Life saver! Best product for backpacking!
Really good reservoir when hiking over distances to stay hydrated! Easy grip handle and screw-top lid makes filling a breeze. Nice narrow design allows it to fit into smaller backpacks. The hanger allows it to be placed on a limb in camp after the hike for portability. The parts also quickly disconnect for refilling or cleaning. Really user friendly and a good rate of water flow that makes it easy to drink and use while hiking, biking, and exploring.
Great 2L reservoir with some improved features!
I used the hydration reservoir on a few outings this summer, a couple of day hikes along the Little Lehigh and a 3 whitetail scouting trips. This reservoir has some great features that my current reservoirs do not that I really like: the cap is easy removed and replace, the handle is an awesome addition makes it extremely convenient to fill from a faucet, the quick connect fitting allow it to be filled directly from the filter, I much prefer the bite valve being angled instead of straight with the hose, the hanger and way the reservoir is designed to stay open when hung definitely aids in drying, the hose loop is a plus in keeping the hose secure and helps in getting it into your pack easily, and the size is perfect for smaller day packs. I would like to have the entire length of hose removable at a quick connect at the bottom of the reservoir for ease of cleaning and drying, I'll continue to store my reservoirs in the freezer to ward off any mold. Gregory should consider including 3 sternum strap magnetic clips to eliminate have to transfer from one pack to another.
3D Hydro 3L Reservoir
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love using the hydro to go walking come in very handy. 3D quick dry, hanger, speed clip, anatomical fit, dry lock magnetic bite/valve and in line disconnect .It's 3l and weight 7oz, 17.25in height, width 7in, 3in depth and BPA and PVC FREE. I wash it with light dish soap to cleaner it and I hang it up with the hanger and it dry really quick.
Bells and whistles you didn't think you needed
Coming from a pretty basic reservoir, this has many features that make life a lot easier. The bite valve has an integrated shutoff valve, which prevents accidental leaks if the valve gets wedged somewhere. The magnet is adjustable up and down the tube, which I think is an improvement over building it into the bite valve. The two best features are the handle and the internal baffle; the handle makes the bag really easy to fill one-handed. The internal baffle holds the walls of the reservoir apart which helps with filling the thing and helps with drying. There's a nice hook on the bottom so you can easily hang it upside down to dry My biggest issue is cleaning the bladder; compared to the slider-style closure, there are more places for water and residue to be trapped. I don't think this is a big problem if you clean it after every time you use it and if you never fill it with anything but water, but its hard to beat being able to reach into the reservoir and wipe the inside down. I've just been rinsing it with warm soapy water. There's a ton of features I didn't realize I would need but have been great improvements over the basic hydration reservoir. The center handle in particular was a feature I did not expect I would love so much but it works really well.
I want to love it...
I have a Gregory 3D Hydro Reservoir - 3 Liters I have used on three backpacking trips in a Gregory Deva 70 Pack. It started leaking on day 4 of 6 of my last backpacking trip. Luckily, I was able to pick up some water bottles to replace the loss of my water storage and finish out my trip. The leak occurred at the rigid plastic area where the hose and hanger are located. It appears to be pulling away from the plastic of the bladder. I tried repairing it while out on the trail, but the leak completely compromised the system and I was unable to continue using it. The leak appears to be from a MFG or design defect. From what I have read, other people have had this problem in this same area, so design flaw? Hopefully the lifetime warranty covers it...

Total convert
This water bladder is impressive, super easy to fill from sink or fridge dispenser. The lid feels very secure when closing (unlike my osprey fold and clip close top bladder). I also find the bite valve much more comfortable to use and way easier to lock than the osprey style twist bite valve. I tested the fir in my larger hiking pack (I would prefer a 3l in there), my 25bl pack and my smaller 18l day pack. The bladder fit effortlessly in each. Photos are using my REI 18l ruck pack, bladder is full and plenty of room in the bag still.
