Add this multi-use folding knife to your kit!
The Coast DX330 serrated folding knife fits perfectly into my pants pocket or my backpack when I'm hiking. It's lightweight, fits my hand well, and is easy to open and close. I like the added safety lock to ensure the knife blade stays securely open when I'm using it - it's easy to move the lever to unlock the blade so I can close it. The blade is just the right length for my needs and the serrated section works really well for cutting small branches and brush out on the trail. The front part of the blade easily cuts meat, hard fruits, and rope with little effort. I'm getting used to clipping the knife into my pocket whenever I hike - it's a great addition to my basic set-up!
Multi-function, multi-sport: partially serrated
The Coast DX330 Serrated Folding Knife is a multi-purpose knife suitable for boating, hiking, backpacking, and camping! It is sturdy, of substantial weight, with good grips and a partially serrated blade. It features a cutting knife—1) a straight edge with angled tip and sharp point; 2) a sawing edge--serrated, 3) a blade cutter (seatbelt cutter), and 4) a glass-breaker tip. It has a DOUBLE SAFETY: a regular, LOCKING BLADE (“liner lock”) to close and a separate LOCKING MECHANISM (“double lock”) to secure when open. An awesome feature! The knife is easy to open, especially with the thumb studs. The primary “liner lock” closes easily when pressed against the frame. The closing action may be adjusted by means of a tension screw on the side of the knife. The 3.66-inch blade material is 7Cr17 rust-resistant stainless steel. The knife cares a Lifetime Coast Care warranty. TEST CONDITIONS: I tried various, non-culinary applications. I only didn’t test the glass-breaker. Blade cutter: I didn’t test it on a real seatbelt. Instead, I used parachute cord and 1” single-ply black webbing. The cord ends were frayed by cutting, but there was no difficulty cutting through the material. Serrated-edge “saw”: I used the serrated edge to cut a protruding vine. One-second cut! “Piece of cake!” Straight edge: I whittled on a dry oak stick to create shavings for starting a fire. The knife edge was sharp and generated sawdust and small slivers. Although obviously not a fillet knife, the DX330 could be useful in cleaning fish. CARRY OPTIONS: The knife is designed with a pocket clip. However, I tried two other carry options. As the clip is tight, I used 3mm perlon to create a neck cord. I also created a paracord loop so the DX330 could hang from a belt loop inside a pocket. See photos. CON’s: At 4.2 oz., the DX330 is not ultralight if ounces of weight are a concern. It’s a full-fledged knife, not a mini-tool. However, the DX330 isn’t heavy either. SUMMARY: The DX330 is an excellent knife! Its substantial functionality justifies carrying it on a regular basis for boating, hiking, camping, and travel. Time to go camping! Fantastic EDC knife for work and play!
This is a fantastic EDC (Everyday Carry) knife. I received this knife right before Halloween and it's been clipped to my pocket everyday since. The knife itself is really well constructed, looks slick, and handles jobs big and small. Working around the ranch, it easily cuts open bales of hay, bags of feed, boxes, and even carved out a pumpkin. It feels good in my hand, opens and closes easily. The blade length at 3.25" has proven to be just right. Haven't found the need to break glass or cut through a seat belt, but those options are included with this knife making it an excellent emergency tool. The Coast DX330 knife is really a fantastic knife to have and carry everyday!
Love this Knife!!!
This has quickly become an indispensable tool for all my outdoor excursions. As a regular backpacker, I appreciate gear that is not only durable but also practical, and this knife is perfect.. It is straightforward and user-friendly. It's not loaded with unnecessary features, which is a big plus for me. The blade is sharp right out of the box, and I've found it to be versatile enough for various tasks, from cutting rope to prepping food at the campsite. Its solid build quality. The knife feels sturdy in hand, and the grip is comfortable. I've used it in different weather conditions, and it has held up impressively well. Its well worth the investment!
EDC for the Car
I picked up this knife primarily to keep in my vehicle for just in case situations, so the belt cutter and glass breaking features are great to have for this purpose. Thankfully I haven't had to use either function yet. The belt cutter utilizes a dedicated blade separate from the partially serrated knife blade, which is good to know for those of us that don't always stay on top of keeping the blade sharp. I also appreciate that the belt clip is both reversible and completely removable, as it's not needed in my current situation.
