Well built, but gets funky
Good small pack. Top compartment will fit a tube and tire lever for unexpected flats on the trail. No room for a pump, though, unless you put it inside the bladder storage area (which is what I did, along with a mini tool in the bottom). Comfortable even in hot weather, but do be warned that the nylon will pick up some old school stink where the straps go under your arms and you'll either need to figure out a way to keep that down or you'll need to store the pack outside.
Decent pack, but they cut corners on the bladder
It's comfortable and holds a water bladder, with a pocket +keyclip for some snacks. The pocket is not as big as a jersey pocket; my mechanical kit didn't fit inside. Overall, not remarkable but manufactured well and I expect it to last. I am 180cm (5'11") with a slim/athletic build and I had to pull the straps nearly all the way closed to get a good fit - the fit is designed for a more typically american body shape. But it's nice to know It'll fit easily over rain gear during the winter. Overall: not much to it, and it does what it says on the tin. I was, however, VERY disappointed to find I received a hose/bladder combo that does -not- include a quick disconnect on the hose. Looking at both REI's and Osprey's websites, all LT reservoir products show a quick-disconnect on the hose. I feel like they are cutting corners at the consumer's expense and this reflects poorly on Osprey.
Old Rag Rock Scramble Approved!
Perfect for a few hours on the trail! Ran/hiked with this along the Old Rag Mountain loop in Virginia a few weeks ago. Never felt encumbered and the water hit the spot.
Needs a quick disconnect valve
Unless I’m unaware, the mouthpiece to bladder is just one long tube. I don’t see any way to Remove the bladder for filling/draining without fishing the mouthpiece through the loops on the shoulder strap. Then when hanging to dry, the tube is just in the way. I have other Ospry hydration packs that have this feature. Why not on this pack?
Not as light as CamelBak but much more comfortable
This is one of the best packs from Ospray! It is a pack well suited for road bike, long paddling, day hikes when you do not need gear, or for people in your party that do not carry stuff. This is the men version, but it's the same design as the women version. The colors are different. Not sure about the size as I have not measured them, but they are close. We've got the men version for both women and men to wear as we loved the Green Creek color combination the best. It is actually a dark green that looks black in some light or when wet. The orange contrast looks great! It fits well both genders in the family. The weight with the blader is a bit over 1 lbs, so heavier than the CamelBak Rogue Light 7, but the difference is not much. Katari comes with a 2.5L while Rogue with 2.0L blader. The 2.5 litter makes it better suited for summer hiking or long bike tours than the Rogue. Where this pack is the best is the back and shoulder straps. Excelent design for excelent fit and comfort. As usually Osprey delivers on these! The straps are clever design of mesh and padding with small ridges for ventilation, contoured for the body, with height adjustable chest strap. You can also remove the strap if you want it lighter or it is not your thing. You can still keep the magnet hose holder even if you remove the strap. You can also reverse the strap to have the magnet on the right shoulder, but it is not really designed that way due to built-in angles. It still works though. We like the small, zippered pocket that can fit various items including a portable JBL waterproof speaker with some room to spare. There is a key hook in there to. The mesh pockets are staying put and not flap around too much on the bike. Time will tell if they stay like that with use. On the not-so-great side is the fact that moving the hose on the right shoulder doesn't work as well as the default left shoulder. The blader closing is not a robust one. I know there are people that love the rolling closure and people that love the screw cap closure. I owned both over the past 25+ years from different manufacturers. Both have issues, but in general I found the screw cap more robust and longer lived. The rolling one is more sensitive to debris caught in the roll, and more fragile over the years of handling. I would also like the hose to be easily detachable for easy cleaning. I used many different types of valves over the years and found the CamelBak the simplest and easiest to keep clean even if not as durable, but it is easy to replace. We'll see how this one performs. The good thing is that I can mix and match bladers and packs between the many we have so if the current blader gives me trouble I can switch to a different one.
Good size and functional
This is the perfect size for me to carry 2-4 WATER BOTTLES. I used the bladder insert for the first time and the water, which went in cold, straight from the refrigerator, was warm within 30 minutes. Also, I was surprised at the lack of instructions for cleaning or best practice for use. ie. Can you add water to the bladder and freeze it? The instructions for adjusting the length of the tube felt very daunting. I just left the tube at full length and shoved the excess back into the backpack. Worked out just fine.
Nice for long rides
I really love these cyclist back pack, they are light and comfortable. I usually use them when riding between Los Angeles and San Diego. Additionally there room for extra items, like snacks and first aide stuff.
Had a larger older osprey
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had a larger older osprey pack and loved it. Got this new Katari for gravel racing and wanted just a water pack. Was worried about only arm and chest straps but after me first race it didn’t bother me at all. Great pack would recommend
Unpleasant chemical/plastic taste
Not a bad product, but can't really deal with the chemical/plastic taste. Have decided to go with a much more expensive one from Source Tactical that has no taste whatsoever.
Purchased for a family member
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased for a family member who uses during work. He loves the low profile and that it keep water cold for a while when filled with ice.
