Great setup for just about any carry on traveler

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For quite a while I have traveled with a 40L backpack. I used a rolling duffel carry on recently and really liked having the wheels to stack my wife’s backpack on the trolly handle. I also liked the soft side that the duffel offered. After a bit of looking around for a rolling duffel I found this set. The additional day pack is a great size. I have an 8L sling that is OK, but doesn’t hold enough items for two people. The day pack is plenty of space for a couple of water bottles, some mid-layers, and more. It has a small “padded” pocket (the only real padding is the foam on the back panel of the pack, but I’m not using it to protect that way) that my tablet fit in perfectly for the flight. There is a nice big mesh pocket on the front of the bag that I used to stuff a shaker cup in. The stash pocket on the inside of the bag took a beating (2 phones, 2 passports, wallet, reading glasses, at the same time!) and held up really well. It’s mesh and expanded more than I thought it would. There is also something about the way the day pack is stitched (this can be seen from the outside of the pack) around the stash pocket that seems to allow it to have extra space. The bags are made of a durable material that I like the look and feel of. It’s easy to get into and the soft sides make it easy to pack a lot into the bag. The wheels roll well and are nice and big, making it easier to manage on rough or uneven terrain. The day pack attaching to the rolling bag was another reason I was attracted to the set. The “foot” of the rolling bag extends to balance the weight of the day pack. I like the idea if I need to walk on a gravel road. The daypack also has a configuration to attach to the backpack straps on the front of your body. This keeps your personal items very handy. Here’s where it gets a little tricky. The trolly handle is a “single pole” or “T-shaped”. For the casual traveler this is probably ok. My original thought was that this setup would allow me to carry all four items (this roller, the day pack, my wife’s backpack on the trolly handle, and her personal item/backpack on my back). This did work, with some concessions. The backpack would slide around the single pole. We also tried he carrying her personal item on the trolly handle and it was the same issue, not as pronounced because it isn’t as wide as her carry on. If the trolly handle were a “double pole” or “TT-shaped” her backpack would not be able to slide. I was able to make it work by holding both the backpack handle and the trolly handle to keep it steady. After a while it starts to become uncomfortable. This is a small technical detail, and probably not a supported configuration for this bag. Additionally, the day pack straps can get a little rough-itchy in hot weather, when against skin. Overall, the setup is great. I highly recommend this set to anyone that is trying to get into carry on only travel.

Gear Warrior XE 2-Wheel Convertible Carry-On Luggageon

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This will be my fourth convertible for my wife and me. It replaces one I’ve had for about twenty-five years. The wheels are worn down to little plastic nubs. Next time I’m in the states I will send it in for new wheels; the bag is still in great condition. These bags cover all the bases and I’ve had to use the backpack function in some remote areas where rolling or carrying the bag was not an option, or when rolling it up and down curbs and sidewalks is inconvenient. The bags make sense. The bag is in Denver…I’ll pick it up next time we’re there.

Some nice features, does not hold up during use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used Eagle Creek products for years, and generally love them, and I was excited about the concept of this bag. It is a nice size and worked well for a three week trip to Europe, but the day pack didn’t hold up at all. On first use, the mesh started wearing with little holes throughout (and I was careful to only use it for soft items and a water bottle, so it wasn’t due sharps poking through. I’m disappointed with how it held up after the one trip. Attached photos are after one trip. I haven’t even had the bag for a year.

Could be better

Sturdily constructed EXCEPT for the flimsy tie downs and handle bar liner. Dimensions are misleading - overall length is measured to the wheel base. But the pack itself is almost an inch shorter. NO way can you cram 60 liters in the expanded mode. If an airline is stringent on carryone requirments this bag might not cut it. The stowaway backpack straps bulge out when zipped

I love Eagle Creek, but this bag is disappointing.

I used a prior Eagle Creek bag for probably two decades. I loved it, but the base was damaged and Eagle Creek couldn't repair it. They gave me a generous credit towards another bag and I used it to purchase this. The description says it can hold 50 liters when expanded. I think not. This bag holds less than my old one -- a bag that travelled in the cabins of airplanes all over the world. It's also structured so the opening is strangely narrow, making packing more difficult. I'm so disappointed that this one is so much less useful than my beloved prior one.

Don’t waste your money

Cheap design and nothing like the sturdy older versions. I have an older eagle creek carry in bag with backpack that is starting to show its age. I decided to get this as a replacement and am not impressed at all. The luggage is soft textile that will not protect your belongings. Additionally, the backpack attaches with straps. My older model backpack zips to the luggage and is made of sturdier material. They need to go back to the old bags because these are garbage.

Very good but not perfect

I ordered this bag about one year ago and have used it several times for international travel. In general, it is not my primary luggage but it comes in very handy and is quite versatile. The bag has lots of storage space and plenty of compartments with nice features. My only grievances with this bag are that the zippers can be finicky sometimes (difficult to open/close) and the detachable, smaller backpack is cumbersome to attach to the main bag. As a backpack, the bag is not particularly comfortable but it serves its purpose. Nevertheless, the bag's versatility and ample storage convince me to use it for most trips. I highly recommend this bag.

Good bag with a couple of tweaks

I really liked this bag and wanted to keep it. There are a couple of design flaws, which meant I returned. The main one is that there is an opening where the handle slides into the bag, meaning that your clothes, etc, are exposed. This was the main reason I returned the bag. I also thought the straps were too bulky and it would be better if they were detachable. This would free up some packing space and give you the option if you felt you needed the straps. Otherwise, I liked the bag. I thought it was well-constructed with durable materials and match what I was looking for. I just didn’t want my clothes exposed because of the handle.

A good easy to travel bag

It travelled well however the back pack is difficult to get into. I think the top should open wider so it eleimates the digging for stuff. I did not like the packing around the metal bar inside. I had an older version and loved it although it was stolen from my rental car in Key West Florida. So I replaced with this upgrade. The older was easier to access but required locking the zippers together to keep it safe. This one hooks under the tab so would be difficult for a thief. So its a trade off. Overall a great bag and if it lives as long as the other I will be delighted as I had the other 20 years and it travelled many miles.

I was only able to

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was only able to do one trip with the whole pack and it's great. The small backpack is great as well for the size. I use it everyday. Great materials and construction, enough pockets to carry anything .The small backpack has side mashed pockets. It could go 2inches higher or have another strap for my 1liter big and tall water bottle. It fits. But bigger than that, it seems difficult to manage. Takes a little to get used with only 2 wheels when you normally have a 4 wheel carry on. But the compact size and thought all terrain wheels you can easily pull it up and overcome any floor and narrow spots.
