Features

  • Spherical Technology Ball-and-Socket design, powered by Mips®, helps redirect impact forces away from the brain by allowing the outer liner to rotate around the inner liner
  • It also eliminates contact with hard plastic or slip planes against the skin
  • Progressive Layeringâ„¢ features a dual-density liner designed to address high- and low-speed impacts for more comprehensive energy management
  • Structural integrity is bolstered by the shatter-resistant and translucent AURA reinforcing arch that runs throughout the helmet
  • 24 Wind Tunnel vents are maximized by the AURA reinforcement arch
  • In-mold construction fuses a tough polycarbonate outer shell with the helmet's impact-absorbing foam liner
  • The fusion process allows for better ventilation systems, making in-mold helmets lighter and cooler than traditional helmets
  • Combined with the massive vents, deep internal channeling forces air to flow over the scalp, providing remarkable cooling power
  • Revolutionary Roc Loc® 5+ Air fit system adds a new dimension to helmet performance by enhancing cooling as well as fit, comfort and stability
  • Using a patented design that suspends the helmet just slightly off the top of the skull, Roc Loc 5+ Air allows cool airflow to pass directly over your head
  • Roc Loc 5+ Air enhances the performance of vents and internal channeling that exhaust heat out of the helmet
  • Fit and feel adjustments mimic the Roc Loc 5, allowing you to easily custom tune fit tension and fore-aft tilt of the helmet in seconds using a single hand
  • Plush IONIC+ antimicrobial padding and a network of intricately engineered deep internal channeling elevate comfort
  • Helmet provides full lower hardbody coverage
  • Certification: CPSC

So comfortable!!
I just got this helmet because I needed a new one and this one was rated the best helmet by Virginia Tech. It is super comfortable and fits my head really well! I ordered a medium, which was the size of my last Giro helmet and it fits perfectly.

Giro Aries Spherical Helmet
The Aries Helmet I received was produced in September, 2022. Given that it is April, 2024, I am very disappointed in REI, to be selling this as a this year's model, at full price. The date of production of a helmet is important, given the life of a helmet is around five years. A full priced, $300.00 helmet that has already aged on the shelf is not what I expect from REI. I also called other dealers, like Performance, they are not selling 2022 helmets. What is happening at REI? I used to be able to trust them without question.

Excellent protection when you need it

I owned this helmet for a little over 9 months before crashing hard on a ride. As far as helmets go, it's stylish, lightweight and provides excellent airflow. The sunglass stowage could be better as others have mentioned, but functionally, it proved its worth where it matters most: head protection when crashing. Aside from road rash and a fractured rib, I was alright as the helmet absorbed the impact of the crash. Sunglass stowage aside (not that it's even that bad, just not as great as other helmets I've used), I'm happy enough with the Aries to purchase one again.

wanted to love it

Bought this a few months ago. Have owned many Giro road helmets over the last 20 years. This one fits a bit narrower, which is fine if I don’t wear a hat. It’s a bit too snug with a cap. It’s extremely comfy and the pads are great. The glasses storage is bad, maybe the worst I’ve ever had in a road helmet. They stick out, they bounce off the helmet, and they’re hard to quickly stow with one hand.

Comfort, at a price

The thing about the spherical helmet is that it achieves protection against torque without relying solely on bits of thin, stiff plastic -- important for those of us who cycle without hair. Also remarkably comfortable are the thin, pliable straps. Their clasp is so small though that it is difficult to operate -- I have slightly better luck with thumb and middle finger, because of the angle involved. I recommend checking this out before committing.

Excellent helmet

Terrific Feel, great air flow, very light. Runs very small. I see the other negative reviews have to do with sizing. I am typically in between M and L and could not even get the M on my head. Definitely size up with this one.

Great fit, but oh, that buckle...

This is the best fitting helmet I've had in a long time. If the straps and boa (the knob in the back) are adjusted properly, the helmet doesn't move at all on your head. It's lightweight and comfortable. BUT... the chin buckle is all but impossible to unfasten. It's very rigid. It takes all my finger strength to squeeze the buckle enough to release it. So, only 4 stars. Try the buckle before you purchase!

Giro Aries because I only have one noggin.

I got the Giro Aries to replace a four year old helmet that was showing signs of wear. It is comfortable and also relatively light. The main driver for my purchase was the excellent test results from the Virginia Tech Helmet Testing Program. This is my go to for bike helmets and the Giro Aries is very close to the top of the ratings. It has excellent ventilation which is a must here in Florida. Not inexpensive but definitely worth looking into for your next helmet.

Super comfy. Worth the money!

I bought this on sale to replace an old Specialized helmet. I wore the Giro and I did not want to take it off. It is so light and comfortable, I barely notice it. I'm glad I finally spent the money and got it. It has a high safety rating, looks good, and feels good. I got the medium, which fits me perfect. I see some reviewers complain about the buckle. I don't have a problem with it.
