Have worn Salomons for years and purchased the XA Pro 3D V9s for a 2-month trip to Spain. We spent 6 weeks this summer walking the Camino de Santiago. The shoes (bought 1/2 size up) fully met my expectations for comfort and traction on the numerous surfaces during the multiple back-to-back days of walking. The average rating is due to that lining of the interior of both heel ripping out. I required duct tape for the last 2 weeks.
I've hiked Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, AZ USA every day for well over a decade (6 miles, 2,400 ft elevation). It's the toughest urban hike in America (in the middle of the city). The terrain is all granite, rough, and it shreds shoes like a meat grinder. I've tried many brands and styles and ONLY the XA PRO 3D holds up with both grip on the steep rocks and long-lasting tread. I recommend them to everyone! Analysis: Merrills hold up but don't grip as well; I've seen Brooks delaminate in less than 100 miles; Hoka and La Sportiva don't hold up.
Like other three-star reviews, I basically like these shoes and I keep buying them. I am on about my fourth pair. HOWEVER, durablity is an issue. The interior heel area breaks down long before the soles wear out, or even show much wear. This has happened for my current pair, and prior pairs. I can't say this issue is getting worse over time, but it certainly isn't any better. That said, they are extremely comfortable. I these are my "urban hiking" and daily wear shoes and I am 75% on paved surfaces and 25% on gravel, grass, etc.
I never write reviews, but I have been buying this line of shoe for years. After wearing for less than a month the fabric is coming apart. Seems the quality is not there anymore.
I have been buying the XA Pro 3D and its predecessors for over 30 years. I has become the only shoe I wear all the time. With the Version 9, Salomon has ruined the shoe. It is so stiff and lacking cushion, I cannot wear it. And I tried wearing a pair for several weeks. I feel like the platform is so unflexible I am “clomping” with an uncomfortable gait. And due to the lack of cushion and shock absorption, my feet hurt after each walk, whether in the city or out on a trail. The firm but flexible sole and the cushion of the prior version are gone. I am planning to return them.
I've owned five pairs of the XA Pro 3D V8 shoes and now I have the V9 and I'm still just as happy as with the previous pairs. I've owned other Salomon shoes but this series is the best of all. The fit is superb and the toe box is roomy. This shoe is at home on most trails and all day at Disneyland. This is the non-Gor-Tex version and is more breathable and cooler for warmer temps. The only petty complaint I have is with the product photos because the shoe is lighter than what the photos show but I still like them.
We must make stronger this side, after 1 months torn
I recently purchased the Salomon XA PRO 3D V9 hiking shoes, and I am thoroughly impressed with their performance. From the moment I put them on, I could feel the superior support and comfort they provide. The traction is outstanding, making it easy to navigate rough terrains confidently. Additionally, they are surprisingly lightweight for such a robust shoe, making long hikes less tiring. The design is both stylish and functional, with excellent durability that promises to withstand various weather conditions. Overall, these hiking shoes have exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend them to fellow outdoor enthusiasts!
I have used these trail shoes (Solomon XA PRO 3D) fairly heavily for the last three months for hiking on and off trails. The soles are detaching from the upper part of both shoes. It looks like the soles are glued to the uppers and the glue is failing. They fit well and otherwise have been good hiking shoes, but now they are falling apart. There is still plenty of tread on both shoes and I would have expected they would have lasted significantly longer. Needless to say I am disappointed.
