Overall, a great reservoir option!

Things I liked: The size - 2L is a nice, versatile volume for day hikes as well as backpacking. The handle/screw cap combo makes it very easy to fill and seems to be pretty sturdy. The magnetic connector piece is on the reservoir tube rather than the mouthpiece (as I've had with other reservoirs), making the placement more adjustable to suit your specific preference. The "On/Off" switch on the mouthpiece helps to minimize spills/leaks. There was no plastic-y taste to my water - this is a BIG pro for me, as I've had this problem with many other reservoirs. It was easy to take apart for cleaning purposes. Room for improvement: The reservoir tube is a little bit of an awkward length, so I had trouble figuring out the best placement for the magnets for the mouthpiece. The "On/ Off" switch on the mouthpiece was a little difficult to move, especially when exhausted from hiking - but this may ease up with further use. The extra plastic on the handle adds slightly to the weight of the reservoir - but seems pretty negligible compared to other bladders of the same volume. All-in all, I had difficulty coming up with any "cons" for this reservoir and would certainly recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a new hydration bladder!

Reliable, But ... Hose Has Plastic Taste
Anonymous
This water reservoir is reliable. Gregory fixed (finally) the shut-off valve, which is now much easier to use. Also, the bite valve has much better flow than the previous Hydro 3D models. However, the hose of this reservoir contributes a nasty plastic flavor to the water. It's necessary to draw off about two mouthfuls of water and spit it out to rid oneself of the nasty chemical taste. The main reservoir is fine. Gregory needs to find a different material for the hose that won't add a chemical flavor to the water in the hose.

Solid 2L Water Reservoir with great handle!

Very nice 2L bladder, with high quality materials, standard design features and a few nice details (especially the handle)! Only a couple shortcomings, most of which are hard to avoid in this sort of bladder. * Materials are good quality and are nice to touch and use. * The screw cap is easy to open, closes securely, and is a good width for filling up. * The top of the cap/handle has a space to connect to a hook and feels sturdy, but you'll need a clip or carabiner if your pack only has a loop attachment. * I LOVE the handle that is built into the cap, which makes it very easy to hold while opening/closing and filling - no cramped wrist or accidental spills with this design. * Volume markers at 1L and 2L (and a bit of room left still beyond 2L), make it easier to fill only what you want and track how much you've drank or have left. There's also room to fill it a little but past 2L. * It has a fairly standard bite valve which works well and a secure open/close toggle to avoid unwanted leaks when not in use. * The hose is on the shorter side compared to other bladder designs I have used, which I mostly liked (no annoying hose flapping around while I hiked) but could see being an issue with certain pack configurations. * Lastly, as with many bladders, there does not seem to be an easy way to empty and dry it for storage between uses.

Well Designed Hydration Reservoir!

I've used this Gregory Hydration Reservoir (2L) for a few longer runs. Most recently, I used it for an adventure trail race. It does work well, and I'm satisfied with it. First of all, I like the wide mouth. It's easy to fill and even put ice in. I also like the bite valve. It doesn't require a ton of sucking to get water. Finally, the magnetic tube attachment is lovely. It's a little clip that you can put on any running vest or backpack strap. The tube then firmly clicks to the magnet, attaching it to your backpack or running vest. That's a great idea! The only negative of this bladder is that it's a bit heavier and bulkier than others since it has some extra plastic around the mouth/opening.

Middle of the pack reservoir

The Gregory reservoir is solidly in the middle of the pack of features. The reservoir itself is fully functional, it doesn't have any leeching plastic taste with water after a day of hiking, and it's light and doesn't leak all over your back. Those are the bare minimums I'd consider for any reservoir. Pros: the handle and large bottle-style opening makes it easy to fill with one hand; the bite valve has an on/off switch that both works and is easy to flip with one hand; the internal baffles keep it from sloshing too much side to side as you move about; it dries pretty quickly with the large opening; the hanging loop is quite large, enough to hold with your finger or any sort of attachment system on a pack; the magnetic buckle keeps it securely attached at the sternum strap as you bounce down the trail, even under trail running conditions. Cons: the angled outlet hose means that you only have the option to route it up over your right shoulder with it in a pack so if you prefer it on the left side you'll likely want to look elsewhere or have the hose kink around to spit out the left side of your pack; there is no quick-disconnect valve meaning that if you need to refill it on your journey, you also need to push the bite valve back through the pack opening so you can pull the bladder out to refill. The first con is more of a personal gripe for me, I prefer it routed on the left side of my pack. The second one is an annoyance for those all-day hikes that have you refilling two or three times.

