Nice adventure travel pack!
First impressions: High quality travel backpack! Fun color, getting away from the typical black bag while still dark enough to show the dirt that every adventure will bring! Lots of handles and grab points. The daypack is securely on the main bag but easily detaches. The dirty gear compartment is a nice addition as is the included rain cover/check-in cover. In use pros: Comfort is a key and it showed. A full bag and carried with no discomfort. Really enjoyed the many pockets and access to them throughout. I did use the daypack separately and found it to be a great day bag! In use cons: Really, the only disappointment is the size of the water bottle pockets. Too small to handle a typical 32 oz Nalgene bottle. Obviously, this is relatively small as there are many choices when it comes to water bottles these days. Overall: A really comfortable adventure travel bad with a multitude of options for use. The quality is obvious and will last. I look forward to years of use on my adventures!
Great travel pack!
Gregory hit the mark with this travel bag. It’s spacious, comfortable, sleek and full of functional features. I feel confident using it for both weekend trips and week long excursions and love the versatility it provides me for including a small day pack that can be removed. I would absolutely recommend this bag to a frequent traveller.
Lots of organization options.
I've now taken this pack on hikes, service projects, and to several meetings. Pros include: 1) Lots of pockets for organization, both external and internal. 2) For a large pack, it's very lightweight when empty. When full, it distributes the weight well and is comfortable. To date I've carried up to approximately 35 pounds very comfortably. 3) On my trips so far, I've needed to carry so much that I've taken the entire pack instead of trying the day-pack stand-alone, but I like that the option exists. 4) On a service project, this pack easily held all of my personal equipment, my dog's equipment, plus tools for the job. 5) I expect this pack will really shine for cabin trips I have planned later this winter. I haven't used all of the internal pockets yet, several of which seem best designed for multi-night trips away from home where I'll need separate pockets for dirty clothes, etc. These pockets are not easily accessible when using the pack for dayhikes, but they should serve a very useful purpose on multi-night trips. Cons: 1) There's a lip behind the black mesh internal pocket in the main part of the pack, and I frequently find that I catch items on it as I try to remove them from the pack. 2) The mesh external pockets are too small for most of my water bottles. They seemed to be designed for the disposable plastic-type bottles, but I prefer to use Nalgene-type bottles which only fit inside the main compartments. It's about the same diameter as my bear spray (pictured), whereas my water bottles are all bigger around than that.
Bad quality and some silly design flaws
The compression straps should be on the inside because they do nothing hanging outside. The cover should be bigger to fit the pack when full and it should be stored at the bottom of the pack where the water proof/padding from would help when placing the pack down instead of taking up space on one of the most accessible parts of the bag. The important paper storage mesh pocket creates an absolutely useless space on the top of the pack. Oh and mine ripped within a month of use! The stitching fell right off. I stored papers, guess that was too much for Gregory quality (sarcasm). It's ok. I like the idea of a double backpack for traveling and the active seal is nice. It would've been better with a hike though for a platypus.
Great Versatility, Comfort and adjustments
I love all the different adjustments everywhere. All the belts are very comfortable and breathable. I especially liked the wrapping hip belt feature: It offers great support while being extra comfortable, and I felt it was protecting my lower back. Being able to adjust the torso length was a big benefit for me. I was a bit puzzled on how to use the cover as far as “rain protection”. It is a bit hard to install when the back pack is full and you want to use it while hiking, but it is useful to use as a whole bag for transport. The Zip-off daypack is an awesome feature and is very easy to take off and on. The compartment for dirty gear is good too. The Bordeaux red color is looking great and pretty easy to clean
Love this travel pack!
Love this travel pack! It’s definitely not set up for backpacking but perfect for my weekend in NYC! And I use it everyday for work. I know, not your typical office job briefcase but I love that it holds my laptop, coffee, water, purse, lunchbox, workout clothes & shoes all in one convenient place! No longer do I walk into work balancing 14 bags! Small pack is easy to zip off for times I don’t need the extra part! Hip belt is comfortable and easy to adjust. Highly recommend.
