Haven't field tested yet, but have used around the house. The lighter weight is noticeable if you're counting ounces. I think the short runtime are going to be fine for me, I don't need hours of headlamp while camping. The simple control scheme is great. My biggest complaint is the order. It goes Dim->Bright->Red, but it should be Red->Bright->Dim. I think that is common sense, but maybe you disagree. I also think the "Dim" setting could be dimmer. The "bright" is intense, and the "dim" is not that much lower. Still if you want something lighter and rechargeable for ultra-light, this seems to be the best low cost option.

GREAT LAMP - Look Out for Bad Batch

If you read bad reviews first- this lamp is AWESOMELY wonderfully a GREAT LAMP. Very bright, very simple to use, red is bright, lasts a long time, but check your lamp when you get it. I buy online (2 hour drive from nearest REI), my first lamp was so great and so lightweight I wanted to get a second for Grand Canyon backpacking trip (it's lighter than the solar Luci lamp). The second one I bought was defective-light was dim, it lost power within minutes (I wasn't timing, maybe less than a minute), it recharged within a minute (NOT normal), and it went out again within minutes. I DO get to the big city (Santa Fe) occasionally, so I returned it then and I purchased another online in December 2023. The second one works perfectly. I recommend this product!!! It gave this lamp the low rating so that others read it and try it out!!!! I highly recommend this product

Hard to beat for the price!

We all know productivity slows down when lighting isn't ideal.. With this headlamp, you'll be sure to stay in business. I've had this headlight for about a month now and wanted to test it out before writing the review. The FL1R came in incredible looking packaging showing all the specs and features, something you don't get when you buy a knockoff from china on amazon. In the package includes a micro usb charging cable, a hat attachment feature and the FL1R unit itself. After opening up the package and charging the unit, we set out to camp for the weekend. We arrived to a wet and dark campsite because it was a rainy evening so I fired up the light so I could see in the back of the jeep to get camp set up as fast as possible. This light is very bright, well built and lasted the entire weekend without the need to recharge. I did however have a spare micro USB in the jeep with a battery pack just in case. When you are charging the unit, there's a giant green light on the top to let you know when it's charged. The FL1R is IPX4 rated so I wasn't worried about the rainy evening. I had no troubles with the light. When we walked up to the main office in pitch black, the light spread from one side of the road to the next with no trouble with visibility. Back at the camp site, there's plenty of light to adequately see to make s'mores and a fresh pot of pour over camp coffee. An added bonus to the light is the reflective strap so your visibility is increased in a dark situation. This feature was not needed but welcomed. I'm very impressed with this headset and really the only complaint I could think of was micro USB is on it's way out and most of my charging ports are changing to USBC. I"m sure switching to USBC may raise the cost of the unit and make the connection slightly bigger, which I really appreciate the size of the FL1R compared to the light output. This entry level no frills headlamp is a great buy!

Great headlamp!

I'm so impressed with this headlamp. I love that it is USB rechargeable. I've had headlamps die before and not had extra batteries with me. Having it charge via USB is a great thing for me. I hike a lot and at times I end up on the trail at dusk or at night. I'm a little depth-perception challenged, so I need a good headlamp to keep my feet safely under me. This one does the trick! It has a great wide angle flood beam and three different light settings. I love how lightweight it is, that the strap is reflective, that it's weatherproof, and has a power lockout. I would highly recommend it!

Best headlamp I’ve ever owned!

This is such a great little headlamp I can’t recommend it enough!! It is extremely light weight! By far the lightest headlamp I have ever owned! The headband can be easily adjusted or it comes off and the lamp comes with a clip the snaps on easily if preferred to be used on the bill of a hat. Brightest setting is insanely bright for such a small lamp and you get plenty of light out of the lower setting and the red LED is perfect for sitting around the campsite or sneaking in to my deer stand on the morning! First time I used the lamp we got rained on pretty heavily and I had no issues with the product. I also love the fact that it is rechargeable so I never have to worry about changing batteries and can charge from anywhere. Could not recommend this headlamp enough!

FL1R Micro Head lamp

Great little light, rechargeable is awesome as well. It's quite bright for the size of it, and it holds a charge well. Since it's smaller sized than other head lamps, it's a lot lighter and less bulky, so wearing it for longer periods of time is considerably more comfortable. I'm very happy with it. I own several COAST flashlights and have been happy with all of them and their customer service is top notch !

Awesome little headlamp

As a Ranger for the Dyrt, I sometimes receive products to review. This trip I had the FL1R headlamp from Coast. Right out of the box I was surprised how light this was- only about 1 oz! I’m not too worried about weight in the canoe, but it’s small size meant I could shove it wherever I had a tiny bit of space with no worries. The 200 lumen lamp really lit up a huge area- I wish the pictures I took would have turned out better, but a camera photo never looks as good as real life! The battery lasted all weekend with no problem. I tested it out at home before our trip and it lasted on high for over 3 hours. The red light was my favorite- it allowed me to do many tasks without attracting bugs. I also appreciated that it came with a hat clip if I preferred to use that instead of the included band. The splash resistance is also a must out on the water or in bad weather! Overall a very nice headlamp and I would order from coast again.

Super Lightweight

I got the FL1R for the purpose of backpacking where weight and durability are two key features. First off the headlamp is incredibly light and when I first took it out of the packaging I was surprised that it wasn't missing a battery or any other heavier components. On my kitchen scale it came in at 1.6 oz as you can see in the included photo. I have also gotten a chance to test out the brightness doing some night work around my house and in the garden. Wow, for something so lightweight and small it sure packs a punch and provided more than enough light for all my needs. I actually used it on the lower setting for most situations. I haven't had a chance to test the battery to its limits but from using it for a couple weeks now I haven't had to charge it yet so that makes me optimistic. Additionally, I am a fan of the built in rechargeable batteries since it means fewer moving parts and things that can get damaged. The only downside to this though is that if you run out of battery on a camping trip you would need an external battery pack with a USB port to recharge. Finally, a feature I am a big fan of is that red light for night use.

Burn risk - ouch!

I bought this headlamp almost a year ago, and I mostly use my old one still. This one is bright, and I like that you can easily take it off of the strap and clip it to your backpack, shirt, etc. However, it doesn't have any protection over the actual bulb. That means if you touch it while it's on, it burns! I discovered this when I accidentally had it on in my pocket. I burned my finger when I reached in my pocket, plus I noticed it burned a spot where it had touched the fabric. The exposed bulb makes the headlamp too bright, not diffuse enough. I blind everyone horribly! It also always feels like I'm going to break the bulb because there's nothing protecting it. Very weird design.
