Biking Great...Walking Disaster

Start with the positives, great on a pedal, super grippy and strong, can get the power down and never feel they will slip off. Fairly light and breathable, feet are not a sweaty mess like with the Sleuth. As for the negatives, useless in anything but dry conditions, do not shed mud and turn into slippers almost instantly. Bought for combo bike and walking, in the wet they are all over the place, even in non muddy conditions and rocks and boulders you will soon be on your backside. If you have to push your bike up a muddy incline then just forget it, go round, no chance of your foot staying planted. No good for UK conditions. Need to find out how I can return!

Lovely dry weather riding shoes

I wear Five tens when mountain biking (got many pairs now) and these Trailcross ones are nice and grippy when using flats - just as you would expect. They're nice and light, look great and the fit is perfect for me. However... I ride in the UK and there's often mud and water on the trails. The 'Breathable mesh' on the toe of these lets any water straight in resulting in wet feet. Really not great. They're also a bit of a pain to clean once clogged with mud. Definitely summer only shoes. I also have the Gore Tex version which are flippin' brilliant. Have kept my feet warm and dry throughout the winter.

Absolute great summer shoe

I have about 50 rides and 500 miles on these and I’ve absolutely loved them. More comfortable and less skater looking than many 510 offerings but with their great rubber these are almost a perfect shoe. Initial discomfort around the ankle bones went away pretty quickly. Really about my only warning is that the toe is so super breathable, that it’s not a cold weather shoe or even something you want to splash through water with cuz it just pours right through to your sock. Great for heat, bad for water\cold. Nice toe box too, which is really important on a biking shoe. Hoping for some new colors in 2021, I’d grab another pair for sure.

Least comfortable shoe I have bought in 20 years

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very uncomfortable shoes. I have narrow feet so I've never had this happen before. But the toe box compresses and pinches my feet even as I walk (never mind run). Additionally, any buyer should know that under the insole is a very VERY had piece of plastic that runs the entirety of the shoe. I'm sure this is meant for some sort of stability. But it just results in an inflexible shoe and very stiff sole with every step. Overall, I can't think of a shoe I have purchased in the last 20 years that is less comfortable. My leather work shoes are more comfortable. I'd regretfully NEVER go running or even walking in these shoes.

Really comfortable

I have had the waterproof version of the Five Ten Trailcross Mid shoe for a few years, and decided to get the low-top version for summer. I've been wearing Freeriders for many years, but it seems like the toebox has gotten narrower in recent years and even when I go up a half size they are still unpleasantly tight. The Trailcrosss seems to have a roomier toe box area while still fitting my narrow heels well. I normally wear a women's size 8 but I decided to get these in men's 6.5 in the hopes they'd be a bit wider. They fit me perfectly. I wish other styles of Five Tens were offered with a wider toe box.

They come up a size too big

Hard for me to judge how they feel on the trail as i never got to ride in them. THESE SHOES ARE BIGGER THAN THE SIZE SAYS! Im a 9.5 in every shoe i own. Ordered these in a size 9.5 (stupidly with my name personalised on the side so i was unable to get a refund) and they came up probably a size too big. Would definitely recommend going a half size down if your ordering. I ended up getting some Freeriders instead from Go outdoors where you can actually try on 510s confusingly sized shoes and they are great. Gave 4/5 stars as they look great. Were grippy to pedals, super breathable. But sizing let them down.

Unreal Grip

Bought these to replace my old and worn walking trainers I used for my mountain bike. They had a sticky sole and I thought they gripped quite well to my flats, that is until I wore these trainers on my first ride last weekend. 28 miles in cold British weather close to freezing and my feet felt welded to the pedals. They took me a good couple of miles to get used to so little foot movement but I’m now wasting so much less energy when peddling. The trainers also feel well built and made not as a fashion accessory but more for actually doing what you want them to do- be great for cycling. Great shoes.

So glad I got these shoes!

I'm so happy that I finally got mountain bike shoes. I have been mountain bike for a few years and I always wore my Vibram Five Fingers because I hated all other shoes I tried. The 510 trailcross shoes are awesome! It took me a bit to get used to the stiffness and hardness since I am used to barefoot shoes. But, I think these are way better for biking in and give me more power too. I do think they are a bit narrow, but that is because I am used to barefoot shoes. These are men's sizes so I just sized down to match what would be a women's size. I like the colors in these better than the womens.

Great shoes. Wrong time of year.

These are fantastically constructive shoes that are very comfortable to wear. Unfortunately with a design that allows water to pass in and out also makes for a very hairy shoe at this time of year. I find them very cold to wear in the UK I will probably only use them during the summer months. Still, they are comfortable and very nice to wear.

All style

This shoe, perfect for summer adventures and bike rides, steals the show with its sleek design and perfect fit. But be careful in Sweden's winter landscape! Its hard rubber sole turns every snowy walk into a slippery and laughter-inducing experience. Remember, even though they look fantastic, you might not want to risk a hip replacement!