useful at what it is intended for
If you are looking for a pack to go backpacking in the wilderness, this is not the pack you want. It is really intended for traveling by air and perhaps train if you then need to carry your luggage a bit of a distance and over terrain where a roll-aboard would not work well. For that it's a good pack. But it has no straps to attach any gear to it and you can't use the rain cover when wearing it. The rain cover is essentially a zippered bag with a handle enclosing the whole thing (although you need to take off the day pack or leave it empty for it to fit). Perfect for protecting you pack when checking it in for air travel but useless for walking in the rain with your pack. The main pack is fairly narrow (even for a women's pack) but still has about the same volume as a roll-aboard. I like the dirty gear compartment (expands to up about half the size of the pack as needed) which can hold hiking boots without problem. It's a great way too make sure your dirty gear doesn't get the clean stuff dirty. The surface of the dirt compartment is such that it's easy to clean with soapy water and a cloth. The main compartment could have benefitted from interior compression straps (the existing straps can pretty much only be used once the zipper is closed). The strap system on the main pack is a bit weird in terms of sizing but otherwise fine even for heavy loads (I loaded the pack to about 40 pounds and walked around for an hour and a half without any issues). I'm barely 5'3" and wear a size 2 petite (short torso). But I had to put the shoulder straps almost as high as they would go (usually with packs I have the opposite problem, they barely go as low as I need them). But then the belt strap (well padded, thank you!) was almost as tight as it would go (about half an inch left) if I was not wearing a thick sweater or jacket. So someone with a smaller waist than me will not be able to tighten the belt strap as much as needed for good support. The day pack is useful as carry-on and for sort saunters around town. Don't plan on wearing it the hole day, especially not if you have a laptop in the sleeve intended to fit a laptop. It has no belt strap and the shoulder straps aren't that cushioned. And as the laptop will be next to your back without the pack having any shaping of its own, if feels like you have a board strapped to your back as the pack doesn't conform to the shape of you back. The top compartment of the day pack could be larger. I could fit in my wallet and keys, but then there was no room for my sunglasses, all things that I like carrying in that pocket. The only way to carry hydration are the two net-baggies on the daypack intended for water bottles (there is nowhere you could put a hydration pack). They are pretty narrow and only fit 700ml bottles (neither my quart-sized Hydroflask nor Nalegene canteen fit). But at least they are deep, so those smaller bottles are not at risk of falling out. If you are aware of the pack's limitations and use it accordingly, it's a great pack. But don't even think about venturing not the wilderness with it.
Literally the PERFECT Pack for a Europe Trip
I just got back from three weeks in Europe and this was honestly the most perfect pack I could have gotten. We did an adventurous trip, with multiple countries, lots of planes, trains, busses, cable cars, etc. and it was beyond perfect. I packed everything for the whole trip in this pack and it was perfect for home basing from a hotel/hostel for a few days and having the zip off daypack for day trips, both on the trail and around cities. We did everything from downtown Amsterdam to hiking the Alps in Switzerland. The fit of the main pack, fully loaded, was incredibly comfortable. There is a real hipbelt so even with a lot of weight, it was comfortable to schlep around airports, train stations, etc. I saw tons of people around Europe with a backpack on front and back (which looked miserable) or trying to haul roller luggage on and off trains all over Switzerland. Honestly, I can’t imagine doing a trip around Europe with any other pack. The cover that I used in a downpour as well as to convert it to a checked back when I returned home, was rad and worth the little extra space it took up. Only feedback would be that the water bottle pockets could be bigger, but I like huge YETI bottles so I probably need to downsize. Overall, love this pack and would recommend to anyone doing an overseas or adventure trip.
Touring Bag
At first glance this pack is versatile due to how the front zips off allowing you to carry a daypack. Additionally, the active shield compartment is an added bonus for wet and dirty clothes while traveling. Upon closer glance, once the front pack is zipped off, there is no place to store H2O and even when the front pack is secured to the larger pack, the pockets are small and do not accommodate a standard 32 ounce water bottle; it should be noted there is also no spot for a reservoir / bladder. There is however a 3 in 1 travel cover which is beneficial when checking this pack as luggage or passing through security in an airport, although, I can’t see how it would be used practically as a rain cover while doing anything but traveling; the full zippered enclosure doesn’t allow for exposed straps, which prohibits one from hiking with it in inclimate weather. And lastly, my pack wasn’t fully packed and I found it challenging to get the 3 in 1 travel cover over my gear. There are two small storage spaces one on the upper part of the pack and the other a hard mesh see through pouch on the inside. There are no gear loops neither on the main body of the pack nor at the bottom. When I ventured out with this pack, I secured a strap to the two side pack straps (whose main purpose is to secure the small pack to the larger pack) so that I could carry my ground pad. The harness (shoulder) straps are shorter than what I am accustomed too. Overall, this pack would make a fine travel pack, getting from point a to point b and perhaps for someone city touring, however, I would not recommend this pack for winter hikes & snowshoe excursions etc. as it lacks some of the core essentials and comforts, even something as simple as pockets on the waist belt are simple design features that this pack doesn’t have.
