Great commuter light set
Great set of lights for a commuter bike. I really enjoy the form factor and quality of these. Riding around town they’re plenty bright for safety (the strobe is serious!) I especially like the taillight brightness, this is very important around my city. The headlight will run all week on low/med for me although haven’t been able to really try the solar aspect much being winter, especially due to my bike always being stored inside.
Bright, compact, convenient
Love these lights. When they first arrived I was surprised at hoe compact they are even with solar charging abilities....and for 100 Lumen, they sure are a bright 100 Lumen! I like how multi purpose they are, I can charge them in my car, in my house, or in the sun! They are easy to pop on and off - so if you're worried about theft, quickly pop them off and take them with you - and as I mentioned before, they are pretty compact. The mount is pretty solid on the mount - so you won't have any trouble with your lights bouncing on bumpy roads. They have four modes - 3 dimmer modes and one flash, so you can feel secure in traffic. They are super bright for riding along the beach boardwalk, or running my errands around town. I'll even take them out on some light trail riding! Over all I rate them 5/5 for ease of use, security, and ease of charging.
Sleek light, great for commuting
Been using this for my daily commute (about 2 miles total) and it's worked great during these early fall evenings. The design is pretty slick, with magnetic connections that hold it securely in the harnesses, then the headlight and taillight snap together for charging. Honestly that took me a second to figure out, since the light didn't come with any instructions (a quick google solved that and in hindsight its fairly intuitive). The harnesses themselves fit snugly on my frame - I was a little worried as my frame was a little beefier than some of the photos on the website, but the bands stretch adequately and I haven't noticed any wiggle after the last week of rides on paved roads. The brightness is perfect for in-town riding but if you live in a rural area it might be a little dim. It works out well, however, with the ambient light in my area giving adequate visibility in areas between streetlights, etc., and I feel like passing cars see me just fine. All in all this is a great little compact light and I dig how easy it is to magnetically snap on/off and charge up - the solar is an added bonus!
Great little lights!
Have used these lights for both early morning and evening rides. Really clever design. The solar charging solves one of the perennial problems with bike lights, which is them dying mid-ride. Both lights in the set are plenty bright. Highly recommend!
Elegant design, illumination limited
I purchased this bike light as a gift for my husband. His assessment follows. The design is elegant. And the possibility of solar charging is appealing. However, the length of time for a solar charge is a disadvantage and reflects the physical reality of the necessarily small size of the solar "panel". Much of my use is in the Pacific northwest and the northern Rockies and solar gain is limited in these locations. Because of minimal solar gain, I use the USB charging system almost exclusively. Both the front light and the tail light are set up for USB charging. Earlier models apparently did not allow USB charging of the tail light. There have been complaints by other reviewers that the lights do not hold charge well. To test this feature I did a couple of experiments. I charged the front light via USB from a completely discharged condition condition until the indicator light turn green. It took about about 1 hour and 30 minutes for the green light to come on. I then ran the front light at maximum illumination until the light ran out of power. The illumination lasted for about 2 hours and 15 minutes before it shut off. One curious thing. You can hit the power button after the battery is apparently exhausted and it re-illuminates for a couple of minutes--perhaps a safety features. According to the owner's manual, when the green light indicates full charge, the battery holds between 56% and 100% charge--a surprisingly wide range. The owner's manual recommends charging for 2 hours, so I did a separate experiment with a 2 hour charging period. Under that condition the front light stayed illuminated for about the same 2 hours and 15 minutes. I tried a similar experiment with the tail light and it stayed lit for 1.5 hours on the highest level of illumination. Bike lights have two primary functions. First is to light your way on a dark night. The second is to make you more visible to other traffic especially cars and trucks. The Luci front light has 4 settings. Three levels of increasing, steady-stream illumination and a fourth "blinking" mode. The "non-blinking" mode lighting is fairly diffuse. At the brightest level it provides lighting out about 50 to 60 feet ahead of you, which is certainly less than other more focused lights. However, the blinking mode of the front light is very effective at making you obvious to other traffic. And because the blinking is so rapid, you can still see out about 50 feet or more when in the blinking mode. Again not as great as some, but unlike the blinking mode on other bike lights, you can actually use it to light your way (somewhat) without being totally distracted by intense "off-and-on" blinking. And again you are very obvious to other traffic when in blinking mode. The blinking mode of the tail light is also very effective at making you stand out to other traffic. The tail light also has 3 levels of steady-stream illumination I actually adapted the front light and the taillight to attach to the top and rear of my helmet somewhat in the fashion of a "Go Pro" (see photographs). I have had lights stolen and this attachment system should avoid that. Plus the light is exposed to our minimal sun on a regular basis. In summary, although elegant in design, I gave it 4 stars because of the level of illumination the light provides.
Bright lights for bikes (and strollers)!
These lights are very bright. Definitely no issues lighting up the road in the dark or at dusk/dawn. The attach pretty well but I do worry about the long term since they attack using bands that could stretch and lose elasticity over time. My wife has also used the headlamp to attach to a stroller to walk the kids when the sun is setting so that's another good use case. My only real gripe is it didn't come with any real directions on how to charge so it took me a few minutes to realize that the red tail light had to be magnetically attached to the front headlight so the could be charged as a single unit.
Fantastic lights
I have only had a chance to use this once due to poor weather for cycling, but overall the headlight and taillight both work great! I LOVE the option to solar charge too, I can’t tell you how many times I hear out for a ride in the afternoon and realize my lights aren’t charged up and ready for the possibility of riding home at dusk. The solar charge is the perfect solution for my forgetfulness. The headlight could be a bit brighter for rides in true darkness, but it’s a perfect commuter light for those focused more on visibility. Lastly, the light is a little clunky, but fits on my bike well and to be honest most bike headlights that actually work are bulky. Overall, this set works great and is easy to charge.
Great concept but not very practical for me.
Pros: 4 settings for light intensity including a strobe setting. Can charge via solar while you ride. Easily detachable when you park your bike or take it off for charging. Very sleek looking and 100 lumens is enough for me to see where I am going without blinding people in front of me. Cons: does not come with instructions so I had to do some reverse engineering to figure out how to charge the taillight. U can only charge the taillight by attaching it with the headlight and charge both together. Which means u had to charge both at the same time every time. While it is great concept to connect the base with the light via strong magnet. When you are going through very bumpy terrain you risk of losing your light. Also, if you lose your base by all means, your light becomes useless. You can still turn it on but u won’t be able to mount it on your bike anymore. I almost lost the taillight mount during one of my ride. Thank god I went back and found it. Also, the solar panel is not very useful. I usually don’t have my light mounted on my bike until the sun goes down and if there isn’t sun then it won’t charge. So to me it is useless. The headlight’s battery is also a bit loose in the casing so whenever I go through bumps it rattles inside. Conclusion: the size is great and light beam covers wide enough of the ground for me to see where I am going. But I am a very practical person and solid build is something I look for. This has too many loose parts and I felt like I may just take the whole mount and the light off every time when I leave my bike outside to make sure I don’t lose anything.
Solar Bright
Beyond happy with the product! They were brighter than I was expecting but that's a plus. Used them during twilight and felt safe on my ride. Definitely blinded a few pedestrians inadvertently. I'm satisfied enough with this solar bike light set to buy a second set for my kid.
Super Cool and Bright
Really thoughtful and spaceage design. Perfect for my commute and all my friends love it!
