The best Watch that Garmin has ever made. 51mm

This is the best combination of all features that Garmin has ever put together. I got the 51mm Sapphire pro. This is an outstanding watch without any compromises. I run, walk and hike. This is the best hiking watch that I have ever used. The tracking is quick, accurate and very easy to follow. I loaded a course and it was easy to follow with such a great screen. I have all GPS bands on and did a 2 hrs walk hike. It used 5% of the battery. Wow! The watch has a beautiful screen, excellent construction and the most advanced features that any athletic watch. The GPS is precise. I walked at a 45 degree angle across the street. I went back at a 25 degree angle. I made sure I was next to trees when I crossed. Using the Garmin connect app. The tracking had me at exactly the precise location next to the tree. I was very impressed. The screen is more colorful and Brighter than my Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 pro. That says a lot. Negative: This is not a Smart Watch. If this was. It would be the best-selling watch available. Take note Garmin. This watch tells you notifications of calls and emails. That is helpful. It does not allow you to respond, take calls or communicate with the caller. It does not have LTE connection. I have to have one Smartwatch (Samsung Galaxy S5 Pro) for calls, emails and connections. The other my Beautiful Garmin Epix 2 Pro for tracking and hiking. I highly recommend the Epix 2 Pro to anyone interested in the best Athletic sports watch.

I love the watch, especially the flashlight. It's incredibly convenient to have a flashlight on your wrist any time you need it. The UI is OK, but seems a little antiquated (due for a update). I came from exclusively using Samsung watches and they integrate better with Android devices; especially Samsung phones. I'm disappointed that the notification are very limited. So for example, if the watch doesn't recognize an app, you'll receive the notification as a text message, rather than a, notification with you app's icon. Why does this matter? Well, if you're looking at your missed notifications, everything looks like an unread text message, rather a notification from the app. Some apps register normally, like Facebook but YouTube notifications show up as text messages. My banking app sends a notification after a charge has been made, but the notification doesn't show up on my watch (just a blank text message). It worked flawlessly on my Samsung watch, so it's not the app. There are some features that don't work, like the alarm set on my phone; it doesn't communicate with the watch. There's no microphone on the watch, so you cannot answer calls on the watch or do voice-to-to-text to respond to messages. In fact, you cannot create custom replies at all, unless done through the phone. So, for the most part, you'll need to pull your phone out to reply to text messages... Which kind of defeats the purpose of having a smart watch. I understand for some people this may not matter, but imo, it's missing important features that are offered by watch less than half the price... Quick note, like all smart watches, if you have tattoos, be aware that the sensors don't work well with them (or sometimes at all). I've found a workaround, so the heart rate sensor still can do its job but the SP02 sensor doesn't work, and I don't trust the HRV results. TDLR; Pros - Flashlight, GPS (tried it on a trail, down in a canyon (without cell service) and it worked flawlessly). Well made, battery life is awesome and I was really impressed with all the data it collected during my hike. The red shift is a very underrated feature. Cons - Notifications suck (kinda). UI needs work and can be complicated to navigate (especially the settings). No microphone, no custom text message replies (unless preset in advance) or calls..or music (unless you use ear buds). The map is works, but again, update the icons; it's 2023, not 1998. Wrist band is subpar. Very few watch faces available to download and very limited apps available. They should focus on better integration and communication between their OS and the device's OS. And, if nothing else, plz add a timestamp to the notifications. I don't know that I'd consider it a smart watch, but it will get you back home; even if it's dark outside.

Fantastic watch

I guess I am a Garmin junkie as well as a watch guy. I have a bunch. Got my first Garmin 6X solar 51mm as a gift in 2020. Loved it after seeing them and wanting to get one, but held off because it was advertised and still is advertised as a fitness watch. Although I work out I never track my routines. In early 2022 I got the Fenix 7X Solar 51mm. Then September 3rd 2023 I got the Garmin epix Pro Gen 2 Carbon gray Sapphire Edition 51mm. And then week later got the Garmin epix Pro Gen 2 Titanium w/ Whitestone Band 51mm. I do not use any of the features this fine watch has to offer. I just like these Garmin's because they are big, great battery life and look great on my wrist.

Worth it! If you use it

This is a fantastic watch, it has so much capabilities, that if you use it for what it’s attended for and more, you will be very satisfied. I used to have an Apple Watch and thought that I really needed the call function, but when I thought about it, I don’t actually use my Apple Watch to call people or answer calls. So does Garmin watch was actually perfect. The battery lost anywhere from 8 to 30 days and still get the bright screen display, definitely recommend this watch over the Apple Watch. If you’re active and you take the time to learn how to use the watch. It can be a little technical in the beginning, but once you get it, just like anything else, it becomes very user-friendly