Easy to fill. Not sure how to dry

This is the first hydration reservoir I’ve used with a cap. It’s definitely easier to fill one-handed, with the harder surface of the cap connection. I took the reservoir on a trip to Iceland and appreciated the 2L capacity on our longer hikes. It fit just in our backpack’s hydration pocket as others we’ve used. I had no issues with smell or the material affecting the taste of the straight-from-the-source Icelandic spring water. Washing the thing is a pain. We don’t have hangers designed for this type of opening, and haven’t figured out a way to keep the bag open to effectively dry after washing.

Thick and Durable

I’ve used several bladders and I just love the Gregory bladder. This was bought for my wife. I actually have the previous version for myself. The bit valve changed from my model and both are fine. My wife like the new valve a little more because the open close valve is easier to operate. Very easy to clean and the build it hanger works awesome with my Gregory pack and with an Osprey I own! Thick and durable!

Best I’ve had yet

I used this while hiking and biking in Door County, WI. Overall, I feel like this is probably the best designed hydration reservoir I’ve ever used. In particular, the handle is especially helpful for filling - it makes it far less awkward and definitely reduces spilling. The mouthpiece is also well designed and did not leak. I only had two minor issues while using it. First, the water acquired a plastic aftertaste (although I’ve never had one where this wasn’t an issue). Secondly, the narrow opening makes cleaning more challenging. Overall, these are minor issues and if possible, I’d give a 4.5/5.

Good reservoir for biking/day hikes

I actually really like this reservoir! I tend to be an Osprey girlie but wanted to try this out. It's perfect as a secondary pack for my Osprey 1.5 L bag for biking. The speed clip is a nice touch, and I actually really like the red "handle" - it makes it very easy to hold. The cap is a little bulky, though, and it's easy to accidentally not close it all the way (tipped cap - see water spilling in photo) - but still, that is user error. I LOVE that they give you a magnet clip - my bag already has one built in, but now I can put this in another bag that doesn't, because it gives you both sides of the magnet. That's a huge plus for me, and for anyone who has an older pack that doesn't have a magnet.

A positive addition to my day hikes

After 4 weekend warrior trips with the Gregory Hydro Hydration reservoir in my Osprey Stratos 24 daypack, this addition to my hikes has already earned its keep and the right to come along for the next years (and years) of hikes. I do not have a lot of experience with competitors' reservoirs but I can easily spot the key to why this reservoir performs so well-- the membrane is quite thin and very responsive to fill-ups and draw-downs. Getting water into the reservoir is incredibly easy and even the lightest application of suction draws water from the reservoir-- a quality this old, old hiker appreciates after being winded by a steep uphill section of trail. The thinness of the membrane does, however, make me nervous. Although I have not tested the strength of the membrane material, I worry about placing anything in my pack with a sharp-ish corner when the reservoir is anything more than half full-- the membrane is so thin and flexible, puncturing or even scoring the reservoir seems like a real possibility. Oh... and having it shipped in the same sore of flexible package that sellers use for socks and sweaters? My Gregory arrived in my mailbox doubled over and driven deep... I'd recommend REI consider shipping this reservoir in a box.

Solid product, but some features don't work for me

I'm not used to wide mouth bladders, and I had a hard time filling this up. It feels like it wants to lay down flat in order to be filled, but then you can't get 2L in. With time and practice I might find a better solution, but so far while using it I have not found the best way. This also makes it difficult to use with my water filter - I felt like having another person, or an extra hand, or some way to hang this near the water would make this much easier. It does not feel set up to be useful with a water filter by one person. I'm also not a fan of the stiff hose. With the stiff hose I felt the mouthpiece ended up much further down my body than I would like - and meant I needed to be more aware of where I put my backpack down because otherwise the bite valve would end up in the dirt/sand. It didn't seem to be willing to stay pushed into my pack, because it was stiffer. I think a more flexible hose would be beneficial for me personally. The material seems good quality and like it can hold up under a beating. I used it in my hiking/light backpacking backpack and it fit in nicely - the fit itself was nicer than the other bladder I use because this is wider overall so it takes up more space across the back which is more comfortable. I also liked the open/close on the bite valve - it is a little stiff at first, which made it more difficult to do one handed while hiking like I like, but by the end of the hike it was more malleable - so if you get it, you should work it around a bit to make it easier to maneuver - didn't feel like it was going to get loose and fall off, just that it needed some time to be more flexible. If you like wide mouth bladders and are used to them, I think this would be a solid pick. For me, I felt the learning curve in developing a system that worked for me with this bladder might not be worth it.
