff on the first few miles, but then they seemed to get broken in. The shoe was very comfortable. The tread and grip was great (did a lot of walking on an inclined rock face and felt very sturdy. Waterproofing held up very well keeping my feet dry, without my feet feeling hot. Shoe was true to size.
I bought these for the Dolomites, where shattered sharp limestone and afternoon rain means your boots are always dealing with very rough trail conditions... plus are usually thoroughly wet by evening. They performed perfectly. That was a year ago, and so far after 600 plus miles are still in good shape, the tread is only about 30% worn. The sole rubber is great on wet rock. I liked them so much I bought 2 more pairs to keep in my closet. :)
Shoes are made extremely well. Amazing grip over wet surfaces and provides stability to ankles in uneven terrain. Protects feet from blisters and keeps them dry throughout a long day of hiking and camping.
I’ve been using the La Sportiva Men's TX4 Evo Mid GTX on a couple hikes, and here’s my take: Pros: 1. **Comfort**: The mid-height design offers solid ankle support while still allowing for good flexibility. Once broken in, they’re quite comfortable. I did find the ankle to be a little looser than preferred. 2. **Waterproofing**: The Gore-Tex lining does a fantastic job of keeping my feet dry, even in wet conditions. 3. **Grip**: The Vibram outsole provides excellent traction on various surfaces, from rocky trails to muddy paths. Not necessarily a big deal given most shoes on the market are comparable. 4. **Durability**: These boots are made from high-quality materials and have proven to be quite durable so far. La sportiva makes some quality gear, thats no doubt. **Cons:** 1. **Weight**: They’re a bit bulkier than some other hiking boots, which I noticed on longer hikes. 2. **Break-In Period**: There was a considerable break-in period before they felt truly comfortable. Out of the box I didn’t really like them, but after swapping insoles and giving them a few more hikes, I came around. 3. **Heat**: The waterproofing can make my feet feel a bit hot, especially on warmer days. This is a big deal to me. I’d probably only grab these if I knew the conditions would be wet/muddy. Otherwise I’m choosing something more breathable and a little less clunky. 4. **Ankle Fit**: The ankle area felt a bit looser than I’d prefer, which affected the overall support. They are supportive compared to trail runners, but I didn’t feel “locked in” with them. I think this added to making them feel clunky a bit. Certainly a me problem and would depend on your foot/ankle. Overall, these boots are a strong choice for hiking, offering great comfort and durability, but they might not be the best fit if you’re looking for something lighter or with a snugger ankle fit. Keep in mind that although they’re gore Tex and can keep you dry, they aren’t wonderful in hot conditions and will equally trap in some sweat.
The sizing of these are insane. I where an 11.5 but knew La Sportiva's tend to run small. I loved my TX5 and needed a new pair. The TX5 were 12 and so I ordered a 12. My toes were so cramped they felt like an 11. Returned and won't be back until they figure this out.
Outstanding! I have pushed this boot to the very max and then some and they stay together. I've scrambled with crampons with boot and stepped on them multiple times with crampons. They are stiff enough for them and soft enough to almost run in.
