Works better than not having a tuning fork
Trying to straighten a slightly bend rotor is always playing with fire, so I was hoping a rotor tuning fork might help quell the flames a bit and if that is the standard, it did that compared to not using a special tool for it. Maybe I am just personally not very good at straightening rotors or (more likely) it is just hard to get it exactly right, but it was still a struggle. Admittedly less of a struggle with the this tuning fork. It is made of materials that feel solid and will last so that is good as well. It would have been helpful if it maybe had some tips and tricks printed on the packaging though.
Great rotor tool with bonus brake tool
This Feedback Sports Rotor Truing Tool 2.0 is great for truing a wide variety of rotors and problems. There are two shallow slots (2.3mm and 2.0mm wide) and then one long slot (2.0mm). The shallow slots are great for the minor truing issues and the long slot is great for those times you need a little more leverage and have a big bend. It feels like the tool is made of metal with molded nylon on the work areas. As a result, the tool feels appropriately hefty, but is also easy to hold without any concerns of scratching or damaging rotors (or nearby spokes). This tool made quick work of small bends on a couple of different rotors (180mm and 160mm). There are also two circle holes in the middle of the tool for making storing on pegboards very easy. As a bonus, the end by the long 2.0mm slot is angled so you can use it to gently push back hydraulic brake calipers. This rotor tool is a great companion for any disc brake mechanic and is small enough to go into a handlebar bag. If you're looking for a multi-purpose disc brake tool, this is a great option!
Nice Tool
To start off, I usually replace my bike brake rotors if they get slightly out of true. Once they start making the sink sink sink sounding noise as they spin I replace them. It costs over $60 bucks to replace the rotor I use…now double it for 2 to be even. With this rotor truing tool I am testing it on slightly out of true rotors that got replaced. Hand feel: I like that the tool has no sharp edges and a good hand weight balance feel. Use: Using rotors that were a little out of true, I installed them back in my mountain bike wheelset they were originally on. I was able to straighten the rotors to a usable condition. The different opening sizes let me use the right wide for my brakes. It does have the 2mm width opening, which in my opinion you can check if your rotors are less than 2mm width for safety guidelines of use. Your minimum brake thickness will vary from vendor to vendor. I was able to put the tool on the rotor and the rotor spokes to help re-true the rotor. Be careful on how much you have to push, twist, bend to true the rotors. A little bit of force goes a long way. Give a little trueing and spin using your brake pads as a guide line to make sure a relatively smart gap exists on both sides of the rotor.
Compact and Sturdy
I was quite surprised how such a small bike tool could be so effective. It’s incredibly sturdy and well designed allowing you to access the rotor comfortably. I used the small side for smaller adjustments and used the longer side to get more towards the center. My mountain bike has disc brakes have been complaining for a while. I used a head lamp to eyeball the adjustments. I was out camping so didn’t have a bike stand, just flipped the bike over.
Compact but functional tool
Used the tool to straighten front and rear disc brake rotors on a bicycle that had been shipped to me in a box. Rotors probably were bent in transit. I already had the Park Tool so this was an opportunity for an interesting comparison. Compared to the Park tool, this Feedback Tool has an additional slot for what must be thicker rotors. While it doesn't have the heft of the Park tool, it is more compact so might be handy for anyone wanting to pack and carry along on extended rides.
Banish Bent Brake Rotors
There is nothing quite so annoying as riding a bike with a stray squeak, rattle, hum, or creak. So, having the periodic sound of a rubbing brake becomes tantamount to water torture. Faced with that situation, any cyclist of suitable industry has the bike up in the repair stand to diagnose the rub immediately...and surely experiences a sinking of the heart to find the culprit is a bent or warped brake rotor. In this regular bike commuter's opinion, bent rotors are the Gordian Knot of bike maintenance, and the only solution seems to be to channel Alexander the Great, take out your Torx driver, and cleave that rotor from the bike. (How do rotors warp, anyway? Annoying.) Or, so was the case before trying the Feedback Sports Rotor Truing Fork 2.0. With the proper tool in hand, re-truing rotors with a slight warp is no longer a Sisyphean task. The tool is strong with good heft and balance in the hand, and unlike other truing forks is molded of nylon over a steel core, which means it is very durable, but won't scratch or mar the rotor or other components it comes in contact with. There are a few different slots to accept varying rotor thicknesses, as well as change the amount of leverage applied. This is a great item to slip into your portable toolkit, as the compact design won't take up much real estate. Overall, this tool is a pleasure to use.
Fine Rotor Truing Fork
I used the truing fork on my e bike in my garage. Did the job. It is made of plastic mainly, however, I did not feel on a few goes at truing the plastic is flimsy. Product is solid and compact, no extra components its one piece.
