Great shoe, very comfortable. I wore mine during my visit to antelope canyon and horseshoe bend and currently wearing them throughout the New York City Winter. Where I currently live
Your positive review truly made our day!
I’ve been doing overnight hiking & camping trips in some of the most difficult areas at Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest for the past eight years. Never have I had a better experience than this past one when I bought these shoes. We received over an inch and a half of rain, but it was no issue for these shoes. I accidentally submerged them a few times while performing run-off creek crossings, and my feet remained dry. The traction in loose conditions was good, as was the breathability. I did weeks of research on multiple brands before pulling the trigger on buying these, and I am pleased with my decision. I highly recommend them to anyone else, too!
Thank you for your fantastic feedback, Bill!
These shoes are comfortable, have decent traction, live up to the waterproof promise, and hike pretty well. But their durability is questionable. I've put a couple hundred miles of trail hiking on them and the soles are starting to delaminate. I'm hoping that it was just a bad batch and if I replace them, the next pair will be better. But this pair is going back to REI. The only other slight ding is that they could use a better heel hold system. If I tie them tight enough to hold my heel back on downhills, they pinch a bit at the tie point. Not a deal breaker by any stretch, and I haven't had any real issues, but just a critique. FWIW, I added a pair of cork SOLE insoles and it made them much more stable and comfortable for longer hikes. Definitely a worthwhile addition to these shoes (or any performance shoe, for that matter). I have a wide size 10 foot and the 10W fit better than any other light hiker, trail running shoe I've tried.
I bought the Hiking Boot for a trip to Peru and a 7 day hike of around 4-8 miles of moderate hiking a day. I bought them 2 weeks before the trip and wore them around the house and general day walking of less than 3 hrs a day. The shoes felt fantastic on and broke in really easy. The problem came on the trip. 4 days into the hike I noticed the toe flap starting to separate and a gap forming between the 2 molds on the arch side of the shoe. After the complete trip, I noticed the Arch of both shoes have collapsed. I am 6'0 and about 230lbs, and flat footed so I am hard on arches either way. The problem is, this is a 2-3 week old shoe with little mileage compared to my other hikers. I have attached pictures. Again, the shoes were comfortable, broke in nicely and the waterproofing worked fine. They are light and I found them breathable but the construction was a severe disappointment at this price range. I am hoping Merrell will help with this problem

First let me say I loved these boots. Lightweight and waterproof they were perfect for my morning walk - mostly concrete sidewalks and metaled / gravel graded trails with occasional uneven ground. Lacing was good - I didn't experience failures of the lacing points like I have with other boots. They arrived almost exactly a year before this review and I used them perhaps three hours per week - so around 150 hours wear, possibly 500 miles walked. Recently the uppers started to separate from the soles adjacent to the MTP joint. Both boots are failing. Before failing I would rate them five stars. After failure, three stars. Great if you only need them for a short time, they are not made to last. With the level of wear on the soles, this may be OK - it's close to time to replace them.
We appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
I bought these because of how well the shoe version was doing but I have found that the design of these boots is causing me great discomfort where the lace point and fold of the tongue meet. I have used the the Moab 2 tacticals for years with no issues so I didn’t even think twice about buying these. For me I am greatly disappointed and now have a pair of boots that I spent $$$! That I will never wear.
I've had these for a year. Bought them for warm weather shooting matches. While super comfortable, they're not built very durable. Soles are delaminating, and stitching is coming apart on both shoes. My 1st hike 9 miles with them, I had stitching coming apart. Definitely not a daily wear shoe. For the money, there's better options out there.
Great fit, especially in the wide width for my EE feet. Light and comfortable for hiking. I proved their waterproof-ness as well. I really wanted to love these shoes - and I did. Until I didn't. These just didn't live up to expectations. Hopefully it was just this pair, maybe a certain production run. The soles started to delaminate after a couple months and a few hundred miles of hiking. I think I'm going to exchange them for a pair of slightly more robust Merrells. The fit is so perfect. I added some Sole cork footbeds to them. The added support really made a difference.
I bought this boots around 3 weeks ago. This is my second pair. My first were the water proof Moab 3. I love the new color merrell came out with. The fit feels great. No issues. The workmanship is Perfect
Thank you for your excellent review!
I have the Moab Speed 2 Thermo for winter hiking and they are the best winter hiking boots I've ever had. So, I thought I would give these a try for summer hiking. First, they were so comfortable right out of the box, I didn't need to break them in at all. They are very lite weight and breathable. They are very good, but could be better. The Thermo version have 6mm lugs, these only have 4mm lugs, 6mm would be better. As i mentioned they are very comfortable and have outstanding cushion and shock absorption. But, I am a heavier individual and after only three short 4 mile hikes, I can already start to feel the stones under my feet. Double the cushioning and give them 6mm lugs and these will be perfect!
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.
