Solid rack for a single Kayak
Kayak Rack
Firstly, if you are wanting to transit two kayaks on this set your expectations low. You'll need to buy straps and padding to make sure the second does not get damaged. If you want to transit two kayaks buy a system that has full structural support for two or two individual systems. The only other issue is the straps. They have no branding or markings to identify that you have the same side of the strap. This may seem minor but securing your rig takes time and figuring out if you have the right side can waste time. I'm going to buy a second rack and I'd buy this system again.

Broke shortly after 1 year

This was working great until the screw broke that holds the rack to our bar. We can use a rachet strap, but for an over $200 rack from Thule, I was expecting greater longevity. Not sure if we just got a defective one, but I'm hesitant to recommend based on this failure after just over a year of very light use.

Poor Design

Poor design that will not last. Ordered two sets. First set installed easily. Second set the tightening screw stripped. Took an hour or two to get them off the rack. Ordered replacement set. Went to attach the first set this morning and noticed one of the tightening screws was stripped. Had to cut the mount off the roof rack. Returning both sets and buying a kayak trailer.

Quality Through and Through

I love my new roof rack and kayak rack systems from Thule. Service was good and the product is everything it’s hyped up to be. It was easy to find the right system for my vehicle, easy to order and install. I had a question about my billing and it was answered promptly. What they said would happen happened and all was good. I would definitely recommend dealing with Thule.

Works as advertised

The Hull - a - port is easy to install. Takes a few minutes tops and holds my 10 foot kayak securely to the roof of my crosstrek.

Great Kayak Carrier and Thule Improved it.

The Hull-a-Port XTR is simple and easy to use. We've had one for years and recently purchased a second since we now have 2 kayaks. Thule have improved the two things that bothered me: the attachment to the rail and the clip to hold the tie-down straps. The new rail attachment uses a strap passing under the rail which works much better than the old pincer mechanism. On our old Hull-a-Port, the tie down strap would always fall out of the holder at the top of the loop, the new design fixes that problem by narrowing the gap.

Good Product

I was not able to reach the two kayak option because it is so far over my car roof, and the rack itself is a bit loose when you snap it into place. However, it did hold the kayak in place even in a good wind.

Rack is good but could be better.

I got this product about a month ago and tested with my 10ft kayak. Overall the product is good but I would add extra support and cushion to the places where the kayak is seated on. You can even see it on the image of the product page. Since the kayak is not straight but has a bit of an oval shape, it is not seated 100% on each of the supports. I am a bit scared that if a get a bump on the road the kayak might crack right open at the spot where its barely touching the rack.
