The North Face  Whimzy Powder Hood

This particular over the helmet hood is great, it is fleece, stays dry as long as it is fresh powder snow and not ice or rain coming down. It has both neck and face protection. It helps reduce the wind chill and protect both the front and back of the neck even on those blustery mountain days. It runs big on purpose so if you are looking to wear it as a hat, it will fit more like a jacket hood. For our female snow lovers that want something they can wear while their hair is in a ponytail, we highly recommend ordering your normal size. If not planning to wear over a helmet or with a high ponytail then order a size down.

It is really big and the part that is in the front that's supposed to cover your face is really wide and not covering. I wish you could adjust that part, but you can adjust the hood and it does become tighter so it's not that bad. I do like it and it covers the helmet since I put it over it. It is also really really warm and its very easy to breath through it. For reference I am a woman, my size helmet is medium and the hood is really big even for men with medium size head should get s/m. If your head is super small then I really recommend the kids size because it's cheaper and better with size. I regret not getting the kids size.

I bought this over hood for a friend and they wear a size medium helmet. We got an L/XL for them and it fits over the helmet well, providing enough space, but it seems to have a lot of excess fabric on the top. It creates a “peak” on top of the helmet. The S/M was too small and the L/XL does work better… so if you’re in-between sizes I would recommend the larger. Other than that, great design! The inner liner works well to have over the face and can be adjusted to tighten if needed. The fabric is soft and comfortable. Perfect for those days when the snow doesn’t stop and the wind is howling!

I had to take several tags off before I could try this powder hood on. It was so enormous I cannot use it. No size small was in stock and since local temps had gone down to single digits took a chance on ordering the L/XL. Because I took some packaging off (I left the price tag on), I may not be able to return it. Who can afford to waste $42.00 because of bad packaging?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Despite what the staff said, the small/medium size does not fit over a medium helmet unless you are okay with not seeing or breathing. The fabric that goes over the face is sewn in too high and the toggles to adjust the size are very annoying to use and don't really work well. The material is warm and soft but does not stretch much. It is too large/loose/thick to be worn under a snowboarding S/M helmet. There are other products on the market that are a lot better. I would return but the shop I bought it from said that I couldn't :(

I've been using the Whimzy Powder Hood in cold and windy conditions, and it has quickly become a must-have piece in my winter setup. The material is soft, comfortable against the skin, and provides excellent warmth without feeling bulky. It fits well under a helmet or hood and offers great coverage for the neck and face. Breathability is also better than expected, so it doesn't feel stuffy during active use. Overall, it's well made, functional, and exactly what I was looking for. I would definitely buy it again.

I bought this for working outdoors and it’s changed the game for me. It has kept me warm everyday that I’ve used it so far!
