Great product - highly recommend
I absolutely love GU Liquid Energy! It is so much better than original GU gels, or most other "gels" for that matter. The fact that it is liquid makes it much easier to drink, and it is easier on the stomach. As coffee drinker, I am especially fond of the coffee flavor; the taste is good, and it doesn't get old, even after multiple hours on the trail. The caffeine boost provided is also a nice touch in the late stages of a race. I will continue to rely on this product in my training and racing endeavors, and I suggest anyone that has an aversion to normal "gels" give this product a shot. I think you will like it.
Tastes a little better than other energy gels
I've tried a couple of these liquid energy gels and generally don't like them because of the tastes but this one was pleasant enough that I could see using them regularly on hikes. They tend to make my tongue numb and tingly for at least a couple minutes after consuming them. I was given the orange flavor for testing but would be curious to try other flavors.
Balanced Energy Drink
The taste of the product was excellent. I had expected a gel ness that would be hard to drink but that was not the case. It was easily drinkable. The packaging was a big plus. Compact, tough, easily opened. Perfect to throw in the pack or take on a run or to the gym. The energy lift was very comfortable. Not too much but not too little. When it came on it was very subtle. Must be the green tea extract. I did not get the jitters with this product as I am apt to do with energy drinks. I was able to calmly focus. I shared with family members and there opinions were exactly the same as mine without prompting. I would definitely purchase this product.
They aren't what I expected, but that's okay.
I received a box of GU Liquid Energy Endurance Nutrition, Coffee Flavored Gels for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. This is that review. I have been a long, if sporadic user of GU gel products. I’ve tried many flavors. Coffee has always been my favorite. This is the first time I have sampled their Liquid Energy line. The first thing you’ll notice is the packets are at least twice the size of the regular GU gels with which most people are familiar. My first thought was that these just might be different. Duh. The second thing I noticed, when I tried one straight out of the box (never try a new product when working out), is it’s not a gel! It’s a liquid! Just like the package says. For some reason, it surprised me. This is significant as one of the historic complaints about any gel product is that it is a gel. For many people the texture of gels doesn’t sit well in the mouth. A big turn off. With the GU Liquid Energy gel, this was not a problem for me. Though I must say, the traditional gel texture was never a problem for me either. I could definitely imagine this being much easier to physically get into my mouth and swallow on a long run. The next thing I’ve noticed is that the liquid flows better, creating less chance of mess and the resulting stickiness from gooey gel getting everywhere, which has happened to me. This is a plus, in my book. The taste is another thing. I don’t find it off putting or unpalatable. It’s just different and not what I expect. There is a distinct citrus tone to it. I didn’t find it bad. I was just surprised by it. I can see how some might not like it, though. Just be prepared for it the first time you try one. And, don’t expect a distinct coffee flavor in the coffee flavor. It’s there. It’s just more on the sweet and citrus side. I found the Liquid Energy gels sit well in my stomach, an important thing for any nutrition used during a workout. I tried it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, later in the day after eating other things, and midway between meals. It never bothered. Another important point is that I haven’t noticed any bonking, or let down, later on, after using the product. All in all, I found that GU’s Liquid Energy Endurance Nutrition, coffee flavored gel to be a very usable product. It wasn’t what I expected, but I’ll keep them in my nutrition arsenal, even if I don’t keep it as a regular in my pantry.
Going to order more… solid gel from GU
I’ve not been a gel guy in the past however I’ve had the opportunity to try this out… I really like it. It gives me a bit of a boost on my rides and is easy to open and use. I’m not sure the flavor is “cola” but it’s fine, tastes like a water downed cola with cinnamon. I don’t use gels or other things as a general rule however I have changed my mind. I’m going to start carrying these gels on all my rides! Solid thumbs up for the GU Gel!
Good flavor and lasting energy boost.
I tried the Lemonade version of these Liquid Energy packs and I liked it quite a bit. The lemon flavoring is subtle but quite good, it is not overpowering by any means. I used this as an after lunch pick me up to get through the rest of a long 12-hour day on my feet at work. I would recommend these if you like lemon/citrus flavor and need an energy boost that isn’t caffeine based.
Not your typical Gu... Pleasantly surprised!
The flavor was pretty good, no objections and easy to tolerate when pushing hard. The packaging is trickier than a normal Gu to open. Once torn they don't always open 100%. Otherwise the viscosity was much easier to consume than a regular Gu. These packs are like mini juice packs loaded with electrolytes and some caffeine.
Great flavor energy shot!
Used this after a workout and again after a long run, with both times tasting like a cross between a flat coca-cola and a stinger honey shot. Good consistency, flavor, and energy boost! Would recommend to anyone looking for a compact snack or energy after a difficult hike, run, or bikeride.
Cola GU liquid energy Gel
Quick and easy to use. The liquid energy gel is easy to drink on the go. I have the cola flavor, which, initially I didn’t like, but I have used the liquid gel on many bike rides since and now I like the flavor.
Good but wish they were a different flavor
These seem to work well as advertised. Took on a 12-mile, six hour hike in WNC and had three spaced 45 minutes to an hour apart. Definitely provided a lot of energy and no jitters. A friend used one on a long run and also thought performance was strong. Think they can provide an extra bit of push to keep going when you are starting to feel weary. I like the size and they are very efficient in that sense. I could fit six in one of the tiny hip belt pockets on my day hike pack, which is saying a lot since most reviewers of that product suggest the pockets are so small they are essentially worthless. I also have some popular running shorts with lots of pockets in the waistband and think I could fit pretty much the whole box of twelve in those, though I don’t know I’d ever want/need to. Only complaint is the flavor—cola? Not that it was necessarily bad (no stevia or artificial sweetener), but I never really consume soft drinks, especially not when putting in miles, so it almost felt like I was going through a fast food line when I had these. My friend had the same review—said it was weird to feel like she was drinking Coke while on a run. Wish they were something more refreshing or citrusy, though that often risks tasting synthetic. In any event it’s hard to associate a product like Coke with endurance exercise. Depending on the price and what I have planned, I might put my own money toward these in the future. Can’t beat free (in exchange for review) though.
