Osprey  Sojourn Porter 30 Travel Pack

I originally purchased this backpack for a 2 week trip to Romania. I am a fairly small woman and most 40L backpacks seem too long for me. This one was perfect for my needs and I am getting ready to take it on another 2 week trip. I was able to pack enough clothes for a range of temperatures summer/fall and still have some room for souvenirs. The materials are very good quality and I like the ability to tuck the straps into the pockets if needed. This pack is incredibly sturdy. I also just noticed that the front chest strap includes a safety whistle on the buckle. Another important feature for me was the large mesh water bottle pocket on one side.

I wanted to love this one because it’s hard to find Osprey bags that will fit a 5’3 130lb male. The goal was to use it as a carry on, I’m a one -bagger. Packed it respectfully (not completely full) and it still didn’t fit under my feet. I fly out of a small rural airport, and it didn’t fit in the overhead bin. I actually had to check it! Not what I’m looking for. Looked massive on my frame, like a turtle shell. Ended up returning because it didn’t match what I was looking for. I will say the material and concept of this bag is 10/10, which is why I rate it high despite my review. If you are taller this might suit you better, I will be going for a slimmer bag.

I am an avid Business and leisure traveler of planes, trains, and automobiles. Okay, this pack is my absolute travel companion we have shared. As already mentioned, 275 flights, and this Porter 30L pack looks great. Osprey, you heard the feedback, and your modes to this pack had me running back to change this 1 1/2 yr old Porter pack out for the current SoJourn now. The new features water bottle pocket, vented back, and compression straps in the main pocket are perfect. I am so stocked. This pack has many flights in front of it, and it's built for the challenge. Thank you for making traveling a bit easier.

Well built and durable. Exactly meets international carrier size requirements. The pack pack straps deploy easily and are comfortable. More internal pockets than you might have need, and one outside stretch pocket that is good for a small water bottle or small umbrella depending on need. Makes international travel possible without checked baggage.

I got this for a flight to Costa Rica. I packed all my gear, a spare set of hiking sandals and clothes in this bag. It fits the carry on requirements for most airlines and even the personal item size limit for some as well. The separate compartments worked amazingly well to keep the smaller items right where I needed them. The compression is top notch and the zippers are high quality that zip and hold well. The fabric has held up to dirt and just travel gunk with no staining. I'd buy this bag again and again.

I can't say enough good things about this pack! I took it on a two-week fall trip to Europe and carried this as my only luggage besides a small crossbody for wallet, notebook, etc. I am a 5'3" 125 lb woman and tried a bunch of carry-on-compatible travel packs before settling on this one. I compared it to the Cotopaxi Allpa 28L (great layout/function) and the Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC 30L (well made, but too much space devoted to laptop, etc., for my needs). Neither of those was as comfortable to carry (straps vs. breasts!) as the Sojourn--this pack has load lifters (made a huge difference to comfort) and a nice waist belt. It's shorter than the other too, which made it a better fit for me. Also the compression straps (inside and outside the pack) are useful. My partner (5'8" male) and I even used this pack for some long day hikes we took; the straps let you you cinch down the pack if there's not much in it (definitely not possible for the Cotopaxi). My partner ended up getting the Sojourn 46 for his travel pack and also loved it. Fully loaded, that one was unwieldy on me, so I went with the smaller pack and packed light.

This Osprey Sojourn Porter 30 is perfect! For months I have been seriously looking for the kind of backpack that exactly suits my purpose. I want the ability to be well-prepared and self-sufficient should that become necessary in an emergency. So, my pack needs to be light enough for me, a small woman (5’4”, 120#, 72 yo), to be able to carry for long distances but still hold a few days worth of clothes, tech, toiletries, meds, etc. I watched 50+ reviews and ordered several high-end packs of similar capacity and weight, trying them on and inevitably being disappointed. They all frustratingly had characteristics that are deal-breakers for me: huge, hard to manipulate waist buckles not comfortably operable by my small hands; load lifters that are not sufficiently adjustable to bring the pack close enough to my upper back to relieve the downward pull/stress on my neck; shoulder straps that are so unnecessarily wide that they rub painfully up against the sides of my neck and smush the girls; super expensive; and a lot more. I prioritized functional load lifters, adequate waist belt, stowable harness, adjustable sternum strap on a rail, and sturdy construction at a reasonable cost. This Osprey is the only pack that has everything I had originally wanted except a luggage pass through and since I have lots of other great bags for flying and this one is probably for walking and car travel anyway, that’s not a problem for me; it would, however, easily fit under an airplane seat if needed as a personal item. I rate the pack 10/10. Fast shipping from REI came 4 days early. Thank you Osprey and REI!

This Osprey Sojourn 30L pack replaced a worn-out Ogio from 15 years ago. Did a lot of research/video viewing, bought in-store. I love it, so far. For me, this is more used as luggage than for hardcore backpacking, tho I’m sure it’s good at the latter. I use for 2-4 day trips, or as carryon when longer trips require a suitcase. You can pack the shoulder/waist harnesses into built-in sleeves to make it loaf-shaped, carry-able by side handle - easy to throw into a vehicle or overhead bin. When used as a backpack, can tuck the padded waist belt into the unit if it’s not needed. Shoulder straps have been comfy and breathable, as has been the back, in my minimal use as backpack. Initially I was skeptical about the front compression straps, but if you’re packing in enough stuff it looks fine. I’ll be interested to see if I can shove this under an airplane seat, if moderately-filled with electronic gear/book/flight snacks :) Quality feels solid, as I was expecting from having used an Osprey 24L daypack for a decade. Like I said to the guy in the REI - there’s just so many great options to choose from, anymore! I’m happy with this pack, for my needs.

This osprey bag has been all over the world with me. It's light in weight and has multiple storage areas. I've never had a problem finding what I need in it as the storage compartments are not impossibly deep. Honestly there is nothing I dislike about it. Yes its a bit pricey but well worth it.

I take this bag on every flight since my purchase last year. The straps can be stored within the bag to allow for easy storage under the seat in front of you. Very sturdy. Just bought the Osprey Daylite Pack for use during the day while traveling.
