I tested out Salomon Women's Ultra Glide 2 Trail-Running in size 7.5. Normally, I wear a size 8 and surprisingly the 7.5 felt very comfortable and had enough wiggle room. I tested them out in paved and dirt trails, ran up and down stairs, rain the rain with no problem. The shoe has great grip and the padding of the dole is very cushioned. I highly recommend these trail running shoes. I can’t wear them outdoors again.
These trail runners have a very minimal and light feel which I loved, and the retro look is really neat. But they run a bit big. I am normally a 7.5 in my preferred trail shoe (6.5 in regular shoes) but the 7.5 was too long for me, and not wide enough. After going about 3 miles they were rubbing my pinky toe, which for me is a sign they are too narrow even though they were too big. However, this shoe was soft and surprisingly comfortable across rock or when running on pavement, not hard like a lot of trail shoes. Grips surprisingly well, even when wet and across rock, even up onto pavement. The heel area was too thick and hit me right in the Achilles tendon. Maybe would break in but I really can’t run in them enough to find out. The lacing system: don’t like it. I have never had a problem with regular shoe laces, and in fact I like to heel lock my laces in my trail shoes. Not being able to do that along with them being big made my feet a little slidy. Can’t get the laces as tight as traditional laces because you have to tuck the end under the tighter laces at the top (see photo). It takes some work. Plus if it breaks I’m not sure what you do. Overall, these are a well made and cushy shoe but were not really for me. They could be good for a casual trail runner or someone who wants a crossover trail to road shoe.
I've been in the market for new trail runners for several month, and these Salomon's are the best I've found so far! I'm a slow, but frequent runner, primarily running on packed forest ground or gravel through large urban forests in the PNW. I ran with these shoes for two weeks with mileage varying between 2-5 miles every other day, and found that they held up decently in varying conditions (rain, heat, terrain type) and had just the right amount of cushion. I chose to knock off one star for a few reasons. First, I found them to be less grippy in the rain than I would have liked. Living in a rainy region, I need shoes that provide traction even when the ground is wet. I don't think I'll be able to use these in the rainy season, but will definitely continue to use them when conditions are dry. In wet conditions, I also found the soles got caked in mud that was more difficult to remove than I've experienced with other trail runners and may be the cause of the reduced traction. I also found the extra laces slipped from the mesh covering on steeper terrain, which proved to be a tripping hazard. That said, I overall really like these shoes! They're true to size with a large toe box (which is always a win for me) and I'm excited to test them on different terrains throughout the summer!
It has been a few years since I’ve ran trails in Salomon’s so I was excited to see what improvements have been made. Right out of the box, I like the color, the weight, and lacing system of the shoe. Easy to tuck the extra laces under the mesh tongue pocket but tricky at times to pull them out to unlock. A bit awkward but not a deal breaker since the locking ability outweighs traditional laces that can come undone mid run. Overall very comfortable with good arch support right from the start. Bravo for the Ortholite! Body of the shoe is durable and rugged to help protect against trail conditions while allowing breathability with mesh venting on the top and sides. Nice traction as well! I look forward to many miles on and off the trails with these!
Great for dry conditions, runs large I’m typically a 8.5 in running shoes. These fit fine but I think they run large. The toe box is wider than previous Salomon pairs. Very nice. May contribute to the feeling that the shoes run large. I’ve used it on packed dirt, soft trails, and mixed gravel on hilly trails between 3-6 mile runs. The shoe does really well on dry ground. I feel really stable when running downhill in these. Two of my runs were rainy and wet trails and while the shoes didn’t slip, the grip didn’t feel as strong. I tend to kick up sand/twigs into my shoe, and I’ve had to stop and take my shoe off a couple of times, but nothing a gaiter couldn’t prevent.
Sizing is off! I got size 6, where I'm always 6.5 in trail running shoes. The size 6 fit me absolute perfectly in these though. Wore these babies on my beach runs and trail running in the Eastern Sierra. Absolutely no complains and nothing but comfort! They are very lightweight and cushiony- making for a bouncy energy return. Traction was phenominal even when I was walking through sandy rocks at the beach as well as through patches of snow in the mountains. Also this was my first time using trail running shoes with a Quicklace system, and man I prefer it way more over traditional lace up. Kept the sand and debree out with a tight but not constraining fit and I never had to adjust it from the initial tightening prior to my runs. Highly recommend these, just make sure you get the proper size as I had mentioned, these run big.
I purchased 2 pairs different colors. I’m disappointed because it’s my coworker who noticed the hole and started to rip. I am not sure how they glue it but I am a salomon fan. I’m just using this for work by walking and I’m not running and floor is flat. Not happy though:(
I adore salomon trail runners, but they are not always true to size, however these are. The colors are extremely fun, and the shoes don’t require much time to break in. I wore them on a walking pad for a few days before running in them, and i don’t think that was necessary. They hold up great in slippery/ wet conditions, and provide great traction. I have relatively high arches and these are plenty supportive. If you have wide feet, these would not work great for you. I have pretty standard width feet, and these feel like they are a touch narrow, but not detrimental.
These shoes are fantastic! I have high arches and the support is great. I am just getting over an ankle injury so I have not been on any rocky trails; mostly packed dirt, gravel and concrete - my ankle felt fine on all of these. I also love the laces, not stopping to tie a shoe is now a must have for me. Highly recommend these shoes, definitely worth the price.
I might have to look for a new trail running shoe company. I always go Salomon so the poor craftsmanship of this shoe surprised me. After my second trail run in these the seams attached to the tongue of the shoe (on both left and right shoes) started to fall apart. The shoe felt good on the trail. Grippy and a little wider than all of my past Salomons. Besides the quality being significantly cheaper than all of my past Salomon shoes it was I enjoyed running on them. They were light and grippy. One other thing is the flap on the tongue to hold the quicklace was loose and wouldn't keep it in place since I had to tighten the wider shoe, so that was a little annoying too. I was going to wear them for a trail race next month and will definitely not be able to.
