One harness to rule them all

This harness is the best on the market full stop. During the pandemic related supply chaos, I tried other models from other manufacturers and they all fell short. Try the flat Arc’teryx waistband and you’ll never go back. The gear loops are perfect for any size rack short of a big wall and the ice clipper sleeves are so easy to use. It even looks great. Premium gear that is 100% worth the cost. Sizing is super easy and true to fit. The leg loops adjust easily to suit everything from Red Rock multipitch to Teton ski-mo.

Best all round harness I've used

For the person that wants to own one harness to do it all from Ice and glaciers to trad and alpine, this is that one harness. What originally drew me in was the ability to fully open the leg loops rather than stepping into them (ya still can) and the fit! I'm a 33" waist and often between sizes but the AR-395A fits me perfectly! The thin "padding" had me wary at first but the whole Warp Strength Technology really works and the harness is amazingly comfortable to hang in! Gear loops work as designed and slid the next piece to the front, I like the size of the haul loop for hanging a jacket and extra gear yet it can be hard to unclip wire gate carabiners from the thin webbing. All in all I love this harness, I don't think I've ever said that about one before either.

Favorite Harness

AR-395a is by far my favorite harness - I can wear and sit in it all day while out on big multi pitch days, cragging or on weeknights at the rock gym. Holds gear very well, do not feel the weight of the gear on hips after long days. Big fan of the adjustable leg loops!

this is a must have for any climber

I have used this harness for a while now and I really love it. The material used makes it incredibly comfortable to climb in and the gear loops are durable and have plenty of space for racking gear.

Go-to climbing Harness

The color is on point and the is easily the comfiest harness I have ever used. It's adjustable for ice climbing and really easy to use for craiging or multi-pitches.

Comfortable, low profile, functional.

I am a size 28 waist and I own the 2024 AR-395a harness in size "small". This harness is well fitting and comfortable, despite being very thin and low profile. I have sat in this harness for an hour or two while hanging from a fixed rope for photography and have remained comfortable. 4 gear loops and 4 functional sized ice clipper slots (often sacrificed on other harnesses) means it works well from sport, to trad, to ice, to alpine. The only minor issues are that the rubber gear loops get dirty easily, and that the mesh bag that the harness comes in is far to small and impossibly difficult to get the harness back inside of it.

Ultimate Versatility and Comfort – Arcteryx AR-395

As a professional guide in Argentina, I needed a high-quality harness that could handle long days, heavy gear loads, and varied terrain. The Arcteryx AR-395a checked every box — and exceeded my expectations. I purchased it specifically for the winter ice climbing courses I teach, which involve multi-pitch climbs and require carrying a significant amount of gear. The four dedicated Ice Clipper slots were one of the main reasons I chose this model. They allow me to organize multiple ice screws efficiently, and even clip my technical ice tools during transitions — an essential feature when you're climbing with students and managing safety. I first tested the harness during a rock climbing trip in San Luis, and it performed flawlessly. The Warp Strength Technology™ truly makes a difference: the pressure is evenly distributed, and I barely noticed I was wearing it, even after hours of climbing. Other standout features: Adjustable leg loops: allow a perfect fit regardless of the layering system I’m wearing. Four gear loops and rear haul loop: plenty of space for racking gear for both rock and ice objectives. Versatility: This is a true all-round harness — equally at home on granite, alpine snow, mixed lines, or bolted sport routes. Comfort: Long belays and hanging stances feel much less fatiguing than with other harnesses I’ve used in the past. If you’re a climber who moves between disciplines — sport, trad, alpine, and ice — and you need a harness that’s rugged and exceptionally comfortable, the AR-395a is hard to beat. It’s a premium investment, but absolutely worth it for serious climbers or professionals.

Solid At Everything

If I only had one harness this would be it. As a matter of fact I have a dozen and this is the one I reach for anytime I'm climbing. The only breaks it gets are gym days and some work days because I don't want to put the wear on it. This harness fits perfectly, is comfortable on long days, light enough for alpine climbing and supportive when it has to catch me. The gear loops are well laid out, gear goes on and off well and rides where I want it. I've had zero durability issues with the one I've owned for 7 years and it gets used a ton both winter and summer. Really one harness to rule them all! Tatsu was a nice color option.

Gear loops are unstable and cams move forward.

I don't like this harness. I'm running into an issue with the two front gear loops (left and right). When I rack 7–8 cams on either side, the loops tend to slide forward instead of staying in place. This causes the gear to bunch up toward the front, which is very uncomfortable while climbing, as the cams end up tangling near the front of my legs instead of staying behind me. Cole from Arc'teryx warranty told me: "The gear loop on this harness is not stationary and is designed to give the webbing more structure to hang on to your gear. They are not designed to be stationary and are not stitched in place." Will try stitching the gear loop myself for now. Too bad..

The Ideal Trad Climbing Harness

From towering walls in Yosemite to short routes in the gym, the AR-395a harness feels like the ideal harness. Large, rigid gear loops accommodate a double rack easily with room to spare, and the way the webbing is dispersed - spread out over a wide area - feels comfortable even when hanging. After hundreds of routes over three years, my harness has little to no discernible wear. This is one of those pieces of gear that, if it was lost or stolen, I would immediately re-buy without question.
