Favorite hiking books for Oregon
I have been a fan of William (Bill) Sullivan's books for decades. My dad had his 1st addition of the green Central Oregon book on his shelf when I was a kid. When I began hiking more in college, Bill's books were the only real choice for Oregon hikes. I love his detailed descriptions of the hikes, directions to the trail head, and where the best view points are. The hikes are well organized by geographical areas. His hand drawn maps for each hike give me more details than some of the modern digital or classic contour maps. There are more than 100 hikes in this too - the back of the book has details for less popular or off the beaten path trails. The only reason I ended up getting this book (again) is because I gave my previous version to a friend that needed some hiking inspiration. My only complaint - I'm not a fan of the fonts in the newest addition. Stick with the classics, Bill.
Favorite Hiking Book for the Northwest!
I have used Sullivan's hiking books for years. Maps, hike directions, & description are excellent. They layout is appreciated; I can simply put the book on my copier and make a handy, pocket size copy of the hike information.