Wonderful lightweight everyday carry knife!
I don’t normally carry a knife on a regular basis, but this knife may have changed my mind. It is very lightweight due to the nylon handle, and the pocket clip is very secure. I wore it for an entire weekend camping in Joshua Tree, and almost forgot it was on me multiple times. The combo blade (both smooth and serrated) was really handy in the camp-kitchen. I was very impressed by the inclusion of the glass-breaker and strap cutter, as those features provided extra piece of mind while driving my family. Overall, a wonderful knife!
Great knife
This is a great knife. Good size for using in a lot of different condition. The blade is very sharp and was able to cut through a lot of different materials. I like that it can be used instead of a life hammer in a car (the back of the knife as a window break along with a seatbelt cutter). I did like that it has two safeties for opening and closing. My only issue is that the instructions for the second safety is not very intuitive. It took a while to figure out how to operate it even with the instructions.
Nice knife, not impressed with the strap cutter
I thought this Coast DX330 Serrated Folding Knife would be a good "all around" knife to keep in my camping gear and maybe in my car. I tried it out by using it for cooking, carving our Halloween jack-o-lantern and also checked out the glass breaker and strap cutter functions. The blade is sharp and works well for cutting through most everything you'll want to cook. The handle has a non-slip texture on one side, and indentations for your fingers on the other. I like the fact that it has a secondary lock to keep it from accidently closing while in use. The primary locking mechanism needs to be pushed to one side to close the knife and I wasn't used to that, so it took me a few tries to get it to work seamlessly. The knife is made well and showed no signs of rust, even when I let it sit to air dry after using. The two other features that attracted me to this knife were the Strap/Seatbelt cutter and glass breaker, for that unlikely situation that I'd have to break out of my car. I tried using the strap cutter on some webbing and even some string. I found it awkward to use and had a hard time figuring out the correct position to hold it in for that function. Just using the knife to cut the strap worked the best. I didn't have any tempered glass that I wanted to try the glass-breaker on, although I tried it on a glass bottle. The small spike made marks, so I can only assume it would shatter auto glass.
Excellent addition to my hiking gear
I initially carried this knife with me during a weekend of hiking, but didn't have a need for it during this time, so I subsequently tested it out while working in the garden. The folded knife has a slim profile and a nice weight -- not too heavy, but enough heft to feel solid in the hand. The handle is incredibly comfortable to hold while using the knife. One day while hiking I used the belt clip to carry it and was impressed with how little it impacted my activities. On the second day, I slid it into a very small pocket in my backpack; again, it fit perfectly and didn't interfere with my activities. It will definitely be a staple of my hiking gear going forward. In terms of the blade, I tested the straight edge and serrated edge while cleaning up the garden for the fall. Having recently injured my dominant hand, I appreciated the knife's safety features. Locking the knife open ensured I would not cut my hand, and I was able to cut thick weeds and even some bamboo stakes using the knife. The serrated section was particularly quick and useful. Using the main locking mechanism to close the blade took a minute to get used to, but again it is effective and reassuring, enabling me to use to the knife to the max without any concerns. I did not have the opportunity to use the glass breaker or strap cutter (except with some twine), so I can't speak to their effectiveness, but based on how well the knife fits in my hand and how comfortable it feels when holding it, I have no doubt I would be able to break glass with it if the need arises.
Nice emergency knife, handle needs improvement
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. As a former first responder, avid hiker/backpacker and a volunteer park ranger, I always carry a knife when enjoying the outdoors. This knife has a partially serrated and partially straight edge blade. The straight edge blade is sharp. I used it to scrape stickers off of a sign. The serrated part is fairly short but useful. I like the strap/seatbelt cutter at the back. I cut a piece of webbing with it and while it worked, it took some maneuvering to get it cut. The thing I struggle with regarding this knife is the handle. Something is off. It doesn’t feel balanced in my hand it’s narrow. The biggest drawback, however, is you can’t open the blade with one hand. The blade is long and the little knob is too close to the hinge point to get enough leverage to open the blade. It would be better if the knob was further from the hinge point. Overall, it’s a nice knife for the gear bag and for possible emergency situations but doesn’t quite hit the mark for me.
