Urban Go Bag, great kit.
I bought this for an Urban Go Bag to keep in the truck. If you had told me I would need to ditch my truck and figure out how to negotiate rioters who block roads and close city blocks I would have thought you were crazy. But here we are. It’s a reality for me so here we go. I needed a low profile easy access bag that would not get snagged up. I needed something that was small enough to not restrict mobility but large enough to store enough gear to get home safely. I needed something that didn’t stand out or draw attention “grey man” style. This bag does all those things AND is built like a tank. Its sleek, unobtrusive, is easy access and holds a bunch. It doesn’t draw attention but still looks good. If you find yourself in a similar situation this is indeed the kit you need.
Amazingly versatile day pack!
Got this pack a while ago and it's insanely versatile! I use it traveling around the US & overseas in the military, the movie industry, contracting trips, astronaut rescue and recovery missions for the all-purpose function, clean, civilian look. To be able to get this pack wide open lightning fast to access every inch is crucial for me during most work situations. Everything from a 2-day travel bag to a radio/comms bag to medical trauma pack or a combination...and everything in between, you cannot go wrong with this all-in-one pack. This is 1 of my essentials for every trip!
Mystery Ranch Catalyst 18
The overall size is good. The internal zippered side pockets are small & awkward shaped. I'd have liked an exterior water bottle sleeve. The 3-way exterior zippers are a little fussy. I got the 18 & the 3-way zippers aren't necessary, you can see the entire contents of the bag without it. But, my biggest gripe, are the 3-way external zippers feel. I'd like to rip it open to expose the interior but often one of the zippers catch or resist. The overall mechanism isn't smooth. Overall I like the size and padded straps. I'm on the lookout for another more full featured 18l sized bag with laptop sleeve
Great idea in theory
I was super excited to get this pack. 3 zip design similar to the Urban Assault, slightly larger and with water bottle pockets! The top stash pocket is more narrow and my hand (smaller female hands) have a thought time getting anything out and get scraped by the zipper going in and out. The inside laptop compartment is floated, which I appreciate, but is lacking the Velcro strap that is in the Urban Assault to secure the laptop. And the water bottle pockets… the feature I was most excited about… they don’t hold even a standard Nalgene bottle. If they had, I would have dealt with the other features I felt were a downgrade, just so I could have the 3 zip design in an EDC. But unfortunately, I had to return.
Almost there!
Bought this bag for a deployment. I like the size, shape, the padding on the yoke and back panel (the back panel holds the body well) are as great as the rest of the reviews say honestly. I really like the mesh pockets but i wish they didnt take up room inside pack (they bulge internally). The load baring straps are great. The buckles slide easily when not under load. I got the green colour and it is darker than the pictures online suggest. The things that would make it better would be air flow around the back panel, the zipper should go all the way to the bottom, the size bottle pouches arent elastic and the Catalyst 22 doesnt like nalgene bottles but the camelbak ones fit good. Also it would be nice to have a feed through hole for bladders. Other that the mentioned issues above it is fantastic! It would be nice to see it in cool colours and make the black colour all black instead of orange
Backpack is ok
I bought this a month ago and when it arrived the zipper has issues making it hard to zip up and down. I started the warranty process but decided that was a bigger hassle than the zipper so I’m keeping the back. Storage wasn’t as big as I was expecting, and there’s not a lot too it, but seems like a decent bag.
Wanted to love it
I anxiously awaited the release of this pack as the outgoing urban assault 21 looked awesome, just lacked exterior water bottle pockets which is a necessity to me. As others have mentioned, the middle zip no longer goes all the way to the bottom, reducing its usefulness. Not a huge deal, but certainly a downgrade. The top "brain" pocket is a little tough getting your hand in and out of, but never had the UA21 to compare. The bag also sits a bit funny on my back, something to do with how the panels are laid out it seems, it just looks a bit awkward. Lastly, and the most disappointing, the water bottle pockets. Too loose for smaller bottles, too tight for the classic Nalgene. Why oh why wasn't a quality stretch material used?! I know this is a recent release, but I really hope these issues are addressed because this one just misses the mark for my EDC use. Some positives: -looks great while not on my back -black with orange interior is awesome -comfortable -good size for EDC
This bag rocks
I absolutely love my Catalyst 22. I recently had a 3 day visit out of state and only took this bag, and it was just perfect to fit all my stuff, including a hoodie I had bought for my Mom. I only wish I had went ahead and bout the 26 instead. But since my main usage of the bag will be for school, I think this bag will get the job done just fine. The material is awesome and noticeably strong. I love the Triple Zipper system, as it makes accessing the bag easy. For example, if you have something in the bottom of the bag, and you don't want to empty all the contents, you can just open the vertical zipper, and reach into the bottom, without messing up your stuff. If there was any critique I would give this bag, it's the water bottle pockets on the sides. I wish they were just a little bit larger and had some stretch to them like my wife's bag does. Other than that, I really enjoy this pack and it was incredibly comfortable to walk around the airport with during my trip because of the padding and adjustments in the straps. 10/10 would recommend.
Do it all pack!
I researched bags for months to find one that could safely hold my laptop and work stuff, while still keeping out the elements and working on the trails. This pack is the perfect fit. I work in parks and the office and now only need one bag.
Yeti makes the better version.
Wow I thought MR would have updated the design of this bag, or just stopped selling it. The exterior water bottle holders are absolutely useless. Yeti is making a superior version of this bag, I definitely wouldn’t recommend the MR one.