Tough Device with Super Powers

Purchased this watch about a month ago. My initial attraction to it was the battery life, most smart watches last about 24 to 36 hours before requiring charging. This implies that I needed to carry a charger on trips, who needs that if your on a weekend camping adventure! My two-year-old smartwatch had a battery that wasn't hold a charge for more than eight hours, and the manufacturer wanted more to replace the battery than what I paid for the watch! So, I started my hunt. Per recommendation by outdoor enjoying friends I started with Garmin. But the clincher was I had just invested in an InReach MINI 2 and found out it integrated with some of the Garmin watches. The decision on my EPIX PRO came from YouTube videos comparing EPIX and FENIX Garmin products. None of them duplicated all the features of my current watch, in particular, I can't answer my phone. I was willing to give up the phone feature for the battery-life feature. The EPIX has most all of the other features, but some came with a functional twist. The EPIX also had added benefits in the navigation area that my old watch did not. The icing-on-the-cake is the InReach integration of the MINI 2. The learning curve is steep. Garmin needs to do a better job on producing How-To Videos for these devices. Some of the confusion comes from the multiple ways to get to the same functions, why not just one menu and one quick access favorites menu? So, I'm spending a lot of time on YouTube learning. The biggest reason for four and not five star rating is the notification system. If I receive a text, or if an alarm goes off, the watch vibrates and make a tiny-soft sound. I now miss 80% of my notifications! The watch needs a louder sound mechanism, this is a big issue with me, but not a deal killer because of all the other features. I need to hear my alarms and know when I have new notifications come in. The marketing info you see in advertisements are accurate otherwise. The display is bright, crisp, and clear. This was important for me because of my poor eyesight. Even the navigation maps are easy to read. The watch faces are very customizable. The touch screen works as it should, and the pushbuttons have a nice tactile feel. I am still learning how to use this watch to its fullest, and I am already happy. And did I mention it also works with the Garmin Varia bike radar? Another plus! Linking up with the MINI 2 and Varia was effortless and successful on the first try. My conclusion at this point is yes, there are big features I gave up (Phone answering and loud audible notifications), but great advantages keep me happy (battery life, display, device integration, navigation features). I would recommend this watch for any outdoors enthusiast and workout enthusiast who enjoy utilizing high tech approaches. A note about battery life, the watch saves power by turning off its display and GPS when not needed. If you use the navigation feature while hiking, running, biking, you will notice you've lost a day or two of battery life depending how long your GPS activity lasted.

Amazing watch!!

This watch is exactly what I wanted. I upgraded from a 945 to the Epix pro Gen 2 47mm and don’t regret it. I can easily go 12 days without charging my watch and I use the GPS almost every day for running (full charge shows 16 days). You will save a ton of battery life by not having the display always on. Really enjoy the new metrics and am a fan of the UI not being super fancy like the 965. It’s rugged and the titanium w/whitestone along with my my dark sandstone band looks great!

Incredible watch!

I bought this just over two weeks ago and im absolutely in awe with this watch. Made the switch from an Apple watch and incredibly happy with my decision. All the data available to me, familiarizing myself with garmins health science, and putting this bad boy to use has brought me great joy. Looking forward to all the future activities with this watch on my fitness journey and everyday life

Good

The Garmin Epix Gen 2 Sapphire is a solid watch overall. The AMOLED display is sharp and vibrant, and the titanium bezel with the sapphire crystal gives it a premium feel. Battery life is impressive, especially considering the always-on display option. GPS accuracy is on point, and the health tracking features work great, whether it’s heart rate, sleep tracking, or SpO2 monitoring. My only real complaint is the watch face selection—it’s pretty lacking. For a high-end watch like this, I expected more variety and better designs. Other than that, it’s a great watch that does everything you’d want from a high-performance fitness smartwatch.

The gold standard in fitness tracking!

I had an apple watch ultra and used it to track my fitness and lap times (I race motocross and use the lit pro app for lap tracking). After reading a recent review from lit pro on smart/fitness watches, they ranked the garmin as the top watch for accuracy. I bought a garmin epix pro 2 51mm to test against my AWU. The garmin is amazing. More accurate and I feel that it gives you more accurate health info too. Battery life is incredible too! I gave my wife the AWU and kept the garmin. If you take fitness and accuracy seriously get a garmin!

Best watch I have owned yet

I have had this watch approx 2 weeks now and it does everything so well. I started out with an Apple Watch Series 3. I had to charge it daily which was the first issue, second it was very mediocre at best. It was convenient though because I have apple everything. Well, two weeks into this Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 and I can’t believe I didn’t make the switch sooner. It does have 31 days of battery life which is AMAZING, but the sleep tracking, body battery are worth it right there. Then when you look at the maps and navigational capabilities, this is like nothing I’ve owned before. 10/10! You won’t be disappointed!

Wonderful Fantastic Watch!!

I have had the Epix Gen 2 for about a month now. I have owned so many Garmin’s starting with the Forerunner 201 (which I still have and it works!) Fenix 5, 6, 7 and I have loved them all but I love the Epix the most!! It gives me great information that is helpful and useful. I love the bright colors on the display for work outs. It has more workouts than any Garmin I have ever owned. I use it to run, walk, and many different gym workouts! Best Garmin ever!!
