Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and Âľ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Like warm butter on skin!
Fit: I ordered the medium. Come to realize, the small would’ve fit me better after donning. Chose the size medium based on the one review I could find, indicating the fit was on the small size. To me, the fit IS true-to-size. The medium was a little long on me & a bit lose (64.25 in tall. Usual pant size 2.) The waist doesn’t roll! Very soft & buttery fabric next to my skin. Drawstring waist a plus. Performance: Wicked sweat nicely during my indoor cycling workouts. Hiked in low 40s and it kept me nice & warm. Able to squat easily & perform deadlifts without waist rolling or material pinching the skin. Movement is free in these leggings! Extras: LOVE the compression pockets. Room for my iPhone 12 Pro, tissues, & keys. And there was still room left over! 2 pockets on each side & along back of waist. The reflective elements are a plus as I go on many night walks. Overall thoughts: Recommend highly for cooler weather in the PNW (Or anywhere.)! Even though they were a tad too big, and only a tad; these performance bottoms were extremely comfortable. I will be wearing everywhere during my outdoor athletic activities this cold season! ❤️
Comfortable Running Tights with a Few Flaws
I recently tried out a pair of REI Co-Op Swiftland thermal running tights and overall, I’m happy with their performance. The fabric is thick, offering both comfort and durability. I found that they stayed in place really well, even during my more intense runs (which is still pretty slow, but we all have our own pace!). There was no sliding or adjustments needed, which was a big plus for me. The material also prevented any chafing, making them comfortable for longer workouts. Another feature I appreciated was the fit around the ankles. There was just enough room, so they didn’t feel uncomfortably tight, which I find is often an issue with other tights (But the extra room could be becasue of my height). Since I tend to run cold, these tights were fantastic once my heart rate got up. However, I would note that they’re not the warmest for casual wear or lower-intensity activities, like chores around the house. There were a couple of downsides. I did notice some stitching issues on the inner thigh that were a bit annoying but not enough to be a dealbreaker. Additionally, they aren’t the most flattering fit on my body type, but since I’m wearing them for working out and not for fashion, it’s not a major concern. Overall, they’re solid running tights that get the job done, even if they have a few minor flaws.
Decent affordable tights, works as advertized
* I like that these are high-waisted tights with a drawstring—I find that is super handy! Over time, I find that tights can loosen, and the drawstring gives me the option to adjust for a better fit. If you're into higher waist tights, these sit high. They are my go-to because I like how it sucks everything in, and offer extra support and a flattering fit to create a smooth streamlined look. * The pockets fit my iPhone 15 Pro, but admittedly I haven't tested them on a run or workout class yet to see if there's any bounce. * The compression feels solid and snug—not too tight. It's a similar feeling to my other branded tights. * I also can't give much feedback yet about the warmth, though even though they are "thermal" because it hasn't been cold enough to test it. * So far, they haven’t pilled after one wash (as expected), which is a relief—but it’s still too early to tell how they will hold up over time. I take good care of my tights, washing them on a delicate cycle with cold water and line-drying them.
Keeps you warm without the bulk!
Overall, these are very nice leggings. They are warm without being too thick. I do like the drawstring waist and they have nice big pockets! However, I felt the shape of the leggings was a little off - for me, they were perfect in the thigh / butt area but were a bit too large in the waist / calf area. My only other complaint was that some of the stitching began to come undone about 30 minutes into my first workout with them!
Runs small
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. So in all my athletic pants I am a size small. I am 5’7 and weigh 140lbs. However these run small. They are very tight around my waist and even around my ankles. When I take them off I have lines around my ankles and up my leg and around my stomach, so I have had to take them off after 20 mins. What I do like: they seem to be extra high rise, they go a full inch above my belly button. I love all the pockets and of course with black athletic pants who can go wrong !
Great for Fall and Spring
Great fall and spring tight. Lightweight, soft, and warm. Wore them on a rainy fall day and they were just right. Blocked the wind, didn't get soaking wet, and kept me warm. Not warm enough for winter running. When they arrived, I thought they were going to be too small but they fit. A little tight but not constrictive. Recommend sizing up if you're between sizes. Pockets were great and held things in place while running. They wash up great and look bramd new after several uses and washes.
My new go-to!
As soon as I pulled these out of the package, I was impressed by the way they felt! They’re thick and sleek, and the reflectors are a thoughtful touch. I’ve run in them several times right around 32 degrees, and my take is: - These were initially super tight in the waist, but stretched enough to be comfortable for extended periods of wear. I ordered my usual pants size, S, and was a little disappointed at first, thinking they were another super compression-y pair of leggings. After two wears, the waist wasn’t uncomfortably tight, and by my fourth or fifth wear, I was making use of the handy drawstring. - The pockets are awesome! The side pockets show no signs of bagging out after plenty of phone transfers and glove stuffs. I’m not totally convinced you could get a phone into the waist pocket, but I’ve used it for snacks, a headlamp, and pepperspray. Everything stays nice and secure. - These are a strictly running legging for me — if I’m not working as hard as I am when I run, there isn’t enough insulation to keep me warm. Walking in these around 32 degrees left me with cold legs, but that’s the nature of leggings in general. These are additionally too tight for me to consider wearing as a base layer at size S, but I’ve enjoyed having a go-to garment for running this winter. - At 5’3”, most pants are a little long on me. These weren’t ridiculously long, and they don’t ride up on my thighs like a lot of tighter bottoms do.
Not that warm.
I found these were only barely warmer than any other non-thermal-designated running tights, like really hardly at all They were ok in the thirties (F), but my thighs were absolutely freezing once it got below like 32. I was hoping these would be my colder morning set but they're just mostly just another pair of normal leggings, which I didn't need. I found them to run a little small compared to other REI sizing. They'll be fine for spring and fall but I don't think they deserve "thermal" in the name.
Product has changed since 2023
I ordered the exact item in 2023, and these tights are different. The sizing runs smaller: I ordered a medium in 2023, and even with a year of wash-and-dries, the 2023 tights are larger than the medium ordered in 2024. And the small key pocket in the right front waistband has been eliminated. Disappointing - I love the running tights I ordered in 2023 and wanted a second pair. The key pocket is perfect for carrying salt chews on long runs. I will keep them since I used REI rewards which made them affordable, but I'm disappointed in the changes.
great leggings, not accurately sized
Love these thermal tights. Very well made and comfy - only problem is that are not accurately sized. I am always an xsmall but I had to get a medium. I couldn’t get the xsmall leggings over my knees! Highly recommend, but would get 2 sizes bigger than your normal size!
