Since the cord only holds the fly flap closed and is not a draw cord that goes around the waist, these will never stay up in the ocean waves. There is elastic in the back but it it too weak to retain the shorts on unless you have a big butt.

Wanted to like but could not. Nice look and material. As mentioned before strings do not cinch waist and shorts were not comfortable. I returned them.

I have always been against wearing liners because they dig into your leg or ride up and give you a wedgy but these trunks are legit. I bought two pairs because I liked the first one so much. I wish there were more colors.
