A Must-Have for the Hopeful Explorer
This book is a treasure for anyone who wants to geek out on accessible geological history without having to bushwhack and drill core samples to find it. If you live in Minnesota, this can expand a short trip in geographical terms to an eic adventure in geological terms. I definitely felt connected with the ancientness of the planet while traveling around with this tome in my car - especially among the primordial rocks of the Canadian Shield region. All books in this Roadside Geology series are spectacular, but Richard Ojakangas (who happens to be husband of esteemed culinarian Beatrice Ojakangas, whose books are equally marvellous) injects incredible insight from his decades-long career as a geologist and lifetime of exploration around his very own homeland. This is also an excellent gift people may not know they want until they get it, and an intriguing coffee table book that guests will devour once they open the pages.
