Took my Merrells to Iceland and they did not disappoint. My feet were warm, dry and comfty during 10 days of adventures....waterfalls, glaciers, & hikes for miles. My husband loves his just as much.
I don't know what happened to merrell shoes but... The glue for the sole is defective. Women's, men's, kids all have the same issue. My child came home from school with the soles in his backpack, I thought he was just hard on them until it happened to me. Loved the look and the fit but for 6 days of use over 2 winter snow trips, my last trip with what I thought was a high quality product turned into a miserable experience.
These are really the look I wanted, they were super comfy with "Superfeet Hike Support Insoles". I wore them in iceland on/in a glacier, in the city, on/in a volcano, etc. My feet were warm the whole time. I love the zipper function, if you do not fold the zipper down against the shoe is will rub against things and come unzipped. But after it happens a few times you remember to press it down. I would recommend going a whole size up, I went up a half size which was fine most of the time, but on the longer hike I did end up having some swelling that left me uncomfortable.
Took my Merrells to Iceland in December. They were warm, and comfortable for walking a lot. Just what I was looking for!
These are the warmest boots I have had. However, I really wanted a mid-calf length boot which they no longer carry. Living in the north with lake effect snow, taller is better. I do like the zip on the side but to get your foot in and out of the boot you still have to loosen and re-tie the laces defeating the purpose of the zipper. They are also very slipper on ice, I know everything is slick on ice however these are far slicker than my other two pair of winter boots. But again, very warm boot. They run small order 1/2 to one size bigger.
I was so looking forward to having a pair of lightweight winter walking boots, but I'm really disappointed. I wore them on ONE walk and had a lot of foot pain - in two different places. 1) the boots are not wide enough in the toe box and they are not available in Wide sizes. 2) the boots cause pain on my ankle bone in the area of the lacing hook. It's also in the same area as the edge of the tongue. Not sure which factor caused the pain, but I could barely wait to get home and take the boots off. I have never had this problem with any other Merrell shoes or boots. It would be nice if Merrell would accept a return, but I don't see that option on the website.
My daughter purchased a pair of these a year ago and really liked them. This year I bought a pair as well due to her recommendation, and I'm NOT sorry! These boots are FANTASTIC! They were comfortable to wear from day one with no breaking in period, and they are cute as heck to boot (pun intended). YES!! I live in the Pacific NorthWET and the boots have lived up to their waterproof reputation, keeping my feet warm and dry. The sizing is pretty right on as well. Technically, I'm a 6-1/2 - 7 Wide and I purchased a size 7-1/2 to allow for thicker socks, and these are a pretty sweet fit. I'd HIGHLY recommend them.
Fit slightly narrow in the toe box. I do not have wide feet and got my regular size. I wouldn't recommend sizing up or the heel will be sloppy. Break in well, overall nice boot good for winter trails. Warm, good traction, stay in place if you do the laces up right. I just wish shoe companies would quit thinking all women have fairy feet which are extremely narrow. As mentioned, I do not have a wide foot so if you do, I don't recommend.
So far I'm really enjoying these boots. At first it was very difficult to open and close the zippers, but it is getting easier. They keep my feet very warm, and are quite comfortable. My last set of winter boots were also from Merrell and they lasted me over 10 years and are STILL waterproof, so I'm hoping to get another 10 years out of these!
I'm so happy with these boots. I've purchased many Merrell shoes and boots; always a size 9 but sized up to 9.5 and glad I did after reading how snug they are. Michigan winter hiking and my feet are warm. I also wear leg warmer over the top of the boots so that snow doesn't get around my ankles
