Some Good and Some Not So Good
Easy to put on, take off, and adjust. Fits a double rack well. While it is fairly comfortable, I was expecting something better, perhaps more padding. Also, the front of the harness digs into my lower stomach area. I've used it once so far but for an all-day multi-pitch trad outing leading six pitches and following a few more. I normally wear the Petzel Corax and find that harness to be more comfortable than the Long Haul. The best parts about the Long Haul are the sturdy and good-sized gear loops with the back loop for belay devices, anchor gear, etc. I'm actually debating taking it back simply because the front of the harness is annoying, although not really painful.
Excited to put it through its paces!
I got this harness to start pursing longer multi-pitch routes in more comfort as my old harness left me feeling a bit bruised and achy around my waist after spending a whole day in it during my first few multi-pitch practice/learning sessions. So far I have just used it at the gym a few times but it already feels like those pressure points around my waist will no longer be an issue and it has felt good to sit in this harness under load for extended periods. The harness is still a bit stiff from being new but hopefully that goes away with use. I am looking forward to seeing how it handles longer days on the wall once the weather cools down again and allows it.
Bigger and Better than the Big Gun
So far this is a great harness, bigger and better than the Big Gun. Hanging in it for several hours at a time it’s more comfortable than the previous BD big wall harness. I like that it does not have double stacked gear loops, making gear access easier. The addition of ice clipper slots is a nice addition, and makes convenient storage for awkward items. The modern speed buckle is a mixed bag for my use, but overall a positive change. I use this for bolt replacement work, and think it’s great! Lots of hanging with lots of tools and faff, and this harness is a step up from other harnesses I’ve used.
Comfort is not the word
I compared many harnesses with the long haul. I found myself always going back to the long haul harness. It fits well and provides support exactly where it is required. The gear loops are positioned in the correct places and naturally your hands find gear when required. The double belay loops complement each other and the infinity loops are one of the best features. It allowed the karabiners to move and flow freely. There is still enough space to tie in with either a single or double rope. The perfect all round harness
Okay for guiding but not ideal for many things
The ice clipper spots are too far back on the size small harness to really reach. The padding is okay but I find this harness is not as comfortable as the misty mountain Cadillac if you are in hanging belays or belaying clients all day. I’m going to sell mine after a few months of use. At least the gear loops on the size small are normal size compared to BD’s last aid harness where the gear loops were unusably small on the size small harness. Overall it’s fine but underwhelming.
Excellent Harness
I feel extra safe in this harness. There is lots of padding and I can hang out in the harness comfortably for extended periods. I love the double belay loops; this should be the standard for all harnesses. There’s lots of extra carry room for equipment. I am currently using the harness indoors to train for multi-pitch outdoor climbing. I often load it like I am going on a long climb to build up my muscles and get used to the feel. The harness works great.
One of the worst products i've purchased in a while
Wrote a long review and just deleted it to simplify. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Lacking in quality at every turn. Fits poor, material feels poor. Doesn't breed any confidence in maintaining a comfortable, durable, and / or safe product. I've purchased BD harnesses for over 10 years and they've been the contrary to this product. I've heard the quality has gone down hill but this was really disappointing. Will never buy a BD soft good again. Returned.
Comfortable all day harness
I'm really happy with the feel of this harness. I needed something I could sit comfortably in for long belays/climbs/rapels and this is it. The rated haul line and two belay loops also allow for more uses for multi pitch routes. The back padding is thick and tall and provides more support than the usual entry level harnesses provide. Great pick up for anything that requires you staying in your harness for very long periods of time.
keeps me off the deck
Definity more comfortable for long hangs than my free climbing harness. However, I didnt feel restricted by the harness while doing a few free moves off my aiders. I like the big gear loops especially the "junk drawer" in the back. Also, that you can easily take off the leg loops when sleeping. Belay loops are smaller than expected but didn't impact anything, it is nice to be able to rotate them so easily to distribute wear.
Extremely comfortable
This harness has verry a large waist belt and leg loops, they are also reasonably ridged this gives a verry comfortable hanging feel! The belay loops are interesting I like the lack of barracks my only concern is long term durability of these belay loops other than that, every part of this harness feels bomber and durable. I can't stress enough how well the large waist belt and leg loops feel 10/10!