Water reservoir for long-distance cyclists
I received this product the evening before my ride of the season - RAMROD (Ride Around Mt. Rainier in One Day). This is a ride over 150 miles and it took me over 11 riding hours to complete. I ride with a mini backpack so it was easy to incorporate the reservoir. It was also easy to use once I figured how to position the magnetic clip and how to bite on the mouthpiece. I usually ride with 1 water bottle with plain water and 1 with electrolyte solution. For this ride I dispensed with the plain water bottle, and having a 2 liter reservoir meant I never was in danger of running out. It was especially helpful in the warm climb up Cayuse Pass, where I filled it up with ice and water. I was concerned the 2 extra pounds would put additional load onto my forearms but this wasn't an issue. My only concern is the description and directions for use printed on the cardboard package. These are very incomplete / unclear. Especially there are no directions on how to attach the magnetic clip.to the strap of the backpack. I hope that in the future this problem can be remedied because the product itself is very useful - at least for cycling.
Details make the biggest difference!!
I loved the magnet which is something I didn’t even think about. The bag shape fits perfectly into my backpack and seems better than competing brands. The access through the screw top is so easy to fill up at home and on the trail. This will work with any bag but if you have a Gregory bag, it makes all the difference.
Hydration Station
The Gregory 3D Hydro Reservoir is a definite upgrade from my previous hydration bladder. It’s so easy to fill with the wide-mouth and handle. The locking mechanism sets my mind at ease, but I am more weary about the quick release. The button on the side can still be accidentally pressed, while loading into a pack. I like the magnetic clip, and how comfortable it feels in the pack. Overall, I’m pleased with this reservoir and hope it will last for awhile!
Full featured and robust, but not quite ideal
This reservoir was provided to me for free in exchange for my honest review. I wanted to try it out due to its headline feature- it has a bit of shape built into it, so when it hangs upside down (on the hook that is built into it) the sides of the pouch don't cling together, allowing it to dry effectively without a separate drying accessory. It's got plenty of things going for it, but it is still not my favorite reservoir. The good It feels very well built, with a material that seems likely to hold up well. It's got a big beefy handle built into the side that makes it easy to hold while filling and transporting. Also built in are a hook for drying the reservoir and an attachment point designed to integrate with Gregory packs. I found it also worked fine with an REI Flash 22 and an Osprey Talon 22. They also include a magnet attachment point, which keeps the hose attached to a pack strap. The hose has a valve midway through that can be detached while full, making it easier to snake through apertures in your pack. It's nice to have all these features built in and not need to go looking for accessories. The less good The handle, hook, beefy top attachment point, and lid all add a bit of weight and a noticeable amount of hard plastic to this reservoir. I worry that this introduces potential stress points where the flexible pouch material mates to more rigid plastic - very noticeable pinching between the handle and cap, for example, when holding the handle and screwing the cap tight. I'd prefer a lid over the bite valve to a magnet as far as included accessories go - it's no fun to set a pack down on a break and find that the bite valve now has dirt or sand all over it. Finally, the tube is routed to one side of the lid, and cannot be easily switched. If you want to route your tube in a different direction you may need to work at it a bit to make it go where you want it to go. The flagship feature All of these are small things to look out for with any reservoir. So how about the built in drying rack feature? I will say it does OK, and certainly better than other reservoirs with round screw caps. super easy to use, and the walls of the pouch stay apart as promised. While hanging upside down though, water will collect in a trap just below the cap (see photos) - and the only way to get that to dry is to reach in with a towel and wipe it out. If you are really worried about keeping your reservoir clean, I'd still recommend HydraPak's solution - which makes it simple to reach in with a towel or even turn the whole thing inside out. I also don't see an insulated tube available from Gregory, which is a nice feature both in cold and hot weather. Verdict If you have a water filtration system that relies on this particular kind of round screw cap, or if you've got a Gregory pack and want a well integrated hydration solution, this is a strong choice. If this is the first hydration reservoir you're buying, you might want to consider the particular features you want before committing - if you need insulation, for example, look elsewhere. I will probably keep this in the rotation, but imagine that I will still reach for my Hydrapak more often as its even easier to maintain.
