Poor execution of a good idea.
Somewhere out there is a product manager who wanted to save 1/10th of a cent per unit and thus opted to include short flat-head screws with this lock, leading to lousy execution on a good idea. The whole point of this lock is that is mounts to the frame of your bike for convenience, so when the screws are too short to mount the lock onto a common bike brand, it stinks. When the sheath itself doesn't click into place, it makes you scratch your head. When you have to use a penny to get the lip to engage the clip so it stays on, you realize - this is a bad product, and you need to let fellow REI members know - don't buy this version.
Nice, but did not mount well for me.
Really wanted to keep this because to the mounting technology. But that was the problem. The lock when folded was too long and would not snap into place on the seat tube water bottle mounts which in turn cause it to rub against the lower frame. Wasn't willing to get scratches on the frame or to lose paint over this. And similar issue when trying to mount to the down tube water bottle mounts, hit the seat tube water bottle cage. Am riding a Jamis Coda S1 17".
Sleek but not theft proof
Love how this looks but my bike got stolen literally the second time I used this lock. Someone smashed the lock part until it broke and took my bike. :( 2 not 1 star because I loved how compact the lock got and could be stored so easily but in the future I guess I’ll stick with the ULock
Great For Daily/Short Lock-Ups
This lock is exactly what I needed for a no-fuss, secure, and easy to use lock. Having it on the bike is convenient, and the bracket mount/holster is super burly and secure (I've accidentally taken this lock on a gravel race with me, and it didn't budge.) It goes without saying that no lock is 100% theft proof, and they have rated this lock with a bronze rating, but I feel confident locking my bike up for short grocery runs or meals.
Doesn’t fit
Have a Trek Domane and Checkpoint and the mounting bracket with the lock doesn’t fit any of the multiple mounting locations, period. The lock extends too far below the bottom of the holster to fit on the bike without sliding out or hitting the frame. Nice idea, poor execution. The lock itself feels and looks nice, just don’t count on mounting it to your bike.
Great idea, doesn’t work well
Lock has release problems, you have to wrestle it free from locked position. I have Abus locks in similar style, they are far preferable but the REI Eugene had only this one, and while traveling I forgot to bring the Abus
