LOVE THIS CHAIR

This chair isn't for the ultralight throu hikers, it is a bit heavier than other chairs you can get. If you're a weekend warrior like myself, just looking to spend 2 or 3 nights on the trail, then it's amazing!! It's like a lazy boy recliner. I'm a big guy 6'4, 245 and this thing feels rock solid. I used to have the just sit on a log mentality, but you know what? That mentality can suck it. I wish i had gotten a chair years ago!! Buy this thing!

Broke on first night - return not accepted
Dimitri
I'll start off by saying that this chair is quite comfortable, and the underquilt makes it that much better. However, I wasn't able to enjoy it very long. I used this chair for the first time the weekend that I bought it. A friend sat down in the chair and one of the aluminum bars simply bent and snapped right where it connects to the base. Mind you, this wasn't a body slam in the chair that caused this, and my friend only weighs about 170lbs. He sat down normally, just like anyone would. I took it in and explained that it broke literally on the first use and REI wouldn't accept the return. Quite disappointed to say the least To save it I had to go to the hardware store, buy pipe, get the pipe cut, slightly modify the base to accept the new pipe, and re-run the elastic band through the pipe. Oh well, the chair works again now that I fixed it, but pretty ridiculous for it to break on the first use and be denied a return.

Worth it on and off trail

Light weight and easy to use. I brought it with me on a hike and kept it accessible to take out easy and quickly for breaks or for lunch. Only complaint is it IS bulky, took a whole side of my outside pocket on my bag.

Best Chairs Ever

We like to be comfy when we camp, so we also have the camp dreamer and the antigravity chairs we haul along, but these are the chairs I always have in the trunk of my car. For sitting emergencies, of course. I recently found myself needing to stay the night in the hospital with my daughter. The hospital guest chair was awful (the worst), so I grabbed this puppy and set it up next to her bed. I pulled over the terrible hospital chair, and used it like an ottoman (shoes not on it, of course). And that is how I came to spend the night sleeping in a flexlite boss chair. I wasn’t even sore the next morning. So there you go. Thanks, REI.

A downgrade from the Flexlite Macro

Bought a couple Flexlite Camp Boss Chairs for my family after already owning a Flexlite Macro, which I love. The description of the Camp Boss mentioned improvements to the Macro design, but I will disagree overall. No noticeable changes in the frame, and still easy to assemble/disassemble. However, the fabric seat design has three downgrades: 1) it fits the frame very tightly, so is harder to assemble than the macro and takes some muscle, and the frame wants to pop out of the pole sockets; 2) the two "new" relief openings in the seat are a challenge to keep the gluteus area of your body from sticking through; 3) the valuable pockets on the sides have been deleted.

Very easy to assemble sturdy chair

I have the flexlite chair chair and this Camp Boss one is a sturdier version of that. It's bigger (obviously a bit heavier) and feels more durable and stronger. It's also bigger than the origina flexlite which makes its angle a bit strange. It feels like you're sort of leaning back but need a neck support if you would be able to really relax that way. The photo compares the two with the camp boss on the right.

Awesome Chair!!! Also.. I have an idea!!!

You don't need to convince me that this is the best camp chair REI has ever made.. because it is!! As a bigger guy, It's nice to have a bigger chair, that's still pretty lightweight. Ok now for my idea!! I love backpacking, and I love bringing a chair. Currently I've been using the Chair Zero Large from Helinox, which is fine.. but it's no Camp Boss. I think REI has a prime opportunity to capitalize in this space.. hear me out... "The Camp Boss Air".. kind of like the Flexlite Air.. but with the bigger dimensions of the Camp Boss!! How GREAT would that be!!? An ultralight chair for us bigger peeps!! Please make my dream come true!!

Good for Field Recording

I use this chair in my field recording setup. It's easy to setup and breakdown, and has a good carrying case. It's pretty low to the ground. It's also kind of long. It's also medium lightweight. I think there are lighter chairs out there, but this one is sturdy and has been used a lot, with no signs of wear and tear. My only complaint is that when you're using this in fall, winter, and even early spring camping there's no underquilt available for this chair, so it's super cold. I can't take a blanket with me field recording and they used to sell an underquilt to this chair, but no longer do. Just keep that in mind if you're going to be camping or using in colder conditions.

Comfy, cheap, but a little wobbly

The chair itself is very comfy. Especially for being 2 pounds. It took me a few days to get comfortable with really sitting in it, but now I’m confident it won’t break. The forward and back movement in negligible however the lateral movements sways a little. Again I don’t think it’ll break, but it takes some time to gain confidence in the chair.

Very comfortable chair

I am very happy with the chair. I have been looking for a chair like this for a while. One of the features that I like most about the Camp Boss Chair is the seat height. Many of these chairs are so low to the ground that they are difficult to get out of, not so with this one. The fabric is robust with little stretch and provides great support. I am looking forward to putting an underquilt on it to keep me warm in the cooler weather. The only complaint that I have is that the poles aren't very compact. I would like to see a system where they nest a little better. This chair sits firmly in the middle ground between the ultralight flimsy backpacking chairs and the heavy bulky car camping chairs. It isn't so heavy that you won't take it backpacking and it's easy to always throw in on a car camping trip.

Awesome Chair

This chair is so comfortable! I am in my 60's and I am a larger woman. While I do work out daily, I was concerned with whether I would be uncomfortable getting into a lower profile reclining chair. This chair is fairly easy to get up from and great to sit in. I read the reviews for the Flexlite and other similar chairs and then watched a YouTube video with an engineering based comparison - the Flexlite's leg cross support direction - front to back as compared to the competition's side to side cross support direction make's a great deal of difference in my comfort and confidence in the Flexlite chair. I can feel Flexlite's support when I sit down. Also a shout out to "Miranda in the Wild" where I first saw the Flexlite chair in use.
