Good, but not great.
First off, the DWR is really effective; to get the fold marks/wrinkles out of the new shorts I decided to wet them in the sink as it seemed unnecessary to wash them before wearing. The water just fully ran off. I had to mist them with a sprayer and work the water in with my hands to get them wet enough for the wrinkles to fall out. On that note, they wrinkle again very easily (folded in a gym bag or even just sitting around in them), but then the wrinkles tend to fall out after a little while so you only look like a mess for a short bit. For jeans/pants I wear a size 30 waist pant and sometimes need a belt. The sizing chart puts the size small at a 31 waist, but they’re a little tighter than I’d prefer; I’m slim at 5’11” and 150lbs, but these still manage to give me that adored muffin top effect. The cinch cord in them is utterly superfluous, but may come in handy when/if the elastic starts to stretch out. I find them to be a good length, landing ~2" above my knee. They have a flattering leg opening and are light-weight enough to be barely noticeable. I’m guessing that for the sake of mobility there is a little extra material in the rear, or maybe my butt is just too flat, but they do form a slight fold in the back just below the waist band when standing straight upright and they are a bit baggy in the behind. It’s not too bad though. I like that the pockets are sewn in at the side seam; that prevents the contents from hanging down under your thigh when you sit. In exchange for an internal coin/key pocket there is hidden flap pocket at the top entrance to the left side pocket; it’s big enough to fit my iPhone 12 mini with MagSafe wallet. I’m not entirely sure why so many brands put asymmetrical accessory pockets on the left when most of the population is right-handed though. I do wish there was a rear pocket too. Ultimately these are quality shorts that I suspect will last a long time. However, they don’t seem special enough to me to warrant the price. Thoughtful design elements are something I’ll pay extra for; like maybe a single “belt” loop to clip on a chalk bag or to loop a handkerchief through. The minimalist light-weight design makes these a good running/workout short where you don’t have much to carry and weight/coolness is of the utmost concern. For longer hiking outings I want shorts with a rear pocket for my wallet and would love a small thigh pocket (on the right-hand side), both with some sort of closure (e.g. zipper) so I’m confident about not losing important items if a find myself sideways.
Exceptional All-Purpose Short
I am always looking for an exceptional pair of multi-purpose shorts that can go from the trail to a casual afternoon hanging out with family or friends, so I recently picked up a pair of the Arc'teryx Incendo 9" shorts, and I couldn't be happier with the function, quality and overall look. These shorts are an absolute game-changer for my outdoor adventures. First off, the comfort level is off the charts. They are lightweight, the fabric feels soft against my skin and they don't make that annoying swooshing sound when you move. The stretchy material allows for unrestricted movement, whether I am hiking up a steep trail or scrambling over rocks and finally the elastic waistband with the adjustable drawcord ensures for a perfect fit everytime. What really sets these shorts apart are their breathability. Even during intense hikes in the warm and humid Texas weather, I never felt overheated or sweaty thanks to the excellent ventilation system. The mesh panels on the sides allow air to flow freely, keeping me cool and dry. When it comes to the pockets, I am someone who likes to keep my essentials like my phone and keys close at hand. I appreciate the thoughtful design of the pockets as they're strategically placed and spacious enough to hold my phone, keys, and snacks securely without weighing me down or risking fallout out. Overall, I highly recommend these shorts for any intense or leisure activity, however the reason for docking one star is due to the lack of color options and the cost, $100 is a big spend for a pair of shorts, not to say they are not worth it but I'd prefer to wait to see if they go on sale.
Nice shorts for running, hiking, and hanging out!
These shorts are lightweight, comfortable, and have some built-in stretch, which makes them ideal for walking, running, trail running, and other activities and sports. The sizing chart is accurate, and additionally the shorts have a very comfy elastic waistband with a drawcord that ensures a good fit across a range of waist sizes. Note that there are no rear pockets, but the two front pockets are spacious and made of a mesh fabric to keep them light and airy; in the left pocket, there is also an additional small hidden pocket, under a flap up near the waist, which is ideal for carrying a key (or key fob) or perhaps a bit of currency. So, if you plan to drive to a trail for a hike or run, it's easy to securely carry a car key and a little money, and the placement of the pocket will ensure that the item is secure and won't shift around. The shorts are very light, though, so putting much into the larger pockets will quickly make them drape weirdly, and the object(s) will bang against your leg if running or hiking vigorously. This is true of any light shorts like these, but worth mentioning. I'll note that these shorts are sooo comfortable that they are also great for just hanging around the house and working in the yard, especially on a hot day as they are very lightweight and airy. The color (mine are Black Sapphire) is inky but not quite black -- maybe not the best for visibility if you will be out and about in the dark, but easy to keep clean. All in all, these shorts are terrific, and have the high quality that I have come to expect from Arcteryx.
Almost perfect
The shorts fit well and don't bunch up like some do, especially when you run. The left side has a nice key sized pocket inside of the regular pocket. Both regular pockets are reasonably large and can fit a modern cell phone. The pockets are deep enough that your phone doesn't bounce out when you run. The strings are too short but adequate enough to tie. There's nothing reflective on it and there's no liner. They are more comfortable than expected and only need some longer strings and reflective stripes to be perfect.
Arc'teryx hits the Eboard scene
I received these from the REI trailblazers program in exchange for my honest review. Lightweight, breathable and comfortable. The pockets are accessible and they have a drawstring adjustable waist. I wore them for an electric skateboard group ride. They where perfect as it was in the 80's that day. These can fold up and disappear in a pack, they are that light!
Lightweight and breathable
I picked up the Arc'teryx Incendo 9" Shorts mainly for trail running, but they've quickly become my go-to for everything from hiking to traveling. The fabric is incredibly lightweight and dries fast, which is a lifesaver during long summer runs or humid hikes. The cut is comfortable, with enough length for coverage while still allowing great mobility. What I appreciate most is the subtle but effective design: the waistband stays put without digging in, and the zippered pocket keeps essentials secure without bouncing. It’s clear Arc'teryx paid attention to the details. These shorts strike the perfect balance between performance and comfort. Highly recommend for anyone who spends serious time outdoors.
Light and comfortable
I liked how light weight these shorts are. The drawstring snugs up nicely. The color is also true to the image provided. What I also liked is the the 2 larger fron pockets. One of these also has an inner pocket with elastic trim / over lap to hold a phone (Pixel 6 in my case). What I would have liked to give it the 5* would have been short liners, back pocket. and a small "snug" pocket or loop to hold a key. At the suggested price point. It could have those features. While being a bit pricey..These are otherwise fine shorts that fits right and fall just above the knee in my 5'10 ish height.
I’m very satisfied with the short.
They fit well, feel light, and I wear them while running without any burden. The quick-dry and moisture-wicking performance is great, and the black color is also practical and resistant to stains.

Great shorts!
I was lucky enough to try on the Incendo shorts before purchasing. I tried on the XL and thought that they would pass for a more loose/baggy fit and look. They were roomy, yet appropriately proportionate for a 9” short. I am 220 lbs, 5’11” (sz 36x30 pants) and always face the dilemma of choosing between XL & L sizes. I then tried on the L, and was pleasantly surprised that they fit extremely well. The waist size was perfect and comfortable, with some room for expansion; and the length, seat, and leg width was neither slim or wide. I would describe the fit as a classic form fit, with plenty of room for movement, while maintaining a clean athletic drape. I’m really happy with these shorts! For more size comparison, a majority of my Arcteryx jackets are XL with 1 being a L (Beta SL).
