Purchased the Rose animal/mauve color because it's just too adorable. My main gripe is that there's no good place to hang it, as there's no hook loop along the neck, and it's hoodless. We now have a small, down-less spot in the upper back where we've had to hang it up at home and daycare. It's also not as padded as I thought it would be, which is fine for our California 45-degree winter afternoons, but it might not be warm enough on its own in colder weather. Seems to run a bit short and wide. I purchased this at half price, which was a great value for the quality and durability. Not sure I would have bought it at full price, though.
The reversible feature is fantastic for our 3-year-old, giving her a sense of choice! We really love this jacket—she had a smaller size when she was younger, and we couldn’t resist getting a bigger one as she grew. The fabric is durable yet lightweight, and it washes easily, which is a huge plus. It also has some water-repellent properties that help keep the down dry, even in humid climates. Living in Canada, layering is essential, and this jacket is incredibly versatile. We use it on its own for fall and spring and as a layering piece under a rain jacket or winter coat in extreme cold—like this week, when it hit -22°F!
My daughter calls this her “dragon jacket” & she loves it! It’s easy to roll into a bag for carrying purposes & is the perfect thickness for layering with a hoodie & long sleeve.
I got a 2T for my 12 month old. (Smallest size available at my local REI) it was big on her, but the sleeves where easy to roll up and because it’s down it wasn’t bulky like most larger jackets would be on a baby. It kept our girl very warm on a camp trip where temps got down to 35°. I would definitely recommend getting larger sizes for kids to grow into them. I just wish there was a hooded option.
runs small, i bought a 3T for my 3 year old who is small of her age (she can fit into 2T clothes), and it fits just well enough for a small layer underneath. so definitely size up
I bought this coat in a 3T for my toddler last year shortly after she turned one (she was wearing 2T clothes). She just turned two, and her coat from last year is too tight now at the bottom and neck. The shoulders still seem to fit fine. I have not been able to find a similarly warm, down coat in a pattern that she likes for such a good price, so I just bought it again in 4T. I wish that the coat had a hood and was a better shape for pudgy toddler bodies. But I definitely recommend this coat as a budget option! I cannot imagine spending $200 on a Patagonia down coat that my child will grow out of in a year.
We got a red and blue version of this jacket as a hand me down, and I loved that it was just warm enough for getting to the car and thin enough to still be safe in the car seat. We purchased another one when our son outgrew his (Sargasso Sea is a lovely colorway!) and he’s very attached to it! The zipper is easy for a 2-3 year old to do independently after some coaching, and it’s cool that it’s reversible so he can choose which side he wants to wear that day. What I would LOVE to see is a LOOP ATTACHMENT!!! It’s so hard to hang this on our coat rack at home or cubby hooks at school. I’m an early childhood educator, and let me tell you how much it drives teachers and kids alike absolutely crazy when jackets keep falling off hooks! It’s actually such a pet peeve of mine that I won’t even buy a coat unless it has a hanging loop at the collar—this jacket is quality in many other ways so I made an exception, but it does get frustrating. Otherwise, great coat! We use it (with proper layers) in cold Vermont winters and over a longsleeve or T-shirt in shoulder seasons. Holds up very well and my son doesn’t complain about the cold in it.
2T tooooo small for my just turned 2yo girl. It seems like it should be labeled 1-2yo…. A 3t would be 2-3yo
We love this REI jacket for our 2 year old! It stuff warm for her and made of good material. We love the pattern. Highly recommend this product!
Cute coat, runs true to size. Unfortunately not as warm or puffy as I would expect it to be for the price.
